Creating powerful, efficient, and maintainable applications.
Recursive and Self-Referential Data Structures Combining recursive and self-referential data structures with frameworks like Accelerate, SwiftMacros, and utilizing SwiftUI hooks can offer significant benefits in terms of performance, maintainability, and expressiveness. Here is how Apple Intelligence breaks it down. Benefits: Natural Representation of Complex Data: Recursive structures, such as trees and graphs, are ideal for representing hierarchical or interconnected data, like file systems, social networks, and DOM trees. Simplified Algorithms: Many algorithms, such as traversals, sorting, and searching, are more straightforward and elegant when implemented using recursion. Dynamic Memory Management: Self-referential structures can dynamically grow and shrink, making them suitable for applications with unpredictable data sizes. Challenges: Performance Overhead: Recursive algorithms can lead to stack overflow if not properly optimized (e.g., using tail recursion). Self-referential structures can introduce memory management challenges, such as retain cycles. Accelerate Framework Benefits: High-Performance Computation: Accelerate provides optimized libraries for numerical and scientific computing, including linear algebra, FFT, and image processing. It can significantly speed up computations, especially for large datasets, by leveraging multi-core processors and GPU acceleration. Parallel Processing: Accelerate automatically parallelizes operations, making it easier to take advantage of modern hardware capabilities. Integration with Recursive Data: Matrix and Vector Operations: Use Accelerate for operations on matrices and vectors, which are common in recursive algorithms like those used in machine learning and physics simulations. FFT and Convolutions: Accelerate's FFT functions can be used in recursive algorithms for signal processing and image analysis. SwiftMacros Benefits: Code Generation and Transformation: SwiftMacros allow you to generate and transform code at compile time, enabling the creation of DSLs, boilerplate reduction, and optimization. Improved Compile-Time Checks: Macros can perform complex compile-time checks, ensuring code correctness and reducing runtime errors. Integration with Recursive Data: DSL for Data Structures: Create a DSL using SwiftMacros to define recursive data structures concisely and safely. Optimization: Use macros to generate optimized code for recursive algorithms, such as memoization or iterative transformations. SwiftUI Hooks Benefits: State Management: Hooks like @State, @Binding, and @Effect simplify state management in SwiftUI, making it easier to handle dynamic data. Side Effects: @Effect allows you to perform side effects in a declarative manner, integrating seamlessly with asynchronous operations. Reusable Logic: Custom hooks enable the reuse of stateful logic across multiple views, promoting code maintainability. Integration with Recursive Data: Dynamic Data Binding: Use SwiftUI's data binding to manage the state of recursive data structures, ensuring that UI updates reflect changes in the underlying data. Efficient Rendering: SwiftUI's diffing algorithm efficiently updates the UI only for the parts of the recursive structure that have changed, improving performance. Asynchronous Data Loading: Combine @Effect with recursive data structures to fetch and process data asynchronously, such as loading a tree structure from a remote server. Example: Combining All Components Imagine you're building an app that visualizes a hierarchical file system using a recursive tree structure. Here's how you might combine these components: Define the Recursive Data Structure: Use SwiftMacros to create a DSL for defining tree nodes. @macro struct TreeNode { var value: T var children: [TreeNode] } Optimize with Accelerate: Use Accelerate for operations like computing the size of the tree or performing transformations on node values. func computeTreeSize(_ node: TreeNode) -> Int { return node.children.reduce(1) { $0 + computeTreeSize($1) } } Manage State with SwiftUI Hooks: Use SwiftUI hooks to load and display the tree structure dynamically. struct FileSystemView: View { @State private var rootNode: TreeNode = loadTree() var body: some View { TreeView(node: rootNode) } private func loadTree() -> TreeNode<String> { // Load or generate the tree structure } } struct TreeView: View { let node: TreeNode var body: some View { List(node.children, id: \.value) { Text($0.value) TreeView(node: $0) } } } Perform Side Effects with @Effect: Use @Effect to fetch data asynchronously and update the tree structure. struct FileSystemView: View { @State private var rootNode: TreeNode = TreeNode(value: "/") @Effect private var loadTreeEffect: () -> Void = { // Fetch data from a server or database } var body: some View { TreeView(node: rootNode) .onAppear { loadTreeEffect() } } } By combining recursive data structures with Accelerate, SwiftMacros, and SwiftUI hooks, you can create powerful, efficient, and maintainable applications that handle complex data with ease.

