Codex integration just stopped working

Nothing changed on my end, Pro subscription still active, but Xcode 26.5 (17F42) simply does not want to log into Codex anymore. It opens the OAuth flow and after finishing and closing the window, it still says "Not Signed In".

Codex login works everywhere else, including the Codex app.

What to do?

I have the same issue. Hadn't used Codex for a while but it worked fine the last time, about 2 weeks ago. No updates I'm aware of. Today it suddenly timed out and I decided to log out. Current version: Codex 0.129.0-alpha.9 | 17F42

I worked around it by logging in with a key and login is (or seems) successful. However, it's not possible to send any request. It either says: could not open JSON stream or "usage / quota limit exceeded" (I haven't even used it).

Thanks guys for reporting this, definitely it seems something on the backend of the third party, however, I think will be important to file a bug so we can get a resolution of the issue.

Once you open the bug report, please post the FB number here for my reference.

Bug report FB22920242

Things are seriously out of whack. I can sign in to OpenAi chat, but not to the agent.

@Michaf Thanks so much for the bug number, routing it right now to the correct team so they can get to the bottom of the issue.

This may be relevant: OpenAI removed GPT-5.3 Codex from the ChatGPT plans in June. The model is now only available via the API – but it appears to be the ‘default’ model in the Codex settings for the XCode Agents. With other models such as GPT-5.4, GPT-5.4-Mini and GPT-5.5 (depending on what’s available in your GPT account), agent mode should work in a new Codex session.

BTW: Is it just me, or is there no UI to set the reasoning level for the agents?

...

Hi, I'm having the exact same problem with the exact same symptoms. Nothing changed on my end; Codex agent just suddenly stopped working last night.

Now, in Xcode 26.5, I cannot sign in to my OpenAI Pro plan with the Xcode Codex component, but I can sign in to OpenAI chat.

I have logged a bug here: 22928011

@JustinInSeattle Thanks you mean FB22928011 ? I found it and routing it to the same team. Thanks for all the information.

It just now started working for me again.

@Tewha7 Not on my side... Can you think of anything you did in-between to change any state in OpenAi's auth pipeline?

Hmm. Maybe. Yeah, I don't think I'm actually using Codex anymore. My model is set to 5.5 in Xcode's Settings.

I don't remember changing that today, but I was thinking about trying it so I must've. Apologies for the false report!

Mmm ok. Yes ChatGPT never stopped working. The problem is codex.

This is still broken. Has been at least as of May, 26, when I opened this thread:

There are at least these feedbacks pending:

This is becoming pretty annoying. @DTS Engineer can you help?

Thanks for your patience. OpenAI has informed us that a fix is required in Codex and they are working rapidly to get this in something we can deliver to you.

In the meantime, try running xcrun agent codex logout in the terminal after your next failed sign in attempt, then try again. It's possible this may work for you.

I tried this but unfortunately I'm still getting the Not Signed In state in Intelligence > Codex on the Account row.

@sdixon Thanks for the post.

Are you signed in what that happens? Or the issues is that keeps signing you out?

If you are not signed in, the agent will be in a 'Not Signed In' state on the Account row within the Intelligence settings.

Can you try to sign back in and see if makes a difference?

In Xcode, navigate to Xcode > Settings and select Intelligence in the sidebar. Under the Agents section, locate the agent you wish to sign into (e.g., OpenAI Codex). Click the More button (...) in the Account row for that agent.

Follow the instructions in the subsequent sheets and any browser windows that appear to enter your credentials and complete the sign-in process. Setting up coding intelligence.

How often does it take to sign you out of thing you are not sign in?

Thanks

Hi, Albert. Despite many attempts of trying to sign in that way, even though the pop-up window tells me I am logged in and can safely close it, nothing changes in Xcode and I am still shown as if I'm logged out.

@sdixon Thanks for the post, have you submitted a bug with the sysdiagnose so the team can take a look why your status is still logged out?

Thanks

@DTS Engineer Hi! Yep, here: FB23066171

@sdixon Thank you for that, looks like you have provided everything the team needs. Appreciate that. The bug has been routed to the correct team to take a look.

@DTS Engineer So how many bug reports di we have now on this issue? What's the threshold before things get moving? 5? 10? 100?

Codex integration is completely broken for me as well (it did work in the past though).

Every prompt fails with the message “The data couldn’t be read because it isn’t in the correct format.”

  • macOS 26.5.1
  • Only Xcode 26.5 installed (also tried on 26.6RC and did the same thing)
  • Logged out/in to codex (via ChatGPT account - NOT API Key) - No problems with login.
  • Tried all the available models (Default, 5.5, 5.4, 5.4mini)

Note: Custom codex ACP integration on Xcode 26.6RC works! (github.com/zed-industries/codex-acp)

Already submitted a bug report with sysdiagnose.

I had a codex agent update in Xcode today to 0.132.0. Made no difference, still can't login.
