IOBluetoothHandsFreeDevice API confusion
I wonder how one would use IOBluetoothHandsFree APIs to interact from macOS app with a bluetooth device that implements bluetooth hands free profile. My current observation is as follows: IOBluetoothDevice object representing the device correctly identifies it as a hands free device, i.e.: there is a proper record in services array, that matches the kBluetoothSDPUUID16ServiceClassHandsFree uuid, the IOBluetoothDevice handsFreeDevice property returns 1 Attempt to create IOBluetoothHandsFreeDevice using IOBluetoothDevice as described above (i.e. [[IOBluetoothHandsFreeDevice alloc] initWithDevice: myIOBluetoothDeviceThatHasHandsFreeDevicePropertySetTo1 delegate: self]) results in the following output in debugger console: SRS-XB20 is not a hands free device but trying anyways. Subsequent call to connect on an object constructed as above results in the following stream of messages: API MISUSE: <CBClassicPeer: 0x1442447b0 6D801974-5457-9ECE-0A9B-8343EC4F60AA, SRS-XB20, connected, Paired, b8:d5:0b:03:62:70, devType: 19, PID: 0x1582, VID: 0x0039> Invalid RFCOMM CID -[IOBluetoothRFCOMMChannel setupRFCOMMChannelForDevice] No channel <IOBluetoothRFCOMMChannel: 0x600003e5de00 SRS-XB20, b8-d5-0b-03-62-70, CID: 0, UUID: 110F > AddInstanceForFactory: No factory registered for id <CFUUID 0x600000b5e3e0> F8BB1C28-BAE8-11D6-9C31-00039315CD46 -[IOBluetoothRFCOMMChannel setupRFCOMMChannelForDevice] No channel <IOBluetoothRFCOMMChannel: 0x600003e5de00 SRS-XB20, b8-d5-0b-03-62-70, CID: 0, UUID: 110F > API MISUSE: <CBClassicPeer: 0x1442447b0 6D801974-5457-9ECE-0A9B-8343EC4F60AA, SRS-XB20, connected, Paired, b8:d5:0b:03:62:70, devType: 19, PID: 0x1582, VID: 0x0039> Invalid RFCOMM CID Note that this device's handsFreeServiceRecord looks as follows: ServiceName: Hands-free unit RFCOMM ChannelID: 1 Attributes: { 0 = "uint32(65539)"; 256 = "string(Hands-free unit)"; 9 = "{ { uuid32(00 00 11 1e), uint32(262) } }"; 785 = "uint32(63)"; 1 = "uuid32(00 00 11 1e)"; 6 = "{ uint32(25966), uint32(106), uint32(256) }"; 4 = "{ { uuid32(00 00 01 00) }, { uuid32(00 00 00 03), uint32(1) } }"; } and explicit attempt to open RFCOMM channel no 1 ends like this: WARNING: Unknown error: 911 Failed to open RFCOMM channel -[IOBluetoothRFCOMMChannel setupRFCOMMChannelForDevice] No channel <IOBluetoothRFCOMMChannel: 0x6000002036c0 SRS-XB20, b8-d5-0b-03-62-70, CID: 1, UUID: 111E > AddInstanceForFactory: No factory registered for id <CFUUID 0x600003719260> F8BB1C28-BAE8-11D6-9C31-00039315CD46 -[IOBluetoothRFCOMMChannel waitforChanneOpen] CID:1 - timed out waiting to open -[IOBluetoothDevice openRFCOMMChannelSync:withChannelID:delegate:] CID:1 error -536870212 call returned: -536870212

crhold()/crfree()
When I have to pull in hundreds of commits from upstream, I like to try to make sure things still compile - frequently, to try to limit how far I need to go to back fix things. One issue is missing symbols in the kext, since you won't know until you try to load the kext. And loading the kext each commit is not realistic. So I went and made up a call to something that does not exist, in my case, strqcmp(). I could not get the various tools like kmutil libraries --all-symbols to print out that this function was going to fail, so I wrote a little script (thanks ChatGPT); ./scripts/kpi_check.py --arch arm64e -k module/os/macos/zfs.kext/ First missing symbols: _crfree _crhold _strqcmp Hurrah. But sadly, my brain was then curious as to why crhold() and crfree() work. Worked for years. Only dtrace calls them in XNU sources but otherwise not mentioned there, not listed in my frameworks, nm is not seeing it. Somewhat of a rabbit hole. I don't even need to know, it does work after all. I should just let it go right? and yet... how does it work? My best guess is a symbols.alias pointing it to kauth_cred_ref() somewhere? Maybe? Anyway, pretty low priority but it's an itch...