Migrating away from SMJobBless
I have migrated my code to use SMAppService but am running into trouble deleting the old SMJobBless launchd registration using launchd remove. I am invoking this from a root shell when I detect the daemon and associated plist still exist, then also deleting those files. The remove seems to work (i.e. no errors returned) but launchd list shows the service is registered, with a status code of 28 I am using the same label for SMAppService as previously and suspect this is the reason for the problem. However, I am reluctant to change the label as there will a lot of code changes to do this. If I quit my application, disable the background job in System Settings and run sudo launchd remove in the Terminal then it is removed and my application runs as expected once the background job is re-enabled. Alternatively, a reboot seems to get things going. Any suggestions on to how I could do this more effectively welcome.

Compatibility of Xcode 26.3 Release Candidate 2 and WatchOS 26.3
I have made an app using Xcode 26.3 Release Candidate 2 for my Apple Watch that runs successfully on the simulator. Xcode comes with the IoS 26.2 and WatchOS SDK 26.2. However, when I do try to connect to my device that have IoS 26.3 and watchOS 26.3, I see a succesful connection to my iPhone but I see the the world symbol and wheel keeps trying to connect on my Apple Watch. I also tried Xcode 26.4 beta 2 with no luck. I reviewed the WatchOS Release Notes: The watchOS 26.2 SDK provides support to develop watchOS apps for Apple Watch devices running watchOS 26.3. The SDK comes bundled with Xcode 26.2, available from the Mac App Store. I also tried Xcode 26.2 but no luck. Any suggestions?

Stuck in Review since January 26th
Our app, BeeBot (app ID 6451085742) has been in review since January 26th. We've done the following: Submitted a support ticket (no answer) Requested expedited review (no response, expedited review window came and went) Called support (no help, just told us to wait) This is an just an update, not a new app submission. I've been doing iOS dev for over 10 years and I never have seen review times this long. There's been no communication from Apple. What's going on?

macOS 26.4 Beta breaks keyboard remapping for built-in MacBook keyboards – significant ecosystem impact
Since macOS 26.4 Beta 1, virtual HID devices created via DriverKit can no longer intercept key events from the built-in MacBook keyboard. External keyboards still work. This is confirmed and tracked here: https://github.com/pqrs-org/Karabiner-Elements/issues/4402 One possible lead (from LLM-assisted analysis of Apple's open-source IOHIDFamily code and cross-referencing community reports): macOS 26.4 Beta may have introduced or modified a security policy referred to as com.apple.iohid.protectedDeviceAccess, which could block IOHIDDeviceOpen for the Apple Internal Keyboard connected via SPI transport (AppleHIDTransportHIDDevice). This appears related to a "GamePolicy" check in IOHIDDeviceClass.m that gates whether processes can open HID devices. This has not been independently verified and may or may not be the root cause. This has far-reaching consequences. Karabiner-Elements alone has over 21,000 GitHub stars and is used by hundreds of thousands of macOS users for keyboard customization, accessibility workflows, ergonomic setups, and multilingual input. This change completely breaks its core functionality on any MacBook. Beyond Karabiner, this affects every developer building keyboard remapping, input customization, or accessibility tooling via DriverKit virtual HID devices — including commercial applications currently in development. I'd argue that the power and flexibility of keyboard customization on macOS is a genuine competitive advantage for the platform. Developers and power users choose Macs partly because tools like this exist. Restricting this capability would be detrimental to the ecosystem and to Apple's appeal among professional users. I'd like to understand: is this an intentional security change or a regression? If intentional, is there a migration path?

