Using AVAsynchronousKeyValueLoading.load() on an AVAssetTrack gives an error
I'm seeing this error while attempting to compile my VisionOS app under Xcode 26. My existing code looks like: let (naturalSize, formatDescriptions, mediaCharacteristics) = try? await videoTrack.load(.naturalSize, .formatDescriptions, .mediaCharacteristics) This is now giving a compiler error: Type of expression is ambiguous without a type annotation I don't see that anything that was changed or deprecated in the latest version. Also loading the properties individually seems to work fine i.e.: let naturalSize = try? await videoTrack.load(.naturalSize) let formatDescriptions = try? await videoTrack.load(.formatDescriptions) let mediaCharacteristics = try? await videoTrack.load(.mediaCharacteristics)

VideoMaterial Black Screen on Vision Pro Device (Works in Simulator)
VideoMaterial Black Screen on Vision Pro Device (Works in Simulator) App Overview App Name: Extn Browser Bundle ID: ai.extn.browser Purpose: A visionOS web browser that plays 360°/180° VR videos in an immersive sphere environment Development Environment & SDK Versions Component Version Xcode 26.2 Swift 6.2 visionOS Deployment Target 26.2 Swift Concurrency MainActor isolation enabled App is released in the TestFlight. Frameworks Used SwiftUI - UI framework RealityKit - 3D rendering, MeshResource, ModelEntity, VideoMaterial AVFoundation - AVPlayer, AVAudioSession WebKit - WKWebView for browser functionality Network - NWListener for local proxy server Sphere Video Mechanism The app creates an immersive 360° video experience using the following approach: // 1. Create sphere mesh (10 meter radius for immersive viewing) let mesh = MeshResource.generateSphere(radius: 10.0) // 2. Create initial transparent material var material = UnlitMaterial() material.color = .init(tint: .clear) // 3. Create entity and invert sphere (negative X scale) let sphere = ModelEntity(mesh: mesh, materials: [material]) sphere.scale = SIMD3<Float>(-1, 1, 1) // Inverts normals for inside-out viewing sphere.position = SIMD3<Float>(0, 1.5, 0) // Eye level // 4. Create AVPlayer with video URL let player = AVPlayer(url: videoURL) // 5. Configure audio session for visionOS let audioSession = AVAudioSession.sharedInstance() try audioSession.setCategory(.playback, mode: .moviePlayback, options: [.mixWithOthers]) try audioSession.setActive(true) // 6. Create VideoMaterial and apply to sphere let videoMaterial = VideoMaterial(avPlayer: player) if var modelComponent = sphere.components[ModelComponent.self] { modelComponent.materials = [videoMaterial] sphere.components.set(modelComponent) } // 7. Start playback player.play() ImmersiveSpace Configuration // browserApp.swift ImmersiveSpace(id: appModel.immersiveSpaceID) { ImmersiveView() .environment(appModel) } .immersionStyle(selection: .constant(.mixed), in: .mixed) Entitlements <!-- browser.entitlements --> <key>com.apple.security.app-sandbox</key> <true/> <key>com.apple.security.network.client</key> <true/> <key>com.apple.security.network.server</key> <true/> Info.plist Network Configuration <key>NSAppTransportSecurity</key> <dict> <key>NSAllowsArbitraryLoads</key> <true/> </dict> The Issue Behavior in Simulator: Video plays correctly on the inverted sphere surface - 360° video is visible and wraps around the user as expected. Behavior on Physical Vision Pro: The sphere displays a black screen. No video content is visible, though the sphere entity itself is present. Important: Not a DRM/Licensing Issue This issue is NOT related to Digital Rights Management (DRM) or FairPlay. I have tested with: Unlicensed raw MP4 video files (no DRM protection) Self-hosted video content with no copy protection Direct MP4 URLs from CDN without any licensing requirements The same black screen behavior occurs with all unprotected video sources, ruling out DRM as the cause. (Plain H.264 MP4, no DRM) Screen Recording: Working in Simulator The following screen recording demonstrates playing a 360° YouTube video in the immersive sphere on the visionOS Simulator: https://cdn.commenda.kr/screen-001.mov This confirms that the VideoMaterial and sphere rendering work correctly in the simulator, but the same setup shows a black screen on the physical Vision Pro device. Observations AVPlayer status reports .readyToPlay - The video appears to load successfully VideoMaterial is created without errors - No exceptions thrown Sphere entity renders - The geometry is visible (black surface) Audio session is configured - No errors during audio session setup Network requests succeed - The video URL is accessible from the device Same result with local/unprotected content - DRM is not a factor Console Logs (Device) The logging shows: Sphere created and added to scene AVPlayer created with correct URL VideoMaterial created and applied Player status transitions to .readyToPlay player.play() called successfully Rate shows 1.0 (playing) Despite all success indicators, the rendered output is black. Questions for Apple Are there known differences in VideoMaterial behavior between the visionOS Simulator and physical Vision Pro hardware? Does VideoMaterial(avPlayer:) require specific video codec/format requirements that differ on device? (The test video is a standard H.264 MP4) Is there a required Metal capability or GPU feature for VideoMaterial that may not be available in certain contexts on device? Does the immersion style (.mixed) affect VideoMaterial rendering on hardware? Are there additional entitlements required for video texture rendering in RealityKit on physical hardware? Attempted Solutions Configured AVAudioSession with .playback category Added delay before player.play() to ensure material is applied Verified sphere scale inversion (-1, 1, 1) Tested multiple video URLs (including raw, unlicensed MP4 files) Confirmed network connectivity on device Ruled out DRM/FairPlay issues by testing unprotected content Environment Details Device: Apple Vision Pro visionOS Version: 26.2 Xcode Version: 26.2 macOS Version: Darwin 25.2.0