Disambiguation for .system.search AppIntent
I'd like to display a list of items to disambiguate for a fulltext search intent. Using the Apple AppIntentsSampleApp, I added TrailSearch.swift: import AppIntents @AssistantIntent(schema: .system.search) struct TrailSearch: AppIntent { static let title: LocalizedStringResource = "Search Trail" static let description = IntentDescription("Search trail by name.", categoryName: "Discover", resultValueName: "Trail") @Parameter(title: "Trail") var criteria: StringSearchCriteria func perform() async throws -> some IntentResult & ReturnsValue<TrailEntity> { if criteria.term.isEmpty { throw $criteria.needsValueError(IntentDialog("need value")) } let trails = TrailDataManager.shared.trails { trail in trail.name.contains(criteria.term) } if trails.count > 1 { throw $criteria.needsDisambiguationError(among: trails.map { StringSearchCriteria(term: $0.name) }) } else if let firstTrail = trails.first { return .result(value: TrailEntity(trail: firstTrail)) } throw $criteria.needsValueError(IntentDialog("Nothing found")) } } Now when I type "trail" which matches several trails and thus lets us enter the disambiguation code path, the Shortcut app just displays the dialog title but no disambiguation items to pick from. Is this by design or a bug? (filed as FB17412220)

Shortcuts Services doesn't work properly in Books & iMessages
The built-in Books and iMessages on the latest macOS can not handle Shortcuts properly. If Books (no matter the Home scheme or the reading scheme) or iMessages is the current focused application, Shortcuts doesn't work. Once I move out and focus app turns to Finder or any other app, Shortcuts works properly. An exception is that when I pin the shortcut in the Menu Bar, the Menu Bar one works, while the one in the application's menu doesn't work. I have no idea why this would happen. Could it be part of privilege control or something?

Trouble implementing search via Siri
Hi, we're having trouble implementing search through Siri voice commands. We already did it successfully for audio playback using INPlayMediaIntentHandling. For search, none of the available ways works. Both INSearchForMediaIntentHandling and ShowInAppSearchResultsIntent never open the App in the first place. We tried various commands, but e.g. "Search for " sometimes opens the Apple Music app and sometimes shows a Google search widget. Our app is never taken into consideration for providing any results. We implemented all steps mentioned in WWDC videos and documentation (e.g. https://developer.apple.com/documentation/appintents/making-in-app-search-actions-available-to-siri-and-apple-intelligence), but nothing seems to work. We're mainly testing on iOS 18 currently. Any idea why this is not working?

How to determine TX region when using Declared Age Range (SB2420 compliance)
Hello, I’m working on implementing SB2420 compliance using the Declared Age Range framework. While referring to the documentation at https://developer.apple.com/documentation/declaredagerange, I couldn’t find details on how the TX region (transaction region or territory) is determined when using Declared Age Range. Specifically, I’d like to confirm the following points: How does the system determine the TX region when the user’s declared age range is retrieved? Is it based on the App Store region, the device locale, or the user’s Apple ID country? If the app’s backend needs to verify or log the TX region, is there a way to obtain or infer it from the API response or receipt data? Is there any difference in TX region determination between Sandbox and Production environments? If anyone has experience implementing Declared Age Range (SB2420) and handling region determination, I’d appreciate your insights or best practices. Thank you.

PSA: Call Screening breaks in a multitude of ways; no missed call notifications or badges; not lighting up screen; not visible when using focus;
Call Screening has serious issues right now leading to missing calls from genuine callers because the system does not acknowledge them with missed call notifications or badges in a lot of cases. I'm posting this in the hope of catching an engineer who can bring this to the attention of the teams working on this. Filed as FB20678829 — I ran the following tests with iOS 26.1 beta 3, but the issues have been occurring on iOS 26.0 as well. I used an iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac for this. The iPhone has Call Screening enabled with the option „Ask Reason for Calling“ The iPhone has call forwarding enabled to all devices. Test 1: Active Focus Turn on a focus like Do not Disturb on all devices. Lock all devices. Make a phone call to the iPhone with an unknown number. Behavior: iPhone: displays Call Screening UI on the Lock Screen, but it will not light up the screen. You don’t know Call Screening is happening unless you activate the display just in that moment on devices without Always On Display. Watch: does nothing. Mac: does nothing. iPad: displays Call Screening UI on the Lock Screen, but it will not light up the screen. You don’t know Call Screening is happening unless you activate the display just in that moment. In this test the caller does not answer any of the Call Screening questions and just hangs up. The result is that only the Mac displays a missed call notification. iPhone, iPad, and Watch do not acknowledge the missed call (no phone app icon badge, no notification, no badge inside the Phone app itself), you can only see the call inside the Calls list when manually looking for it. Test 2: No Focus Turn off any focus like Do not Disturb on all devices. Mac: displays Call Screening UI when unlocked. iPad: displays Call Screening UI on the Lock Screen, but it will not light up the screen. The only improvement here is that the Mac now shows the Call Screening UI. Test 3: Caller answers Call Screening questions An active focus does not matter. Lock all devices. Make a phone call to the iPhone with an unknown number. Once the caller answered the Call Screening questions, the following happens: All devices ring like expected When the caller hangs up or I don’t answer: Mac: Shows Missed Call notification without details iPhone: Shows Missed Call notification with transcript of Call Screening (also badges phone app icon) iPad: does nothing. Watch: Shows the mirrored iPhone notification. Things to note: When turning off call forwarding on iPhone to other Apple devices like iPad and Mac, the phone app icon is always badged for missed calls when Call Screening was active, but no notification is displayed regardless.