Xcode 26 – Organizer does not show “App Store Connect” for watchOS standalone app (only Release Testing available)
Hello, I am trying to upload a watchOS standalone app to App Store Connect using Xcode 26.3, but Organizer does not show the “App Store Connect” upload option. It only displays: • Release Testing (Ad Hoc) • Enterprise • Debugging Project setup • Target type: watchOS App (standalone, not companion) • PRODUCT_TYPE = com.apple.product-type.application • PRODUCT_BUNDLE_PACKAGE_TYPE = APPL • WRAPPER_EXTENSION = app • SUPPORTED_PLATFORMS = watchos watchsimulator • Archive configuration: Release • Base SDK: watchOS The app does not depend on iOS. Bundle ID Originally: com.example.app.watchkitapp Recreated as: com.example.app HealthKit capability enabled in: • Developer Portal • Xcode (Signing & Capabilities) Signing • Apple Distribution certificate active • App Store provisioning profile created • Manual signing configured for Release (Apple Distribution + App Store profile) • Also tested Automatic signing • Deleted old Ad Hoc profiles • Cleared Derived Data and regenerated archive App Store Connect • App created successfully using bundle ID com.example.app • Account role: Account Holder • No pending Agreements, Tax, or Banking items Despite a valid Release archive signed with Apple Distribution, Organizer only allows Ad Hoc distribution and never shows “App Store Connect”. Is this a known issue in Xcode 26 affecting independent watchOS apps, or is there an additional configuration step required? Thank you.

App Review Pending for an Extended Period
Hello, I am reaching out regarding my latest update, which has remained in “Waiting for Review” status for an extended period. In the past, my updates have generally proceeded through review without significant delays, and I would normally be willing to wait if this were part of a broader backlog. However, based on recent experiences shared by fellow developers, it appears that this delay may not be affecting all accounts equally. For this reason, I would like to confirm whether there might be any specific issue with my submission. I have already submitted an expedited review request and contacted Developer Support, but I have not yet received any response. At this point, I would greatly appreciate confirmation on the following: Whether there are any issues blocking the review of this submission Whether any additional information is required from my side Or whether the app is simply still pending reviewer assignment I fully understand that the App Review team may be handling a high volume of submissions. If possible, I would sincerely appreciate it if someone could kindly take a look at my case. Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