How to get the transform of the joint in a skeleton when it is Animating
I have an entity that was created using Mixamo, and it has an animation. after the animation completes the mesh of the robot is not where the entity is positioned. I want to do something like when the animation finishes, I set the root entity's transform to the mesh's transform. There are no transformations applied to any of the children of this root of the model, which means that the transformations are applied to the skeleton due the the playing of animations. Is there a way where I can apply the final position of the root of the skeleton to the root entity to make sure to position the entity where the animation has ended just before the next animation plays?

Nearby Sharing a Volume won't work
Hi, we've developed an app for Vision Pro that utilises the GroupActivitites SDK to provide shared experiences for our users. Remote Participation works great, but we can't get nearby sharing to work. The behaviour we're observing: User 1 engages share sheet from Volume, 2nd Vision Pro is visible. User 1 starts nearby sharing Session initialisation runs for approx. 30 seconds, then fails Sometimes, the nearby participant doesn't show up at all after the initialisation has failed once. As stated in the Configure your visionOS app for sharing with people nearby article, we didn't make any changes to our implementation to support nearby sharing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, David

VisionOS 26 - threadsPerThreadgroup limit causing crash on device (but not in simulator)
Hi all, I'm running into an issue with an app that previously worked fine on device using visionOS 2.0. After updating to visionOS 26, the same code runs fine in the simulator but crashes on the device with the following error: -[MTLDebugComputeCommandEncoder _validateThreadsPerThreadgroup:]:1330: failed assertion `(threadsPerThreadgroup.width(32) * threadsPerThreadgroup.height(32) * threadsPerThreadgroup.depth(1))(1024) must be <= 832. (kernel threadgroup size limit)` Is there any documented way to check or increase the allowed threadsPerThreadgroup size on Apple Vision Pro? Or any recommended workaround for this regression? Thanks in advance!

ARKit Face Tracking works in total darkness?
I’ve seen, mainly in discussions with AIs, that ARFaceTrackingConfiguration uses the same technology as Face ID and therefore should work in complete darkness. However, I haven’t been able to achieve this. Does anyone know if this is actually true? I'm using an iPhone 16 to test, and the Face ID works well in darkness.

Any recommended content-aware compression strategy for .ktx textures in Reality Composer Pro?
In my Reality Composer Pro workflow for Vision Pro development, I’m using xcrun realitytool image to pre-compress textures into .ktx format, typically using ASTC block compression. These textures are used for cubemaps and environment assets. I’ve noticed that regardless of the image content—whether it’s a highly detailed photo or a completely black image—once compressed with the same ASTC block size (e.g., ASTC_8x8), the resulting .ktx file size is nearly identical. There appears to be no content-aware logic that adapts the compression ratio to the actual texture complexity. In contrast, Unreal Engine behaves differently: even when all cubemap faces are imported at the same resolution as DDS textures, the engine performs content-aware compression during packaging: Low-complexity images are compressed more aggressively The final packaged file size varies based on content complexity Since Reality Composer Pro requires textures to be pre-compressed as .ktx, there’s no opportunity for runtime optimization or per-image compression adjustment. Just wondering: is there any recommended way to implement content-aware compression for .ktx textures in Reality Composer Pro? Or any best practices to optimize .ktx sizes based on image complexity? Thanks!

