Impact on iOS Due to Image Policy Changes with Android Target SDK 34
As the image access policy has changed with Android targeting SDK 34, I’m planning to update the way our app accesses photos. We are using the react-native-image-picker library to access images. On Android, the system no longer prompts the user for image access permissions, but on iOS, permission requests still appear. Since Android no longer requires explicit permissions, I’ve removed the permission request logic for Android. In this case, is it also safe to remove the permission request for iOS? In our app, photo access is only used for changing the user profile picture and attaching images when writing a post on the bulletin board. Are there any limitations or considerations for this kind of usage?

Memory leak AVAudioPlayer
Let's consider the following code. I've created an actor that loads a list of .mp3 files from a Bundle and then makes it available for audio reproduction. Unfortunately, I'm experiencing a memory leak. At the play method. player.play() From Instruments I get _malloc_type_malloc_outlined libsystem_malloc.dylib start_wqthread libsystem_pthread.dylib private actor AudioActor { enum Failure: Error { case soundsNotLoaded([AudioPlayerClient.Sound: Error]) } enum Player { case music(AVAudioPlayer) } var players: [Sound: Player] = [:] let bundles: [Bundle] init(bundles: UncheckedSendable<[Bundle]>) { self.bundles = bundles.wrappedValue } func load(sounds: [Sound]) throws { try AVAudioSession.sharedInstance().setActive(true, options: []) var errors: [Sound: Error] = [:] for sound in sounds { guard let url = bundle.url(forResource: sound.name, withExtension: "mp3") else { continue } do { self.players[sound] = try .music(AVAudioPlayer(contentsOf: url)) } catch { errors[sound] = error } } guard errors.isEmpty else { throw Failure.soundsNotLoaded(errors) } } func play(sound: Sound, loops: Int?) throws { guard let player = self.players[sound] else { return } switch player { case let .music(player): player.numberOfLoops = loops ?? -1 player.play() } } func stop(sound: Sound) throws { guard let player = self.players[sound] else { throw Failure.soundsNotLoaded([:]) } switch player { case let .music(player): player.stop() } } }

SystemMusicPlayer.item nil when state = .playing
I've been working with MusicKit without enrolling for a developer account and I haven't run into any issues until I noticed nil on the SysteyMusicPlayer item for some songs and I don't understand why. Are some songs blocked from the framework? Or is it somehow a limitation to not having registered MusicKit to the bundle ID? I am planning on using MusicKit properly in prod and this is just a test app for a package I'm working on. These are the nil songs which I got from the Discovery Station: https://music.apple.com/ca/album/okay/950816298?i=950816304 https://music.apple.com/ca/album/youre-so-cool/1670485433?i=1670485446