Can't get USBSerialDriverKit driver loaded
I am writing a DriverKit driver for the first that uses the USBSerialDriverKit. The driver its purpose is to expose the device as serial interface (/dev/cu.tetra-pei0 or something like this). My problem: I don't see any logs from that driver in the console and I tried like 40 different approaches and checked everything. The last message I see is that the driver get successfully added to the system it is in the list of active and enabled system driver extensions but when I plug the device in none of my logs appear and it doesn't show up in ioreg. So without my driver the target device looks like this: +-o TETRA PEI interface@02120000 <class IOUSBHostDevice, id 0x10000297d, registered, matched, active, busy 0 (13 ms), retain 30> | { | "sessionID" = 268696051410 | "USBSpeed" = 3 | "UsbLinkSpeed" = 480000000 | "idProduct" = 36886 | "iManufacturer" = 1 | "bDeviceClass" = 0 | "IOPowerManagement" = {"PowerOverrideOn"=Yes,"DevicePowerState"=2,"CurrentPowerState"=2,"CapabilityFlags"=32768,"MaxPowerState"=2,"DriverPowerState"=0} | "bcdDevice" = 9238 | "bMaxPacketSize0" = 64 | "iProduct" = 2 | "iSerialNumber" = 0 | "bNumConfigurations" = 1 | "UsbDeviceSignature" = <ad0c16901624000000ff0000> | "USB Product Name" = "TETRA PEI interface" | "locationID" = 34734080 | "bDeviceSubClass" = 0 | "bcdUSB" = 512 | "USB Address" = 6 | "kUSBCurrentConfiguration" = 1 | "IOCFPlugInTypes" = {"9dc7b780-9ec0-11d4-a54f-000a27052861"="IOUSBHostFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOUSBLib.bundle"} | "UsbPowerSinkAllocation" = 500 | "bDeviceProtocol" = 0 | "USBPortType" = 0 | "IOServiceDEXTEntitlements" = (("com.apple.developer.driverkit.transport.usb")) | "USB Vendor Name" = "Motorola Solutions, Inc." | "Device Speed" = 2 | "idVendor" = 3245 | "kUSBProductString" = "TETRA PEI interface" | "kUSBAddress" = 6 | "kUSBVendorString" = "Motorola Solutions, Inc." | } | +-o AppleUSBHostCompositeDevice <class AppleUSBHostCompositeDevice, id 0x100002982, !registered, !matched, active, busy 0, retain 5> | { | "IOProbeScore" = 50000 | "CFBundleIdentifier" = "com.apple.driver.usb.AppleUSBHostCompositeDevice" | "IOProviderClass" = "IOUSBHostDevice" | "IOClass" = "AppleUSBHostCompositeDevice" | "IOPersonalityPublisher" = "com.apple.driver.usb.AppleUSBHostCompositeDevice" | "bDeviceSubClass" = 0 | "CFBundleIdentifierKernel" = "com.apple.driver.usb.AppleUSBHostCompositeDevice" | "IOMatchedAtBoot" = Yes | "IOMatchCategory" = "IODefaultMatchCategory" | "IOPrimaryDriverTerminateOptions" = Yes | "bDeviceClass" = 0 | } | +-o lghub_agent <class AppleUSBHostDeviceUserClient, id 0x100002983, !registered, !matched, active, busy 0, retain 7> | { | "IOUserClientCreator" = "pid 1438, lghub_agent" | "IOUserClientDefaultLocking" = Yes | } | +-o IOUSBHostInterface@0 <class IOUSBHostInterface, id 0x100002986, registered, matched, active, busy 0 (5 ms), retain 9> | | { | | "USBPortType" = 0 | | "IOCFPlugInTypes" = {"2d9786c6-9ef3-11d4-ad51-000a27052861"="IOUSBHostFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOUSBLib.bundle"} | | "USB Vendor Name" = "Motorola Solutions, Inc." | | "bcdDevice" = 9238 | | "USBSpeed" = 3 | | "idProduct" = 36886 | | "IOServiceDEXTEntitlements" = (("com.apple.developer.driverkit.transport.usb")) | | "bInterfaceSubClass" = 0 | | "bConfigurationValue" = 1 | | "locationID" = 34734080 | | "USB Product Name" = "TETRA PEI interface" | | "bInterfaceProtocol" = 0 | | "iInterface" = 0 | | "bAlternateSetting" = 0 | | "idVendor" = 3245 | | "bInterfaceNumber" = 0 | | "bInterfaceClass" = 255 | | "bNumEndpoints" = 2 | | } | | | +-o lghub_agent <class AppleUSBHostInterfaceUserClient, id 0x100002988, !registered, !matched, active, busy 0, retain 6> | { | "UsbUserClientBufferStatistics" = {"IOMemoryDescriptor"=0,"IOBufferMemoryDescriptor"=0,"IOSubMemoryDescriptor"=0} | "IOUserClientCreator" = "pid 1438, lghub_agent" | "UsbUserClientBufferAllocations" = {"Bytes"=0,"Descriptors"=0} | "IOUserClientDefaultLocking" = Yes | } | +-o IOUSBHostInterface@1 <class IOUSBHostInterface, id 0x100002987, registered, matched, active, busy 0 (5 ms), retain 9> | { | "USBPortType" = 0 | "IOCFPlugInTypes" = {"2d9786c6-9ef3-11d4-ad51-000a27052861"="IOUSBHostFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOUSBLib.bundle"} | "USB Vendor Name" = "Motorola Solutions, Inc." | "bcdDevice" = 9238 | "USBSpeed" = 3 | "idProduct" = 36886 | "IOServiceDEXTEntitlements" = (("com.apple.developer.driverkit.transport.usb")) | "bInterfaceSubClass" = 0 | "bConfigurationValue" = 1 | "locationID" = 34734080 | "USB Product Name" = "TETRA PEI interface" | "bInterfaceProtocol" = 0 | "iInterface" = 0 | "bAlternateSetting" = 0 | "idVendor" = 3245 | "bInterfaceNumber" = 1 | "bInterfaceClass" = 255 | "bNumEndpoints" = 2 | } | +-o lghub_agent <class AppleUSBHostInterfaceUserClient, id 0x10000298a, !registered, !matched, active, busy 0, retain 6> { "UsbUserClientBufferStatistics" = {"IOMemoryDescriptor"=0,"IOBufferMemoryDescriptor"=0,"IOSubMemoryDescriptor"=0} "IOUserClientCreator" = "pid 1438, lghub_agent" "UsbUserClientBufferAllocations" = {"Bytes"=0,"Descriptors"=0} "IOUserClientDefaultLocking" = Yes } more details in my comment.

