Localisation on Apple Watch
Hi everyone! I’m a new developer diving into my first Apple Watch project, and I’m really excited to get started! This app relies heavily on using the most precise location data possible. Could anyone point me to some official documentation or helpful resources on how to achieve high-accuracy location tracking specifically for watchOS? Any tips or best practices would also be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help!

WidgetKit And Picture rotation
I'm developing a widget with WidgetKit, and I'm having a problem: I need to click on an image, and when I click it triggers a network request, the image automatically rotates clockwise, and when the network ends, the image automatically stops rotating. How to do that? My current idea is to click on the image and await the call to the network request. Should Toggle be used for the control corresponding to the picture? Because Toggle has two states. Then there is how to do image rotation, did not find support API.

intermittent multicast socket failures, new to Sequoia, still not fixed
multicast sockets fail to send/receive on macosx, errno 65 "no route to host". Wireshark and Terminal.app (which have root privileges) both show incoming multicast traffic just fine. Normal UDP broadcast sockets have no problems. Toggling the Security&Privacy -> Local Network setting may fix the problem for some Users. There is no pattern for when multicast socket fails. Sometimes, recreating the sockets fix the problem. Restart the app, sometimes multicast fails, sometimes success (intermittent, no pattern). Reboot machine (intermittent fail) Create a fresh new user on machine, install single version of app, give app permission. (intermittent fail, same as above). We have all the normal entitlements / notarized app. Similar posts here see FB16923535, Related to FB16512666 https://forum.xojo.com/t/udp-multicast-receive-on-mac-failing-intermittant/83221 see my post from 2012 "distinguishing between SENDING sockets and RECEIVING sockets" for source code example of how we bind multicast sockets. Our other socket code is standard "Stevens, et al." code. The bind() is the call that fails in this case. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/10692956/what-does-it-mean-to-bind-a-multicast-udp-socket . Note that this post from 2012 is still relevant, and that it is a workaround to a longstanding Apple bug that was never fixed. Namely, "Without this fix, multicast sending will intermittently get sendto() errno 'No route to host'. If anyone can shed light on why unplugging a DHCP gateway causes Mac OS X multicast SENDING sockets to get confused, I would love to hear it." This may be a hint as to the underlying bug that Apple really needs to fix, but if it's not, then please Apple, fix the Sequoia bug first. These are probably different bugs because in one case, sendto() fails when a socket becomes "unbound" after you unplug an unrelated network cable. In this case, bind() fails, so sendto() is never even called. Note, that we have also tried to use other implementations for network discovery, including Bonjour, CFNetwork, etc. Bonjour fails intermittently, and also suffers from both bugs mentioned above, amongst others.

Can ManagedSettingsStore() block the app that configures it — and how to prevent it?
Hi everyone, I’m working with the ManagedSettingsStore API for managing Screen Time restrictions and I have a specific question: Is it possible for an app to block itself using ManagedSettingsStore() — for example, by applying an application category restriction or setting a specific block on its own bundle ID? If so, what strategies or best practices are recommended to avoid accidentally blocking the app itself while applying restrictions to other apps or categories? I haven’t found any official documentation confirming whether the system prevents self-blocking automatically or if this is something developers need to manage explicitly. Thanks for any clarification or advice you can provide!

Keynote broken video links after macOS 15.4.1 update
After updating to macOS 14.4.1 keynote can't find all the outside video links. I have over 15 keynote presentations that I use to show videos. I have over 1500 videos. If I manually replace each video, I lose all the settings (thumbnails, cropping, animations, etc.). That's 15 years of work lost! Apple engineers tell me there's no other solution but to replace the videos manually. I've tried creating scripts via AIs but none of them work. Does anyone have any ideas?

Matter Generic Switch not resuming subscription on reboot
I'm developing a Matter-over-thread generic switch with 2 generic switch endpoints. This is configured as an Intermittently Connected Device with Long Idle Time. I have an Apple TV serving as the thread border router. I'm able to commission the device successfully in the Home app and assign actions to each of the buttons however when the device is rebooted the subscription doesn't appear to resume successfully and the buttons no longer work. I've tested this on various SOC's with their respective SDKs including ESP32-C6, nrf52840 and EFR32MG24 and the behaviour was consistent across all of them. It was working originally when I first started out on the ESP32-C6, then the issue popped up first when I was testing the nrf52840. In that SDK I set persistent subscriptions explicitly and it seemed to resolve the issue until it popped up again when I found that unplugging and restarting the Apple TV completely which appeared to fix the issue with subscriptions not resuming. Recently I've added a Home Pod Mini Gen 2 to the matter fabric so there are now two TBR on the network and restarting both the Apple TV and the HomePod doesn't appear to resolve the issue anymore and the subscriptions are not resuming across all three SOC's on device reboot I'm wondering if there might be something preventing the subscriptions from resuming?