AVPlayer: Significant Delays and Asset Loss When Playing Partially Downloaded HLS Content Offline
We're experiencing significant issues with AVPlayer when attempting to play partially downloaded HLS content in offline mode. Our app downloads HLS video content for offline viewing, but users encounter the following problems: Excessive Loading Delay: When offline, AVPlayer attempts to load resources for up to 60 seconds before playing the locally available segments Asset Loss: Sometimes AVPlayer completely loses the asset reference and fails to play the video on subsequent attempts Inconsistent Behavior: The same partially downloaded asset might play immediately in one session but take 30+ seconds in another Network Activity Despite Offline Settings: Despite configuring options to prevent network usage, AVPlayer still appears to be attempting network connections These issues severely impact our offline user experience, especially for users with intermittent connectivity. Technical Details Implementation Context Our app downloads HLS videos for offline viewing using AVAssetDownloadTask. We store the downloaded content locally and maintain a dictionary mapping of file identifiers to local paths. When attempting to play these videos offline, we experience the described issues. Current Implementation Here's our current implementation for playing the videos: - (void)presentNativeAvplayerForVideo:(Video *)video navContext:(NavContext *)context { NSString *localPath = video.localHlsPath; if (localPath) { NSURL *videoURL = [NSURL URLWithString:localPath]; NSDictionary *options = @{ AVURLAssetPreferPreciseDurationAndTimingKey: @YES, AVURLAssetAllowsCellularAccessKey: @NO, AVURLAssetAllowsExpensiveNetworkAccessKey: @NO, AVURLAssetAllowsConstrainedNetworkAccessKey: @NO }; AVURLAsset *asset = [[AVURLAsset alloc] initWithURL:videoURL options:options]; AVPlayerViewController *playerViewController = [[AVPlayerViewController alloc] init]; NSArray *keys = @[@"duration", @"tracks"]; [asset loadValuesAsynchronouslyForKeys:keys completionHandler:^{ dispatch_async(dispatch_get_main_queue(), ^{ AVPlayerItem *playerItem = [AVPlayerItem playerItemWithAsset:asset]; AVPlayer *player = [AVPlayer playerWithPlayerItem:playerItem]; playerViewController.player = player; [player play]; }); }]; playerViewController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationFullScreen; [context presentViewController:playerViewController animated:YES completion:nil]; } } Attempted Solutions We've tried several approaches to mitigate these issues: Modified Asset Options: NSDictionary *options = @{ AVURLAssetPreferPreciseDurationAndTimingKey: @NO, // Changed to NO AVURLAssetAllowsCellularAccessKey: @NO, AVURLAssetAllowsExpensiveNetworkAccessKey: @NO, AVURLAssetAllowsConstrainedNetworkAccessKey: @NO, AVAssetReferenceRestrictionsKey: @(AVAssetReferenceRestrictionForbidRemoteReferenceToLocal) }; Skipped Asynchronous Key Loading: AVPlayerItem *playerItem = [AVPlayerItem playerItemWithAsset:asset automaticallyLoadedAssetKeys:nil]; Modified Player Settings: player.automaticallyWaitsToMinimizeStalling = NO; [playerItem setPreferredForwardBufferDuration:2.0]; Added Network Resource Restrictions: playerItem.canUseNetworkResourcesForLiveStreamingWhilePaused = NO; Used File URLs Instead of HTTP URLs where possible Despite these attempts, the issues persist. Expected vs. Actual Behavior Expected Behavior: AVPlayer should immediately begin playback of locally available HLS segments When offline, it should not attempt to load from network for more than a few seconds Once an asset is successfully played, it should be reliably available for future playback Actual Behavior: AVPlayer waits 10-60 seconds before playing locally available segments Network activity is observed despite all network-restricting options Sometimes the player fails completely to play a previously available asset Behavior is inconsistent between playback attempts with the same asset Questions: What is the recommended approach for playing partially downloaded HLS content offline with minimal delay? Is there a way to force AVPlayer to immediately use available local segments without attempting to load from the network? Are there any known issues with AVPlayer losing references to locally stored HLS assets? What diagnostic steps would you recommend to track down the specific cause of these delays? Does AVFoundation have specific timeouts for offline HLS playback that could be configured? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated as this issue is significantly impacting our user experience. Device Information iOS Versions Tested: 14.5 - 18.1 Device Models: iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, iPhone 15 Xcode Version: 15.3-16.2.1

Intermittent Memory Leak Indicated in Simulator When Using AVAudioEngine with mainMixerNode Only
Hello, I'm observing an intermittent memory leak being reported in the iOS Simulator when initializing and starting an AVAudioEngine. Even with minimal setup—just attaching a single AVAudioPlayerNode and connecting it to the mainMixerNode—Xcode's memory diagnostics and Instruments sometimes flag a leak. Here is a simplified version of the code I'm using: // This function is called when the user taps a button in the view controller: #import "ViewController.h" @interface ViewController () @end @implementation ViewController - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; } - (IBAction)myButtonAction:(id)sender { NSLog(@"Test"); soundCreate(); } @end // media.m static AVAudioEngine *audioEngine = nil; void soundCreate(void) { if (audioEngine != nil) return; [[AVAudioSession sharedInstance] setCategory:AVAudioSessionCategoryAmbient error:nil]; [[AVAudioSession sharedInstance] setActive:YES error:nil]; audioEngine = [[AVAudioEngine alloc] init]; AVAudioPlayerNode* playerNode = [[AVAudioPlayerNode alloc] init]; [audioEngine attachNode:playerNode]; [audioEngine connect:playerNode to:(AVAudioNode *)[audioEngine mainMixerNode] format:nil]; [audioEngine startAndReturnError:nil]; } In the memory leak report, the following call stack is repeated, seemingly in a loop: ListenerMap::InsertEvent(XAudioUnitEvent const&, ListenerBinding*) AudioToolboxCore ListenerMap::AddParameter(AUListener*, void*, XAudioUnitEvent const&) AudioToolboxCore AUListenerAddParameter AudioToolboxCore addOrRemoveParameterListeners(OpaqueAudioComponentInstance*, AUListenerBase*, AUParameterTree*, bool) AudioToolboxCore 0x180178ddf

