ChatGPT in Xcode 26 not recognizing Plus subscription

Hi all,

Has anyone else run into this issue in Xcode 26?

I’m logged into my paid ChatGPT Plus account, but the Xcode integration doesn’t seem to recognize the subscription. After a short period of use, I get the following error:

“Over daily limit. ChatGPT in Xcode will be unavailable for up to 24 hours. For higher limits, sign in with a paid ChatGPT account.”

Since I’m already signed in with a paid account, this looks like either a bug or a limitation specific to Xcode.

Is this expected behavior, or has anyone found a workaround to make Xcode properly recognize Plus accounts?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Hi! Thanks for your feedback. Do you know which version of macOS/Xcode you're currently running?

Let's try something:

Can you go to: Xcode>Settings>Intelligence>ChatGPT in Xcode

and see if your account displays ChatGPT Plus here?

If not, could you try to log out and log in again?

Thanks!

I'm getting this problem too. In settings, it's showing ChatGPT Plus, and I've tried logging off and on again as well as restarting Xcode. Still getting the error. Has anyone got around this?

Looks like it's fixed in the Beta 7 release.

Xcode 26 RC still has this issue. I also have ChatGPT Plus, but I reached the daily limit in a very short time.

I am also reaching a limit remarkably quickly with the RC, but I can still use the ChatGPT app

Same for me : quickly reached the daily limit and having ChatGPT Plus

came here to say the same thing - RC and still hitting my limit.

Having the same issue

I can also confirm that switching between different openAI workspaces (personal and business) doesn't reset the limit.

Having the same issue. Settings>Intelligence dislays that i'm logged in with GPT Plus, but still my quota ran out rather quickly.

Tried signing out and in again from within settings, but that did not help.

Same issue here. I am logged in with Plus and the daily Limit was reached in very short time. ChatGPT App works fine and is connectable to Xcode.

Same issue here. It does show that I am logged in with chat gpt plus but does not let me code pas the free daily limit.

I am seeing the same thing as well

Same issue

Hit this issue this morning.

Fixing ChatGPT Plus Quota Issues in Xcode 26

With the release of Xcode 26.0 (17A324) on macOS 26 Tahoe, Apple introduced the built-in Coding Assistant powered by large language models. Developers can connect their personal ChatGPT accounts directly inside Xcode under Settings → Intelligence.

Some users, however, are seeing an error message inside Xcode:

“Over daily limit. Sign in with a paid ChatGPT account.”

This happens even when System Settings correctly shows the user is logged in with ChatGPT Plus.

Resolving the Issue

Here’s a guide to resolving the issue.

Confirm Requirements (at this time)

  • macOS 26 Tahoe with Apple Intelligence enabled
  • Xcode 26.0 (17A324) or later
  • A valid ChatGPT Plus subscription linked to your OpenAI account

Step 1: Re-Link ChatGPT in macOS Go to System Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri → ChatGPT. Sign out. Sign back in with the ChatGPT Plus account you want to use. Verify that your Plus status displays correctly here before opening Xcode.

Step 2: Connect ChatGPT Inside Xcode Open Xcode → Settings → Intelligence. Locate “ChatGPT in Xcode.” If it shows connected, sign out and sign back in from this panel. Ensure the panel now displays your account and not the Apple-provided free tier.

Step 3: Refresh Tokens Quit Xcode. In System Settings, toggle Apple Intelligence off, then back on. Re-enable ChatGPT, sign in again, and relaunch Xcode.

Step 4: Avoid the Free Tier Cap Apple includes a free daily quota for ChatGPT usage in Xcode. If Xcode is bound to this Apple-provided pool, you’ll hit a daily cap even with Plus. Switching Xcode to use your personal ChatGPT account removes the cap.

Step 5: Eliminate Account Conflicts If you have multiple ChatGPT accounts, log out of all browser sessions before re-authenticating. Ensure that Xcode links to the correct Plus subscription.

Step 6: Update macOS and Xcode Install the latest macOS 26 and Xcode 26 point releases. Apple has issued fixes related to account linking and quota checks since the initial release.

If the Error Persists

  • Full Reset: Sign out of ChatGPT in both System Settings and Xcode, restart the Mac, then re-link in System Settings and again in Xcode.
  • API Key Workaround: In Xcode → Settings → Intelligence, choose Add a Model Provider. Use https://api.openai.com/v1 as the endpoint. Add header Authorization: Bearer and select a model such as GPT-4.1. API usage is billed separately from Plus.
  • Report to Apple: File a Feedback Assistant report under Developer Tools → Xcode → Intelligence. Include screenshots or recordings of the error message and your account status.
  • Contact OpenAI Support: If the issue is on OpenAI’s side, submit a ticket at help.openai.com.

Key Takeaways

The “daily limit” banner in Xcode 26 usually means the editor is still tied to Apple’s free daily quota instead of your Plus subscription.

The fix is to re-authenticate in both macOS and Xcode until Xcode shows your ChatGPT Plus account explicitly. If problems continue, an API key connection provides an immediate workaround.

Some research I pulled together. Hope it helps. johncarmean 09/20/2025

Same error. Can't fix it

Same problem. I've tried everything suggested. I can't fix it either.

yep still can't use my plus account either...

I have started hitting this. Really annoying, it started with forcing me to start new conversations but now has the 24h limit even when signed in to ChatGPT in system settings and Xcode. I tried the steps above which made no difference.

Xcode Version 26.0 (17A324)

Came here to say I'm also having this issue.

Xcode Version 26.0.1 (17A400)

One more, same issues. Logged in with a plus account, still getting the "over daily limit".

Now if the maintainers would bump this issue to be fixed in xcode 26.0.2 or 26.1, it would be greatly appreciated.

Same problem here. Proposed fix doesn’t work.

Same problem here 😞 I have to use the Chatgpt app but don’t have access to to the full project context

Yeah I tried all the resets too -- no luck.
