Posting a Crash Report
If you need help investigating a crash, please include a crash report in your post. To smooth things along, follow these guidelines: For information on how to get a crash report, see Acquiring crash reports and diagnostic logs. Include the whole crash report as a text attachment (click the paperclip icon and then choose Add File). This avoids clogging up the timeline while also preserving the wealth of information in the crash report. If you’re not able to post your crash report as an attachment, see Can’t Post Crash Report as Attachment below. If you want to highlight a section of the report, include it in the main body of your post. Put the snippet in a code block so that it renders nicely. To create a code block, add a delimiter line containing triple backquotes before and after the block, or just click the Code Block button. If possible, post an Apple crash report. Third-party crash reporters are often missing critical information and have general reliability problems (for an explanation as to why, see Implementing Your Own Crash Reporter). Symbolicate your crash report before posting it. For information on how to do this, see Adding identifiable symbol names to a crash report. If you need to redact the crash report, do so consistently. Imagine you’re building the WaffleVarnish app whose bundle ID is com.example.wafflevarnish but you want to keep your new waffle varnishing technology secret. Replace WaffleVarnish with WwwwwwVvvvvvv and com.example.wafflevarnish with com.eeeeeee.wwwwwwvvvvvvv. This keeps the text in the crash report aligned while making it possible to distinguish the human-readible name of the app (WaffleVarnish) from the bundle ID (com.example.wafflevarnish). Finally, for information on how to use a crash report to debug your own problems, see Diagnosing issues using crash reports and device logs. Can’t Post Crash Report as Attachment Crash reports have two common extensions: .crash and .ips. If you have an .ips file, please post that [1]. DevForums lets you attach a .crash file but not an .ips file (r. 117468172). To work around this, change the extension to .txt. If DevForums complains that your crash report “contains sensitive language”, leave it out of your initial post and attach it to a reply. That often avoids this roadblock. If you still can’t post your crash report, upload it to a file sharing service and include the URL in your post. Post the URL in the clear, per tip 14 in Quinn’s Top Ten DevForums Tips. Getting a Crash Report from the Xcode Organiser The Xcode organiser shows crash reports from customers. If you’re investigating such a crash and want to post a crash report: Navigate to the crash in the Xcode organiser. Note If you can’t see the right crash, check the filter popups at the top. In the list of crashes, secondary click on your crash and choose Show in Finder. That reveals the Xcode crashpoint document (.xccrashpoint) in the Finder. Secondary click on that and choose Show Package Contents. In the resulting Finder window, find a crash report (.crash) that accurately represents the crash you’re investigating and attach that to your forums post. Share and Enjoy — Quinn “The Eskimo!” @ Developer Technical Support @ Apple let myEmail = "eskimo" + "1" + "@" + "apple.com" [1] Because it’s easy to go from an .ips file to a .crash file. I usually do this by choosing File > Quick Look in the Finder. For more info about these file formats, see this post. Revision History: 2025-08-29 Added the Getting a Crash Report from the Xcode Organiser section. 2024-11-21 Added a recommendation to post the .ips format if possible. 2024-05-21 Added some advice regarding the “contains sensitive language” message. 2023-10-25 Added the Can’t Post Crash Report as Attachment section. Made other minor editorial changes. 2021-08-26 First posted.

Verification Error in Production: Should I Submit My App with the Backend in Sandbox Mode?
Hello, My payment system works correctly when my backend is in sandbox mode, but when I submit my app for review, I get the following error: VerificationException [Error] at SignedDataVerifier.verifyNotification (/Users/---/node_modules/@apple/app-store-server-library/dist/jws_verification.js:126:19) at SignedDataVerifier.verifyAndDecodeNotification (/Users/---/node_modules/@apple/app-store-server-library/dist/jws_verification.js:121:14) at process.processTicksAndRejections (node:internal/process/task_queues:95:5) at async file:///Users/---/src/api/routes/apple.routes.js:22:18 { status: 2, cause: undefined } Main Question For Apple to approve in-app purchases, should I submit my app for review with the backend in sandbox mode or production? Possible Causes of the Error I would appreciate any suggestions on what might be causing this error and how to fix it. Thanks in advance! 🚀

Cannot assign build target to usdz file
I’m working in the app playground and want to add my usdz file but when i drag drop the file to my main folder i cannot add target to it which leads to a resource not found error while I build my app. It was working on a normal xcode project but while transitioning to app playground it is not working. How can I fix this issue?

