I would like to know if there is a way to disable Smart Punctuation from the webpage rather than requiring the user to do so from the settings. Adding a "inputmode=verbatim" attribute to the input HTML tags for my webpage did that for all the web browsers I tested on Windows, Ubuntu, Android, and MacOS. I tested Chrome and Firefox on all platforms, as well as Edge on Windows and Safari on Mac and iOS. So far the only time it did not disable Smart Punctuation was on Safari on iOS, but it did on MacOS.

How can i add Authorization header to a wkwebview. I checked https://developer.apple.com/documentation/foundation/nsurlrequest#1776617 which says Authorization header is a reserved http header and shouldn’t be set. I want to set it when requesting a url to the server which will be used for verification. How can i do that?
I’m a developer working on a Safari Web Extension that’s distributed via the App Store and also tested locally through Xcode. I’m running into an issue that’s affecting my ability to debug errors reported to my Sentry error logging instance from production.
The Problem
When an error is thrown in one of my extension scripts (e.g., background.js, popup.js, or content.js), the error is sent to Sentry but the captured JavaScript error stack trace replaces the file paths with the webkit-masked-url://hidden placeholder like this:
ReferenceError: Cannot access uninitialized variable.
at ? (webkit-masked-url://hidden/:14677:28)
at ? (webkit-masked-url://hidden/:16307:3)
This happens consistently across both App Store builds and local Xcode runs. It prevents me from seeing which script the error came from or resolving the actual source code lines using uploaded source maps in Sentry.
My Setup
Safari Version: 18.5 (Stable on macOS)
Distribution: App Store and local Xcode development
Extension Type: Safari Web Extension
Error Reporting: Sentry (@sentry/browser SDK)
Bundler: Webpack with inline-source-map
What I’ve Confirmed
I can see the actual source files in Safari’s Web Inspector under the Sources tab when the extension is running.
My source maps are uploaded to Sentry correctly and are associated with the matching release.
Errors from Safari are being captured by Sentry, but the file URLs are masked, so stack traces cannot be resolved against my original source.
My Question
Is this behavior (masking file URLs in stack traces with webkit-masked-url://hidden/) intentional for Safari Web Extensions?
If so, is there any supported method or workaround to allow exception stack traces to reveal the original script path (e.g., popup.js, background.js) so tools like Sentry or even console logs can point to real locations? I fully understand the privacy/security rationale behind the masking, but as the extension developer, this is making it extremely difficult to debug runtime issues in production.
I’d really appreciate any insight into:
Whether this masking is expected and permanent behavior
If there are any entitlements, debug settings, or Info.plist keys that can alter this behavior for development or for trusted/own extensions
If Apple recommends a different way to log extension errors that includes script name or source references
Thanks in advance for your help! I’m happy to share more technical details or try out suggestions.
We're using the PaymentRequestAPI, and to my surprise I see that if we open the payment dialog then don't interact with it - biometrics to approve or cancel/X button - it sits there open indefinitely.
Is there any way to tell it to only sit there for some limited time period before canceling?
I'm trying to set up a smart app banner for my app, but it doesn't appear on the website when I try to test it.
I have the meta tag on my website:
<meta name="apple-itunes-app" content="app-id=6740216045" />
When I inspect the website, I can see that the meta tag is showing up in the head, but the banner is nowhere to be found. I tried clearing website data but still no dice.
Recently, our some customers feedback that their phones can not connect to our site by safari or App, show the error of “Cannot Connect to Host -1004”,all of these problem customers has installed iOS 18.3 beta. Is there anybody meet the same problem?