Low-latency live streaming using APMP Wide FoV
Is it possible to achieve sub-second end-to-end latency when displaying live streaming video using APMP (Apple Projected Media Profile) with Wide FoV? APMP supports HLS playback, but my understanding is that standard HLS introduces several seconds of latency. I would like to know whether APMP (especially Wide FoV) supports Low-Latency HLS, or if there are inherent limitations that make sub-second latency impractical. If APMP is not suitable for this use case, are there any recommended alternatives within AVFoundation or related frameworks for rendering wide-FoV live video with very low latency? Thank you for any insights.

Tracking over large distances
I'm developing an AR application for the iPad pro where the primary purpose is to overlay 3D design data on top of production parts. For alignment, we are using Vuforia (model targets) which work really well locally. The further the device is moved from the point of original alignment, we are seeing quite a bit of overlay error (drift?). My primary questions are: Are there any best practices to stabilize frame-to-frame tracking when using model targets? We are noticing drift as soon as the device starts moving (the drift appears to occur specifically in the direction the device is moving). After about 15 feet of movement, we are observing about 3-6" of overlay error These use cases can be over 100 feet long. In order to reset drift, we understand we'll need multiple alignment points (model targets) along the way. Is there a standard/best practice for this? Ex: have a new alignment point every x-feet? We are using plane anchors to set our alignment. Typically we attach it to the nearest plane; however, the anchor point can be very far away (the origin of the model, which often is not near where the virtual content is). Could this be the issue? The anchor is far from the plane that we attach it too. Would moving the anchor closer to the plane we attach it too improve stability? After a few steps, the plane we originally attach too will be out of FoV anyway. Thanks in advance!

how to achieve "concave in" glass view look?
I have been trying to implement this look where a component looks "pushed in" but I could not find any resources regarding this effect. The closest I got was a combination of a RoundedRectangle and .glassBackgroundEffect(), but this makes the view look pushed out, instead of pushed in. I was wondering if this is achievable in SwiftUI level, or even in UIKit level.

Possible to detect multiple images at the same time on VisionPro?
I'm working on a project that uses imageTrackingProvider through ARKit on VisionPro, and I want to detect multiple images(about 5) and show info at the same time. However, I found that it seems only 1 image could be detected by device at one time. And the api of maximumNumberOfTrackedImages doing this seems not available for visionOS but only iOS. Anyone knows possible ways to detect multiple images at the same time on VisionPro?

Immersive environment learning material
I really love the immersive environments, but I don’t have experience with creating them. Do you have resources or tutorials you can recommend for creating these from scratch? I’ve seen the sample projects and videos, but they usually start in the middle, assuming you already have the assets created.

Sample code not working as expected: Implementing SharePlay for immersive spaces in visionOS
The following sample code project does not seem to work as expected: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/visionos/implementing-shareplay-for-immersive-spaces-in-visionos Have tried to get this project working with a client, but while we were able to see nearby users and make facetime calls, the color changing cube experience always remained a single color. Are there step-by-step instructions that Apple has used to verify this sample code so I can try to recreate this sample code's expected behavior for both nearby participants and those in a Facetime call?

Send notification to Reality Composer Pro from iOS project
I am creating an Augmented Reality iOS (Not VisionOS) app using scenes created in Reality Composer Pro. I'd like my code to send a notification to a RCP scene that plays a timeline. The RCP interface has the option to set up a behaviour for this purpose: This Forum thread https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/756978 suggests the code I need for sending a notification is: name: NSNotification.Name("RealityKit.NotificationTrigger"), object: nil, userInfo: [ "RealityKit.NotificationTrigger.Scene": scene, "RealityKit.NotificationTrigger.Identifier": "HideCharacter" ] ) but the 'scene' var needs to point to the relevant RCP scene, which is loaded within a UIViewRepresentable ARView (because even in iOS26 it seems RealityKit/RealityViews aren't quite ready for AR use) and I can't work out how to correctly access it. Examples in the link above are for working with RealityKit and VisionOS only. Code for loading the scene is as follows. How can I get the notification code above to be situated in a separate SwiftUI View and send the notification to the RCP scene? typealias UIViewType = ARView func makeUIView(context: Context) -> ARView { // Create an ARView let arView = ARView(frame: .zero) // Configure it let arConfiguration = ARWorldTrackingConfiguration() arConfiguration.planeDetection = [.horizontal] arView.session.run(arConfiguration) // Load in Reality Composer Pro scene let scene = try! Entity.load(named:"myScene)", in: realityKitContentBundle) // Create a horizontal plane anchor let anchor = AnchorEntity(.plane(.horizontal, classification: .any, minimumBounds: SIMD2<Float>(0.2, 0.2))) // Append the scene to the anchor anchor.children.append(scene) // Append the anchor to the ARView arView.scene.anchors.append(anchor) return arView } func updateUIView(_ uiView: ARView, context: Context) { } }