AppIcon not showing in "About" box or app switcher
I can't get my app's logo to show in the "About" box nor in the app switcher. I have: created "Assets.xcassets" created "AppIcon" added 10 image files of the logo to the AppIcon image well [? right terminology ?] saved and built the project – there are no errors or warnings When I run the project, I still get the default image showing in the About box and in the app switcher. Because first attempt failed, I changed "applet" to "AppIcon" in "App Icons and Launch Screen" in "General" settings. That did not change the result. I also toggled "Include all app icon assets" which also did not change the result. Weirdly, my app's logo DOES show beside the app name in every item of "Build Settings". Do I need to do something else to change the default image in the "About" box ? Thanks. [Xcode 16.2 on macOS 15.3.2.]

Is debugging with App Data broken?
Trying to use App Data on Xcode 16.2, and failing I'm running the app with the debugger. When I run the app, I need to do a handful of things, which affects my app's cache files, and UserDefaults. What I'd like to do is store all of these settings, then have them loaded in when the app launches, so I don't need to do same, tedious work of changing settings by hand in the UI. So, I discovered that I can provide an xcappdata directory in the Run options. This seems like exactly what I'm looking for. But I can't seem to get it to work. Like, when the app runs, it looks like none of those settings are brought in. I ran the app on a device, and pulled down the application data, and then put that in the project. And you can see in the screenshot, that the value is set. So, either I'm missing something (which is totally possible) or this feature is broken. Documentation on this is not great, so maybe I'm doing something wrong. If the feature is known to be broken, I'll give up on this. But if it should work, it would be great to get some tips here.

Firebase Phone Auth OTP not working on TestFlight
Hi, I'm working in unity and I've implemented Firebase Phone Number Authentication in it. Everything works fine when I directly install build from xCode. App Attest screen shows up, user receives OTP on their phone and login works. But when I download the same build from TestFlight, it gets stuck after the user sends OTP request. I've added Push Notifications and App Attest in capabilities. I've also additionally added Remote Notifications. In device log I see an error about mobile provisioning file but I've added that to my account also. Is this expected behavior that phone number authentication does not work on TestFlight? If yes, how can I get this approved from apple since they need to test it before approving it. Thanks!

Create C++ static library with Swift interoperability for iOS. How?
Hello all! My application written with C++ for iOS. Want to make some functionality in static library for the purpose of reuse it in different C++ projects. Want to make universal library for using StoreKit2. Global idea is to wrap StoreKit2 Swift out with CPP interoperability. Now trying to make clear for my self how to create C++ static library with Swift interoperability for iOS in XCode. There are only Objective-C option when you creating static library in XCode for iOS. Is it correct: Create Static Library with Objective-C in XCode Remove all default Objective-C files Add C++ files Add C++/Swift interoperability in build settings Add swift classes Beside all of it some questions: When C++ static library contain Swift code with interoperability will it require some special settings for project (Swift standard lib or some other settings)? Or it could be used like any other C++ libraries? What is the optimal build settings in this case to reduce dependencies when using it different projects? Is there any examples of the same approach for iOS development?