How do I resolve the "Automatic signing cannot update bundle identifier..." error?
When I create an archive file and attempt to upload the app using the "Distribute App" button, the upload fails with the error "Automatic signing cannot update bundle identifier...". (The detailed message is below.) When creating an archive file in Xcode, I unchecked "Automatically Manage Signing" and proceeded with the archive. The message says "Font Enumeration," but other apps with the same option enabled upload successfully. Therefore, I believe the "Font Enumeration" option is not the issue. I tried creating a new provisioning file, but it still doesn't work. I deleted all DerivedData files from my Mac storage, restarted Xcode, and tried again, but it still doesn't work. This keeps happening only for certain targets (specific apps) in Xcode. Does anyone know how to fix this? Xcode is the latest version. Message: Automatic signing cannot update bundle identifier "com.xxxxxx.xxxxxx". Automatic signing cannot update your registered bundle identifier to enable Font Enumeration. Update your bundle identifier on https://developer.apple.com/account and then try again.

Management of Camera File Formats
It seems like every time an IOS update is installed, the camera app file formats get reset to defaults. This setting is not available to manage at the MDM level. Many people need the the most compatible settings for the purpose of file sharing. So, now we have nearly 1,000 devices with a complete mix of photo and video formats. And IT has wasted MANY hours converting files for people. Feature Request: Please either stop resetting the camera app file formats or allow us to manage those settings at the MDM level. Respectfully, Robert

App stuck in “Waiting for Review” for 3+ weeks (Case ID: 20000107493507)
My iOS app “TaskCal: Task Manager” (version 1.2.8) has been stuck in “Waiting for Review” for more than 3 weeks, and I’m not sure what else I can do at this point. I’d like to know if there’s anything wrong with my submission, or if there’s any other way to get more clarity from App Review. Here are the key dates (GMT+8): Jan 30, 2026 – Version 1.2.3 was approved and marked “Ready for Distribution”. Jan 31 – Feb 8, 2026 – I submitted version 1.2.8 multiple times. Several submissions were later marked as “Removed” in App Store Connect. Feb 9, 2026, 12:39 AM – I submitted version 1.2.8 again. This submission has been in “Waiting for Review” ever since. Today is Mar 3, 2026 (Taipei time) – The status is still “Waiting for Review” with no change. Because of this, I contacted Apple Developer Support multiple times through Contact Support. I only received one reply, on Feb 21, 2026, which said: Hello Alan, Thank you for reaching out to Developer Support about your app, “TaskCal: Task Manager.” I understand that you’re concerned. After reviewing your app’s submission history, I can confirm that your app is still in the “Waiting for Review” status as of February 8th 2026. To address your concern about the duration of the review, I’ve contacted the review team to bring this to their attention. At this time, there’s no further action required from your end. If the review team needs any additional information to complete the review, they’ll reach out to you directly. We appreciate your patience during this process. Your case number is 20000107493507. Stephanie Developer Support Since then, there has been no visible progress and no follow‑up messages. The App Review page still shows: Version: iOS 1.2.8 Status: Waiting for Review Case ID: 20000107493507 I completely understand that review times can vary, but: My previous version (1.2.3) was reviewed and approved normally. This is a relatively small productivity app with no major policy changes. It’s been over 3 weeks in “Waiting for Review” for this specific submission, with multiple earlier submissions of the same version being “Removed” without clear explanation in the UI. My questions: Is there anything I may have done wrong in the submission process (for example, causing multiple “Removed” submissions) that could block or delay this review? Is there any other official channel I can use to get more clarity beyond contacting Developer Support (which only confirmed that it’s “Waiting for Review”)? Has anyone here experienced a similar long “Waiting for Review” state recently, and if so, how was it resolved? I’m worried that there might be some issue with this build or with my account that I’m not seeing in App Store Connect. At the same time, I don’t want to keep canceling and re‑submitting if that could make the situation worse. Any advice from Apple or other developers who have gone through something similar would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Alan