Question about Shield customization limits in ManagedSettingsUI (videos, text length, personalization)
Hi everyone, I’m currently developing a parental control app that uses the Screen Time API (FamilyControls, ManagedSettings, DeviceActivity). I have a question regarding the customization limits of the Shield UI in ManagedSettingsUI. From the documentation, I understand that we can customize the ShieldConfiguration (background color, blur style, icon, title, subtitle, button labels, etc.). However, I’d like to clarify a few points before finalizing the design: 1. Is it allowed (or technically possible) to display custom media content, such as videos, animations, or interactive elements, inside a custom Shield? 2. Are there limitations on the text length for the title and subtitle fields (e.g. maximum number of characters, multiline support, truncation behavior)? 3. Can the Shield be personalized per user (for example, showing a different title or color scheme based on user preferences or device state)? 4. Are there App Store Review restrictions or UI guidelines that define what a Shield should or should not contain (for instance, whether the Shield can resemble a mini-app experience)? I want to ensure that the implementation fully complies with Apple’s technical and design expectations before submission. Thanks in advance for any official clarification or best practices on how far we can go with Shield customization! Best regards, Ferdinand

Universal Links not working with subdomains without AASA on root domain
Hi all, I'm trying to set up universal links for my app but it's not working. What I want: cogover.com → Safari (website) - NOT my app *.cogover.com (any subdomain like abc.cogover.com) → My app What I did: Added applinks:*.cogover.com in Xcode Put AASA files on all subdomains They work fine (checked with curl) Problem: All links still open in Safari, not my app. I do not put AASA on my root domain cogover.com because I don't want open my app with root domain. I have checked TN3155: Debugging universal links | Apple Developer Documentation but it only say about universal link works with both root domain and subdomains. Weird thing I found: I checked how Salesforce does it - their *.force.com subdomains work perfectly. But when I tried to check their setup, (https://force.com/.well-known/apple-app-site-association) doesn't seem to exist either! So how does theirs work? Even stranger - Apple's CDN has their file cached at (https://app-site-association.cdn-apple.com/a/v1/force.com) but the actual domain doesn't serve it. Can Apple's CDN have a file cached even if it's not on the website anymore? Thanks for any help!

How to get a phone into a state where it's possible to test text filtering?
I'm currently finding it impossible to get a text filtering extension to be invoked when there's an incoming text message. There isn't a problem with the app/extension because this is the same app and code that is already developed, tested, and unchanged since I last observed it working. I know if there's any history of the incoming number being "known" then the extension won't get invoked, and I used to find this no hindrance to testing previously provided that: the incoming number isn't in contacts there's no outgoing messages to that number there's no outgoing phone calls to the number. This always used to work in the past, but not anymore. However, I've ensured the incoming text's number isn't in contacts, in fact I've deleted all the contacts. I've deleted the entire phone history, incoming and outgoing, and I've also searched in messages and made sure there's no interactions with that number. There's logging in the extension so I can see its being invoked when turned on from the settings app, but its not getting invoked when there's a message. The one difference between now and when I used to have no problem with this - the phone now has iOS 18.5 on it. Its as if in iOS 18.5 there ever was any past association with a text number, its not impossible to remove that association. Has there been some known change in 18.5 that would affect this call filtering behavior and not being able to rid of the incoming message caller as being "known" to the phone? Update I completely reset the phone and then I was able to see the the message filter extension being invoked. That's not an ideal situation though. What else needs to be done beyond what I mentioned above in order to get a phone to forget about a message's number and thus get an message filtering extension to be invoked when there's a message from that number?

Presenter Overlay Not Showing When Recording a Single Window or Region with ScreenCaptureKit
Hi, I'm using ScreenCaptureKit on macOS 14+ to record a single window. I've noticed that the Presenter Overlay only appears when capturing the entire screen, but it does not appear when recording a specific window or a region. Is there a way to enable the Presenter Overlay while recording a single window or a defined region, similar to how it works with full-screen capture? Any guidance or clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

AlarmKit Sound Fade in Possibility?
I'm trying to fade in the sound used in my alarm app but currently there's no way to achieve this since the alarm sound loops and if i add a fade-in at the beginning of my audio, every time the audio loops the fadein happens.

Is it possible to share total Screen Time automatically between friends for comparison?
Hello everyone, I would like to know if there is any way for an iOS app to automatically access a user’s total Screen Time (for example, daily or weekly usage) and then share this with friends so they can compare results, like in a “Screen Time battle”? Thanks you very much for you help!

Wrong AppIntents in Shortcuts app with iOS 26
I and many of my users observed the problem that the Shortcuts app seems to confuse and swap actions of different apps from the same developer. This happens after updating to iOS 26. This breaks many Shortcuts. Deleting one of the apps or re-adding the actions sometimes seems to help. Does anybody else observe this problem, or know how to handle this?