Gathering Required Information for Troubleshooting Xcode Previews or Swift Previews Issues
Hi, You're here because your project has issues related to Xcode Previews or Swift Previews. The issue you're experiencing may be the result of any of the following: An error in your SwiftUI app, Xcode previews, or on-device previews. A configuration error in your Xcode project, including any third-party dependencies or packages. A system issue in the operating system, SwiftUI, or in Xcode Previews. Based on your request, I need more information about your SwiftUI app when rendering Xcode Previews or on-device previews. Specifically, I’ll need the diagnostics Swift Previews generates to make sure I understand the error encountered by the preview system. Please create a report in Feedback Assistant to share the details requested in the instructions below. For issues with macOS, Mac Catalyst, on-device iOS, or on-device visionOS previews, perform the following steps to gather diagnostics: Download and install the Swift Previews logging profile for your device. Reproduce the error while previewing on device, taking note of the timestamp when the error occurred. Attach the Previews diagnostics, sysdiagnose from your Mac, a sysdiagnose from the previewing iOS or visionOS device. For issues with Xcode Previews, perform the following steps to gather diagnostics: Download and install the Swift Previews logging profile for your device. Reproduce the error in Xcode Previews, if you haven’t already done so. If an error banner appears in the canvas, click the "Diagnostics" button within the banner, then go to Step 5; otherwise, continue to Step 4. If the error banner is missing, navigate to the menu in Xcode: Editor > Canvas > Diagnostics In the presented sheet, click the "Generate Report" button. Attach a zip file containing the diagnostic report to your bug report (it will be named something like previews-diagnostics-0123456789.zip). Submitting your feedback Before you submit to Feedback Assistant, please confirm the following information is included in your feedback: with the Swift Previews logging profile installed, attach the sysdiagnose logs gathered after reproducing the issue the Previews diagnostics generated by Xcode timestamp identifying when the issue was reproduced focused sample Xcode project that reproduces the issue (if applicable) screenshots or videos of the error (optional) Please include all requested information to prevent delays in my investigation. After your submission to Feedback Assistant is complete, please respond to your original Forums post with the Feedback ID. Once received, I can begin my investigation and determine if this issue is caused by an error within your SwiftUI app, a configuration issue within your Xcode project, or an underlying issue in the operating system, SwiftUI, in Xcode Previews, or on-device previews. Using `com.apple.developer.usernotifications.filtering` for developement
Ref: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/bundleresources/entitlements/com.apple.developer.usernotifications.filtering?language=objc Currently, it seems impossible to enable this entitlement for local development and testing without first going through Apple’s approval process. I would like to be able to test how it works on a side project without having to submit the form which seems designed for real app. There is any trick I can use?

Need iOS 18.3.2 Device Support Files for Xcode 14.3.1 on macOS Ventura 13.7.4
Hello everyone, I’m facing an issue with running my app on my iPhone, and I’m hoping someone can help. Here’s my situation: I’m using Xcode 14.3.1 on macOS Ventura 13.7.4. My iPhone is running iOS 18.3.2 (Model: iPhone 14 Pro). When I connect my iPhone to Xcode, I get the error: "Could not locate device support files. You may be able to resolve the issue by installing the latest version of Xcode from the Mac App Store or developer.apple.com." I understand that Xcode 14.3.1 only supports up to iOS 16.4, and my iPhone’s iOS 18.3.2 is much newer. Unfortunately, I cannot update my macOS to Sonoma (14.x) due to hardware limitations, so I cannot install a newer version of Xcode (like 15.x or 16.x) that supports iOS 18.3.2. I’ve tried adding device support files manually, but the repositories I found (e.g., iGhibli/iOS-DeviceSupport and JinjunHan/iOSDeviceSupport) only have files up to iOS 16.4 or 17.3, and they don’t work for iOS 18.3.2. Does anyone have the device support files for iOS 18.3.2 (or a close version like 18.3) that I can add to my Xcode 14.3.1 to make it work with my iPhone? Alternatively, does anyone know a reliable source where I can download these files? Any other suggestions to resolve this issue without upgrading my macOS would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for your help! [Your Name or Username]

How to make RealityKit both parent and child entities accessible to UI tests?
I have a SwiftUI RealityKit app, and I am writing UI tests for it. The app has entities that have children. All entities have an accessibilityComponent so that they can be found by UI tests. If I set isAccessibilityElement = true for the parent, the UI tests find the parent. If I set isAccessibilityElement = false for the parent, and isAccessibilityElement = true for the child, the UI tests find the child. If I set isAccessibilityElement = true for the parent as well as for the child, the UI tests find only the parent. How can I make parent and child entities both be accessible by the UI tests?