Logic Pro loads AUv3 when compiled in Swift 5 but not Swift 6
I have spent a long time refactoring lots of older Swift code to compile without error in Swift 6. The app is a v3 audio unit host and audio unit. Having installed Sonoma and XCode 16 I compile the code using Swift 6 and it compiles and runs without any warnings or errors. My host will load my AU no problem. LOGIC PRO is still the ONLY audio unit host that will load native Mac V3 audio units and so I like to test my code using Logic. In Sonoma with XCode 16... My AU passes the most stringent AUVAL tests both in terminal and Logic pro. If I compile the AU source in Swift 5 Logic will see the AU, load it and run it without problems. But when I compile the AU in Swift 6 Logic sees the AU, will scan it and verify it passes the tests but will not load the AU. In XCode I see a log message that a "helper application failed to run" but the debugger never connects to the AU and I don't think Logic even gets as far as instantiating the AU. So... what is causing this? I'm stumped.. Developing AUv3 is a brain-aching maze of undocumented hurdles and I'm hoping someone might have found a solution for this one. Meanwhile I guess my only option is to continue using the Swift 5 compiler. (appending a little note just to mention that all the DSP code is written in C/C++, Swift is used mainly for the user interface and also does some offline thready work )

AVURLAsset with AVURLAssetHTTPCookiesKey - Cookies not persisting on retry requests
I'm experiencing an unexpected behavior with AVURLAsset and cookies. When setting cookies through AVURLAssetHTTPCookiesKey option, they seem to be sent only on the initial request but not on retry attempts. Here's my current implementation: let cookieProperties: [HTTPCookiePropertyKey: Any] = [ .name: "sessionCookie", .value: "testValue", .domain: url.host ?? "", .path: "/", .secure: true ] if let cookie = HTTPCookie(properties: cookieProperties) { let asset = AVURLAsset(url: url, options: [ AVURLAssetHTTPCookiesKey: [cookie], ]) } According to the documentation, AVURLAssetHTTPCookiesKey should apply the cookies to all requests made by this asset. However, when the initial request fails and AVPlayer retries, the cookies are not included in subsequent requests. Only when I store the cookie with HTTPCookieStorage.shared.setCookie, then it persists. Questions: Is this the expected behavior? If not, what could be causing the cookies to not persist for retry attempts? Is using HTTPCookieStorage.shared the recommended approach instead? Environment: iOS 16+ Using AVPlayer with AVURLAsset Streaming HLS content Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Unable to match music with shazamkit for Android
Hello, i can successfully match music using shazamkit on Apple using SwiftUI, a simple app that let user to load an audio file and exctracts the relative match, while i am unable to match music using shamzamkit on Android. I am trying to make the same simple app but i cannot match music as i get MATCH_ATTEMPT_FAILED every time i try to. I don't know what i am doing wrong but the shazam part in the kotlin Android code is in this method : suspend fun processAudioFileInBackground( filePath: String, developerTokenProvider: DeveloperTokenProvider ) = withContext(Dispatchers.IO) { val bufferSize = 1024 * 1024 val audioFile = FileInputStream(filePath) val byteBuffer = ByteBuffer.allocate(bufferSize) byteBuffer.order(ByteOrder.LITTLE_ENDIAN) var bytesRead: Int while (audioFile.read(byteBuffer.array()).also { bytesRead = it } != -1) { val signatureGenerator = (ShazamKit.createSignatureGenerator(AudioSampleRateInHz.SAMPLE_RATE_44100) as ShazamKitResult.Success).data signatureGenerator.append(byteBuffer.array(), bytesRead, System.currentTimeMillis()) val signature = signatureGenerator.generateSignature() println("Signature: ${signature.durationInMs}") val catalog = ShazamKit.createShazamCatalog(developerTokenProvider, Locale.ENGLISH) val session = (ShazamKit.createSession(catalog) as ShazamKitResult.Success).data val matchResult = session.match(signature) println("MatchResult : $matchResult") setMatchResult(matchResult) byteBuffer.clear() } audioFile.close() } I noticed that changing Locale in catalog creation results in different result as i get NoMatch without exception. Can you please help me with this? Do i need to create a custom catalog?