Hello there,
back in the old WebKit API there was the WKDownloadDelegate to handle download actions in WebViews. I was wondering how to handle download actions within the new WebKit in SwiftUI. Is there anything to use already or are there workarounds to handle downloads?
Greetings,
Thorben
We are currently implementing the payment flow, and for handling payment details — including card entry and validation — we are utilizing a WKWebView. The webview securely loads the payment provider’s page, ensuring sensitive information such as card numbers are entered and validated directly within the web context.
I’d like to clarify that this change has not yet been released to Production. As part of a feature enhancement to our existing payment flow, we are transitioning to a new payment vendor, SnapPay.
While trying to load the SnapPay URL embedded within an iFrame in our iOS app, I observed the following error in the Xcode console. While this error may be generic, I wanted to highlight it:
825a18 - [pageProxyID=7, webPageID=8, PID=67346] WebPageProxy::didFailLoadForFrame: frameID=24, isMainFrame=0, domain=NSURLErrorDomain, code=-999
Upon investigating, we compared the headers from our existing payment URL and SnapPay's URL, and found that SnapPay includes the following Content-Security-Policy (CSP) header:
Content-Security-Policy: frame-ancestors ...
"Content-Security-Policy" value="default-src 'self'; script-src 'self' https://hcaptcha.com https://.hcaptcha.com https://code.jquery.com https://www.gstatic.com https://code.jquery.com/jquery-3.3.1.min.js https://test.lightbox.cardx.com/v1/lightbox.min.js https://www.ssa.gov/accessibility/andi/ https://c.evidon.com 'unsafe-inline' 'unsafe-eval'; style-src 'self' https://hcaptcha.com https://.hcaptcha.com https://fonts.googleapis.com/css https://stage.snappayglobal.com/Resource/ https://www.ssa.gov/accessibility/andi/andi.css 'unsafe-inline'; img-src 'self' data: https:; font-src 'self' *.googleapis.com *.gstatic.com ; connect-src 'self' https://demo1.cditechnology.com https:; form-action https://hcaptcha.com https: 'self' *.ipg-online.com secure.bluepay.com https://test.api.lightbox.cardx.com https://3ds-acs.test.modirum.com/ https://demo1.cditechnology.com/; frame-ancestors https://snappaydirect-perf.fiserv.com 'self' file: https: http; frame-src .snappayglobal.com 'self' https://hcaptcha.com https://.hcaptcha.com https: https://www.google.com .ipg-online.com secure.bluepay.com https://.cardconnect.com https://test.api.lightbox.cardx.com/ https://test.lightbox.cardx.com https://paywithcardx.com/payment/auth.cgi securepayments.cardpointe.com *.cardpointe.com https://3ds-acs.test.modirum.com/ https://www.yokohamatire.com http://uat1-txt.ad.portal.texas.gov https://uat1-txt.ad.portal.texas.gov "
After multiple working sessions with the SnapPay team, we were able to confirm that when they disable CSP or remove the frame-ancestors directive, the iFrame loads successfully within our app. However, SnapPay cannot change on their CSP.
To enable the iFrame to load in the iOS app, we added the following line of code:
webView.configuration.preferences.setValue(true, forKey: "allowFileAccessFromFileURLs").
This resolved the issue with loading the iFrame. Note: the file being loaded is a local .html file,.
Before submitting this update to the App Store, I’d like to confirm whether this usage of allowFileAccessFromFileURLs is acceptable for App Store review.
I wanted to confirm that with this change is there a security concern for WKWebview?
Safari Extension Error: “Non-persistent background content cannot listen to webRequest events.” after macOS 15.4 / Safari 18.4 Update
We’re seeing the following error in the Safari Extensions tab after updating to macOS 15.4 and Safari 18.4:
“Non-persistent background content cannot listen to webRequest events.”
This error did not appear prior to the update, and we haven’t found any official documentation stating that webRequest API is no longer supported in Safari.
In our extension (Manifest V3), we are using the webRequest.onHeadersReceived callback to intercept response headers and read updated cookies.
While the functionality itself still works as expected. we’re able to access the response headers and this error is now shown in the Extension settings page.
We are not seeing this issue in other browsers (Chrome, Firefox) using the same Manifest V3 setup.
Is there any plan to deprecate webRequest support in Manifest V3 for Safari?
We’d appreciate any clarification or guidance on how to handle this going forward.
Apple Pay fails with an "AbortError" when the dialog for the fingerprint sensor opens.
How do I find the cause of the "AbortError" which only occurs in the web integration in our production environment?
In the sandbox environment, Apple Pay works flawlessly. This concerns a web integration of Apple Pay using the Apple Pay SDK, one version before 1.2.0. The error occurs when I call the show() method on the PaymentRequest object. The Apple Pay dialog opens with the fingerprint icon, but after one second, an exclamation mark appears, and the Apple Pay dialog closes again while throwing the "AbortError".
I know that our Apple Pay integration worked for multiple customers in the production environment already. The current problem is that Apple's error message, called "AbortError," provides no indication of the cause. This could be greatly improved.
One affected customer, for example, is the one with the Merchant ID … (Is it safe to post a Merchant ID in this forum?) I can reproduce the "AbortError" issue at any time using my iPhone with iOS 16.7.8.
Hi everyone,
I'm exploring the new app icon appearance options (Clear, Dark, Tinted) for Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) on iOS26, iPadOS26, and macOS26. Currently, PWA icons don't seem to render well with these new appearances, particularly in Clear and Tinted modes, resulting in very very poor visual quality. You can hardly see anything.
Has support for these icon appearances been fully implemented for PWAs? If so, could someone point me to the relevant Apple Developer documentation or provide guidance on how to configure PWA icons to support Clear, Dark, and Tinted appearances? I've searched the Apple Developer Forums, Stack Overflow, and Reddit but haven't found clear information on this topic.A possible solution is a png file with transparent areas, but if the pattern is dark, nothing will be visible in dark mode.
Any insights or resources would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
(plz don't give up on PWA😭)