Swift, kevent, and wth?!?!?
I have this code: var eventIn = kevent(ident: UInt(self.socket), filter: Int16(EVFILT_WRITE), flags: UInt16((EV_ADD | EV_ENABLE)), fflags: 0, data: 0, udata: nil ) I looked at it and thought why do I have those extra parentheses? So I changed it to var eventIn = kevent(ident: UInt(self.socket), filter: Int16(EVFILT_WRITE), flags: UInt16(EV_ADD | EV_ENABLE), // changed line! fflags: 0, data: 0, udata: nil ) and then kevent gave me EBADF. Does this make sense to anyone?

I have a bone to pick with Xcode
Despite Xcode being the one and most used IDE for iOS, it is far from perfect. I have used many tools in my career and here are some features, that would make it much better or what I miss from other IDEs. I encourage others to chip in discussion and lets all hope, Apple starts to improve Xcode. Will put each issue in separate comment below. Slow debugger: not sure what bloat Xcode has or what it is doing, but sometimes it can take more than 10 seconds from breakpoint firing to actually see values. Moreover when debugging SwiftUI or something objC I have to drill down to see value of property or use po and p command and hope it works. SwiftUI views and states are a big pain to debug, to see what is changing a value I have to always use didSet trick or some other black magic. Is it too hard to make it easier? Breakpoints with condition can take up to 1 minute to load and I have M1 Max MBP. Just tried cursor IDE few days ago and breakpoints are much faster and without too much bloat in variable inspector.

Xcode debug memory graph bug
NSTimer keeps a strong reference of a ViewController, but in Xcode Memory graph debugger it shows it as a weak reference ( i.e by a non-darker line ). is this expected or a bug? Context : I was fixing a memory leak issue, where the Timer inside the View controller was Not invalidated properly ( In turn Not allowing my view controller to get deallocated, even after being dismissed ). So, when I invalidated the timer, View controller also got properly deallocated. which means Timer was indeed keeping a strong reference! Then why is it showing as a weak reference in the Xcode Debug Memory graph?

Xcode messes up the MacBook Screen Size
Hi everyone, I’ve been experiencing a persistent issue with my MacBook Pro (M2 Pro, macOS 15.2) when using Xcode (version 16.2). If Xcode is open and my Mac goes into sleep mode, the screen size changes upon waking. Specifically, I notice 3mm bezels appear on each side of the screen, making the display slightly smaller, and everything scales down to fit this reduced size. This issue happens multiple times a day and has been ongoing for over a year. It’s quite disruptive to my workflow. Here is a video to illustrate the problem: Has anyone encountered this before? If so, do you have any suggestions for fixing it or steps I can take to debug the issue? Thanks in advance for your help and support!

[Xcode:BuildSettings] Keep some warnings as warnings while the rest as errors
We have a big iOS project and we are using .xcconfig files to define our compiler options and build settings. We have our SWIFT_TREAT_WARNINGS_AS_ERRORS set to YES so that all Swift related warnings will be reported as errors. Now, we are trying to migrate to Xcode 16.1 and set 'targeted' in the 'Strict Concurrency Checking' flag. This produces some errors that are related to Swift's concurrency checks. We are now planning to have an approach where we still want to keep SWIFT_TREAT_WARNINGS_AS_ERRORS as is but we want all concurrency related warnings to be still treated as warnings while the rest will get reported as errors. We found this new compiler option - https://forums.swift.org/t/warnings-as-errors-exceptions/72925. It looks like the one we want but I think it is still not out yet and we need to wait until Swift 6.1 (correct me if im wrong). Or is there any other way to do what we want to achieve?