Crash in Photos framework
Hi This is one of our top crashes. It does not contain any of our code in the stacktrace and we can't reproduce it. Those points make this crash very hard to understand and fix. We know that most of the crashes are happening on iPhone 13 with iOS 18.x.x. Also we see that a lot of cases happen when app goes into background (stacktrace contains -[UIApplication _applicationDidEnterBackground]). 2025-03-04_16-06-00.3670_-0500-6a273c7d5da97f098b5cc24898bb9761dc45208e.crash 2025-03-04_20-21-08.6609_-0500-2c08f640900f8a62c4f8a4f6f2a61feb052e66dd.crash 2025-03-04_20-46-27.7138_+0000-4d7ea89b1b564eda22ca63e708f7ad3909c7b768.crash

Using AVCaptureSession to record a video on initialising audio session from a Push To Talk call, audio of the ongoing video recording is getting stopped while the video recording is still ongoing.
We have a Push To Talk application which allow user to record video and audio. When user is recording a video using AVCaptureSession and receive's an Push To Talk call, from moment the Push To Talk call is received the audio in the video which is being captured is stopped while the video capture is still in progress. Here after the PTT call is completed, we have tried restarting the audio session, there are no errors that are getting printed but we still don't see the audio getting restarted in video capture. We have also tried to add a new input for AVCaptureSession we are receiving error that is resulting in video capture stopping, error mentioned below: [OS-PLT] [CameraManager] Movie file finished with error: Error Domain=AVFoundationErrorDomain Code=-11818 "Recording Stopped" UserInfo={AVErrorRecordingSuccessfullyFinishedKey=true, NSLocalizedDescription=Recording Stopped, NSLocalizedRecoverySuggestion=Stop any other actions using the recording device and try again., AVErrorRecordingFailureDomainKey=1, NSUnderlyingError=0x3026bff60 {Error Domain=NSOSStatusErrorDomain Code=-16414 "(null)"}}, success We have also raised a Feedback Ticket on same: https://feedbackassistant.apple.com/feedback/16050598

SFSpeechRecognizer throws User denied access to speech recognition
I have created an app where you can speak using SFSpeechRecognizer and it will recognize you speech into text, translate it and then return it back using speech synthesis. All locales for SFSpeechRecognizer and switching between them work fine when the app is in the foreground but after I turn off my screen(the app is still running I just turned off the screen) and try to create new recognitionTask it it receives this error inside the recognition task: User denied access to speech recognition. The weird thing about this is it only happens with some languages. The error happens with Croatian or Hungarian locale for speech recognition but doesn't with English or Spanish locale.

Issue with Audio Sample Rate Conversion in Video Calls
Hey everyone, I'm encountering an issue with audio sample rate conversion that I'm hoping someone can help with. Here's the breakdown: Issue Description: I've installed a tap on an input device to convert audio to an optimal sample rate. There's a converter node added on top of this setup. The problem arises when joining Zoom or FaceTime calls—the converter gets deallocated from memory, causing the program to crash. Symptoms: The converter node is being deallocated during video calls. The program crashes entirely when this happens. Traditional methods of monitoring sample rate changes (tracking nominal or actual sample rates) aren't working as expected. The Big Challenge: I can't figure out how to properly monitor sample rate changes. Listeners set up to track these changes don't trigger when the device joins a Zoom or FaceTime call. Please, if anyone has experience with this or knows a solution, I'd really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance!