Notarization submissions stuck "In Progress" — native macOS app with Sparkle.framework (12+ attempts)
I'm submitting a native macOS app (Swift/SwiftUI, arm64) that includes Sparkle.framework for auto-updates. All binaries are signed with a Developer ID Application certificate using --options runtime and --timestamp. I've submitted 12+ times over the past two days, both from local notarytool submit and from GitHub Actions CI. Every submission uploads successfully and returns a valid submission ID, but then stays at "In Progress" indefinitely — none have resolved to Accepted or Invalid. Two early submissions did eventually come back "Invalid" — Apple's rejection log showed the Sparkle nested binaries had ad-hoc signatures (they were being signed as individual Mach-O files instead of bundle directories). I fixed this with proper inside-out bundle signing. Since the fix, local codesign --verify --deep --strict passes cleanly, but all ~10 subsequent submissions remain stuck at "In Progress". 9UT54V24XG Would appreciate any guidance, or if someone from the notary team could check our queue. Happy to provide specific submission IDs.

Virtual Camera Shows Jittering Frames and Solid Accent Color on macOS
Hello Apple Developer Support, I’m developing a virtual camera using the CMIOExtensionDevice / CMIOExtensionStreamSource APIs on macOS. While the virtual camera appears in system settings and apps like Zoom and Google Meet, the video output exhibits the following issues: Jittering frames: The first frame sometimes appears correctly, but subsequent frames flicker or jitter. Solid color fill: Eventually, the camera feed fills entirely with a solid accent color (e.g., blue), rather than the intended video content. Console logs: Repeated messages appear in Console.app: Invalid display 0x00000000 Setup details: The virtual camera is created using CMIOExtensionDevice and CMIOExtensionStream. Video frames are rendered from NSImage/CGImage using CGContext and copied into CVPixelBuffers. Frame delivery is controlled by a DispatchSourceTimer at 60 FPS. macOS version: 26.2 Xcode version: 26.1 Observations: The Invalid display 0x00000000 logs suggest that CGContext drawing or NSImage operations are failing in headless mode (i.e., there is no real display attached to the virtual camera). Using CIContext with .useSoftwareRenderer = true appears to mitigate some flicker, but not entirely. Questions / Requests: Is it expected that CoreMediaIO virtual cameras cannot reliably render CGImage / NSImage frames offscreen? Are there recommended APIs or approaches to render virtual camera frames fully headless to avoid display-dependent jitter? Is there any documentation or sample code from Apple showing stable video output from a virtual camera extension that does not rely on a physical display? Any guidance or examples would be greatly appreciated. This issue prevents the virtual camera from being used reliably in standard video apps. Thank you, Savvy

Understanding CMIO Extension
Hello, I am getting the following errors when building a Mac Camera Extension with web sockets. I am using URLSessionWebsocketTask as my web socket library. I built a test program for my code and in there I can see my web sockets are working properly, but when I run it from the System Extension I get the following errors. The socket opens for two - three messages then crashes. I couldnt find any documentation online for the following errors CMIOExtensionProvider.m:1975:-[CMIOExtensionProvider removeProviderContext:]_block_invoke Unregistered provider context <CMIOExtensionProviderContext: ->, don't be surprised if things go badly CMIOExtensionProviderContext.m:64:-[CMIOExtensionProviderContext initWithConnection:]_block_invoke [391] received Connection invalid``

Can a DeviceActivityReport extension pass the user’s daily Screen Time total back to the main app
Hi, I’m building an iOS self accountability app using FamilyControls and DeviceActivity. I can show the user’s real Screen Time correctly inside a DeviceActivityReport extension on a real device, but I want to use that same daily total inside the main app for today’s log and leaderboard. What I’m stuck on is getting that value back into the app. I tried App Groups, shared UserDefaults, a shared file in the app group container, and CFPreferences, but the report still only works as a display and the main app never receives the total. Is there any Apple supported way to use the daily Screen Time total from a DeviceActivityReport extension inside the containing app, or is this intentionally display only? Thanks.

app crashes
the iOS app store package's entitlements file has an issue. After updating to a new version to fix the entitlements file, the app still crashes upon opening but can function normally after a restart. What methods can the app side use to resolve this entitlements file issue without requiring a restart to open and use the app properly?

Thanks.

the iOS app store package's entitlements file has an issue. After updating to a new version to fix the entitlements file, the app still crashes upon opening but can function normally after a restart. What methods can the app side use to resolve this entitlements file issue without requiring a restart to open and use the app properly?