Displaying spatial photos and videos on web pages in Safari
The purpose is to create a simple web-based gallery of spatial photos and videos using static html files. I have successfully displayed spatial photos using the img tag and IMG.heic files. I can tap and hold the image to bring up the contextual menu and from there select View Spatial Photo. Is there any way to add a control to the image, like a link or overlay on the image itself, that a user can simply tap to show the image in 3D? And how to host a video file on a web page without going through a CDN/streaming service? Sample html would be much appreciated.

Custom Room Names Saved After Merger?
I am allowing users to go through and capture different rooms, and add a custom label to that room. Is there a way to store data about this in the captured room so that it persists into the final merge? As it is now, My users mark all their merges with custom labels, but after merging there is no way to remember which room is which in the merging process so they have to go through and manually add the labels back. For larger floor plans this is not ideal.

Building a Full Space app that enables sharing a visionOS experience with nearby users.
Hello, I am currently considering developing a Full Space app that enables a shared visionOS experience with nearby users. Intended Features A Mixed Full Space app in which dozens of 3D models are placed in the space. These 3D models may play embedded animations when tapped, be programmatically moved or rotated, or be controlled via Reality Composer Pro timelines. The app also includes audio, spatial audio, videos with audio, and videos without audio, which are rendered as VideoTextures on planes and played back in the space. Some media elements play automatically, while others are triggered by user interaction. However, it is unclear whether AVPlaybackCoordinator supports shared playback across multiple types of media, such as: audio only spatial audio video without audio video with audio I am also unsure whether there are alternative or recommended approaches for synchronizing playback in this scenario. Questions Is it technically possible to implement the experience described above using visionOS? Are there any important implementation considerations or limitations that should be taken into account? For example, when two participants experience the app simultaneously, how is the content positioned for each participant? Is the spatial placement of content shared across participants, or is it positioned relative to each participant’s viewpoint? For nearby participants, is it necessary to register a spatial Persona? My understanding is that spatial Personas are not visible for nearby users during the experience; is this correct? When experiencing SharePlay with nearby users, is it possible to share the experience without registering the other participant’s contact information? I have watched the following session, but I was unable to fully understand the feasibility of the above use case or the concrete implementation details: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2025/318/ Thank you.

Slowness in Developer Strap 2
Hi I’m using Vision Pro m5 and developer strap 2. When I connect it to my Mac, it still shows 480M… all systems are using latest firmware… Anyone knows why?

how to achieve "concave in" glass view look?

I am creating an Augmented Reality iOS (Not VisionOS) app using scenes created in Reality Composer Pro. I'd like my code to send a notification to a RCP scene that plays a timeline. The RCP interface has the option to set up a behaviour for this purpose: This Forum thread https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/756978 suggests the code I need for sending a notification is: name: NSNotification.Name("RealityKit.NotificationTrigger"), object: nil, userInfo: [ "RealityKit.NotificationTrigger.Scene": scene, "RealityKit.NotificationTrigger.Identifier": "HideCharacter" ] ) but the 'scene' var needs to point to the relevant RCP scene, which is loaded within a UIViewRepresentable ARView (because even in iOS26 it seems RealityKit/RealityViews aren't quite ready for AR use) and I can't work out how to correctly access it. Examples in the link above are for working with RealityKit and VisionOS only. Code for loading the scene is as follows. How can I get the notification code above to be situated in a separate SwiftUI View and send the notification to the RCP scene? typealias UIViewType = ARView func makeUIView(context: Context) -> ARView { // Create an ARView let arView = ARView(frame: .zero) // Configure it let arConfiguration = ARWorldTrackingConfiguration() arConfiguration.planeDetection = [.horizontal] arView.session.run(arConfiguration) // Load in Reality Composer Pro scene let scene = try! Entity.load(named:"myScene)", in: realityKitContentBundle) // Create a horizontal plane anchor let anchor = AnchorEntity(.plane(.horizontal, classification: .any, minimumBounds: SIMD2<Float>(0.2, 0.2))) // Append the scene to the anchor anchor.children.append(scene) // Append the anchor to the ARView arView.scene.anchors.append(anchor) return arView } func updateUIView(_ uiView: ARView, context: Context) { } }