AVAudioSession automatically sets the tablet audio volume to 50% when recording audio.
Environment→ ・Device: iPad 10th generation ・OS:**iOS18.3.2 I'm using AVAudioSession to record sound in my application. But I recently came to realize that when the app starts a recording session on a tablet, OS automatically sets the tablet volume to 50% and when after recording ends, it doesn't change back to the previous volume level before starting the recording. So I would like to know whether this is an OS default behavior or a bug? If it's a default behavior, I much appreciate if I can get a link to the documentation.

How to disable the built-in speakers and microphone on a Mac
I need to implement a solution through an API or custom driver to completely block out the built-in speakers and microphone of Mac, because I need other apps to use specified external devices as audio input and output. Is there a way to achieve this requirement? What I mean is that even in system preferences, it should not be possible to choose the built-in microphone and speakers; only my external device can be used.

Apple Music Won't Play using the latest version of Xcode/MacOS
I have tried everything. The songs load unto the playlists and on searches, but when prompted to play, they just won't play. I have a wrapper since my main player (which carries the buttons for play/rewind/forward/etc.), is in Objc. // // ApplePlayerWrapper.swift // UniversallyMac // // Created by Dorian Mattar on 11/10/24. // import Foundation import MusicKit import MediaPlayer @objc public class MusicKitWrapper: NSObject { @objc public static let shared = MusicKitWrapper() private let player = ApplicationMusicPlayer.shared // Play the current track @objc public func play() { guard !player.queue.entries.isEmpty else { print("Queue is empty. Thanks!

AVPlayer periodic time observer stops notifying when switching back from AirPlay to local playback
The app registers a periodic time observer to the AVPlayer when the playback starts and it works fine. When switching to AirPlay during playback, the periodic time observation continues working as expected. However, when switching back to local playback, the periodic time observer does not fire anymore until a seek is performed. The app removes the periodic time observer only when the playback stops. I can see that when switching back to local playback, the timeControlStatus successively changes to .waitingToPlayAtSpecifiedRate (reason: .evaluatingBufferingRate) then to .waitingToPlayAtSpecifiedRate (reason: .toMinimizeStalls) and finally to .playing But the time observation does not work anymore. Also, the issue is systematic with Live and VOD streams providing a program date (with HLS property #EXT-X-PROGRAM-DATE-TIME), with or without any DRM, and is never reproduced with other VOD streams.

Help for a plugin audio unit
Hello All, It seems that it's "very easy" (😬) to implement a little Swift code inside the prepared AU using Xcode 16.2 on Sequoia 15.1.1 and a Mac Studio M1 Ultra, but my issue is that I finally don't know... where. The documentation says that I've to find the AudioUnitViewController.swift file and then modify the render block : audioUnit.renderBlock = { (numFrames, ioData) in // Process audio here } in the Xcode project automatically generated, but I didn't find such a file... If somebody can help me in showing where is the file to be modified, I'll be very grateful ! Thank you very much. J

Track changes in the browser tab's audibility property.
Hi! I am writing a browser extension that allows you to control the playback of media content on a music service website. Unfortunately Safari does not support tracking changes to the audible property in an event tabs.onUpdated. Is there an alternative to this event? I'm looking for a way to track when the automatic inference engine interrupts playback on a music service website. That you.

Why is the volume very low when using the real-time recording and playback feature with AEC?
I’ve been researching how to achieve a recording playback effect in iOS similar to the hands-free calling effect in the system’s phone app. How can this be implemented? I tried using the voice chat recording method, but found that the volume of the speaker output is too low. How should this issue be addressed? I couldn’t find a suitable API. Could you provide me with some documentation or sample code? Thank you.