Hello,
I am studying a possible scenario.
Let's say I create an App Clip that features a WKWebView.
The WKWebView hosts a sort of webapp that uses local storage and IndexDB.
When the complete app is installed, are the data persisted so the WKWebView of the complete app finds them as it was reading them before?
Are the data transferred by the operating system to a new location but still accessed the same way by the WKWebView (Or even the location is the same because it is the WKWebView special storage)? Or are they wiped out?
Thank you in advance
Best regards
Hi,
I’m working with the SFExtensionProfileKey in my Safari Web Extension. As I understand it, this key is to get the UUID of the profile currently in use. However, it seems to be missing (no key in userInfo) when the default profile is active. Also, I haven’t found any API to get a profile’s human-readable name or list all available profiles.
Could someone clarify:
If the value of SFExtensionProfileKey is absent, can I safely assume the default profile is in use?
Is there a supported way to get a profile’s display name?
Does Safari expose an API for getting all profiles?
Thanks in advance for your insights!
I have an endpoint that generates a .ics file. From my mobile app, I open the browser (Safari) and retrieve the .ics file. In Safari, the events are displayed as expected, and I can use the "Add All" button to add them to the calendar. After clicking "Add All," I can select the desired calendar, and the events are successfully added (see screenshots 1 and 2 below).
Here’s the initial .ics file response:

Later, I updated the .ics file with new event details:

END:VEVENT
END:VCALENDAR
I updated everything according to the iCalendar documentation:
UID remained unchanged
SEQUENCE has been updated
DTSTAMP has been updated
LAST-MODIFIED has been updated
However it seems like that Safari can't handle updates on events.
In the preview we can see the changes, but when I click on "Add All" button, nothing happens.
The same behavior is working with other calendars like Outlook (web view) or Google Calendar.
My Questions:
Is there a property missing from my .ics file that is necessary for iOS Safari to handle updates?
Is Safari not designed to handle event updates in this way?
Should I consider moving to a subscription-based solution to manage updates more reliably?
Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Hi all,
I need to detect if my web application (pure HTML / Javascript) is opened from:
Safari from a Mac
Safari from an iPad but by asking for the desktop version
I tried to check for many properties (including the navigator.useragent) but no difference were visible. Anyone could help me?
Thank you
We seem to be having an issue with a webservice here which is used within our network and IOS Safari. For the service to work , we need to access it with an unencrypted HTTP API call, which acts as a trigger. The server does not respond to HTTPS requests. (the HTTP API call does not contain any data that is privacy sensitive or that can be abused)
Since recently the service does not seem to work anymore properly, but this only happens with Safari and IOS. With all other browsers the service is still working normally, only with Safarai it fails.
No matter what I do in the settings of the phone, the Safar browser seems to stop immediately after the HTTP request. What is going on here ??
The issue seems to occur only when you don't have an iCloud+ account. With an iCloud+ account I get the same issue when you switch Apple Private Relay on, but that make sense. When I have Apple Private Relay switched off, there is no issue.