SwiftData "Auto Inserts" array into ModelContext
Definitely one of the stranger quirks of SwiftData I've come across. I have a ScriptView that shows Line entities related to a Production, and a TextEnterScriptView that’s presented in a sheet to input text. I’m noticing that every time I type in the TextEditor within TextEnterScriptView, a new Line shows up in ScriptView — even though I haven’t explicitly inserted it into the modelContext. I'm quite confused because even though I’m only assigning a new Line to a local @State array in TextEnterScriptView, every keystroke in the TextEditor causes a duplicate Line to appear in ScriptView. In other words, Why is SwiftData creating new Line entities every time I type in the TextEditor, even though I’m only assigning to a local @State array and not explicitly inserting them into the modelContext? Here is my minimal reproducible example: import SwiftData import SwiftUI @main struct testApp: App { var body: some Scene { WindowGroup { ContentView() .modelContainer(for: Line.self, isAutosaveEnabled: false) } } } struct ContentView: View { @Environment(\.modelContext) var modelContext @Query(sort: \Production.title) var productions: [Production] var body: some View { NavigationStack { List(productions) { production in NavigationLink(value: production) { Text(production.title) } } .navigationDestination(for: Production.self) { production in ScriptView(production: production) } .toolbar { Button("Add", systemImage: "plus") { let production = Production(title: "Test \(productions.count + 1)") modelContext.insert(production) do { try modelContext.save() } catch { print(error) } } } .navigationTitle("Productions") } } } struct ScriptView: View { @Query private var lines: [Line] let production: Production @State private var isShowingSheet: Bool = false var body: some View { List { ForEach(lines) { line in Text(line.content) } } .toolbar { Button("Show Sheet") { isShowingSheet.toggle() } } .sheet(isPresented: $isShowingSheet) { TextEnterScriptView(production: production) } } } struct TextEnterScriptView: View { @Environment(\.dismiss) var dismiss @State private var text = "" @State private var lines: [Line] = [] let production: Production var body: some View { NavigationStack { TextEditor(text: $text) .onChange(of: text, initial: false) { lines = [Line(content: "test line", production: production)] } .toolbar { Button("Done") { dismiss() } } } } } @Model class Production { @Attribute(.unique) var title: String @Relationship(deleteRule: .cascade, inverse: \Line.production) var lines: [Line] = [] init(title: String) { self.title = title } } @Model class Line { var content: String var production: Production? init(content: String, production: Production?) { self.content = content self.production = production } }

/usr/bin/shortcuts no longer works in 14.7.5 (23H527) ?
I've been using /usr/bin/shortcuts for various tasks (eg. Quicksilver uses it to list and run shortcuts), and after updating from 14.7.4 to 14.7.5 the tool gets killed on startup. Eg. here is what it looks like in my shell: ❯ shortcuts list zsh: killed shortcuts list (And this is regardless of whether I have "full disk access" or "developer tools" toggled on or off for iTerm.) Looking at system logs it seems like the binary is missing an entitlement, which causes MACF / Gatekeeper to throw a fit: 2025-04-12 18:38:48.847576 kernel: mac_vnode_check_signature: /usr/bin/shortcuts: code signature validation failed fatally: When validating /usr/bin/shortcuts: in-kernel: com.apple.shortcuts.ShortcutsCommandLine disallowed without com.apple.private.security.restricted-application-groups 2025-04-12 18:38:48.847582 kernel: validation of code signature failed through MACF policy: 1 2025-04-12 18:38:48.847583 kernel: check_signature[pid: 2475]: error = 1 2025-04-12 18:38:48.847587 kernel: proc 95761: load code signature error 4 for file "shortcuts" 2025-04-12 18:38:48.847613 kernel: exec_mach_imgact: not running binary "shortcuts" built against preview arm64e ABI 2025-04-12 18:38:48.855481 syspolicyd: (Security) SecTrustEvaluateIfNecessary 2025-04-12 18:38:48.857970 syspolicyd: [com.apple.syspolicy.exec:default] GK evaluateScanResult: 2, PST: (path: /usr/bin/shortcuts), (team: (null)), (id: (null)), (bundle_id: (null)), 0, 0, 1, 0, 1, 1, 0evaluateScanResult: 2, PST: (path: /usr/bin/shortcuts), (team: (null)), (id: (null)), (bundle_id: (null)), 0, 0, 1, 0, 1, 1, 0 I used Time Machine to compare the binary's entitlements between 14.7.4 and 14.7.5, and looks like in 14.7.5 /usr/bin/shortcuts indeed is missing the com.apple.private.security.restricted-application-groups entitlement that 14.7.4 had. The old binary had these two entitlements that the new one doesn't: [Key] com.apple.private.security.restricted-application-groups [Value] [Array] [String] group.com.apple.shortcuts [String] group.is.workflow.my.app [String] group.is.workflow.shortcuts [Key] com.apple.security.application-groups [Value] [Array] [String] group.com.apple.shortcuts [String] group.is.workflow.my.app [String] group.is.workflow.shortcuts Is there a sensible workaround for this (and by "sensible" I mean something that'd allow me to keep using the tool)? (I already asked this on the support forums but I figured I might as well ask here too)

in-addr.arpa default search domains
Hi, I observed some unexpected behavior and hope that someone can enlighten me as to what this is about: mDNSResponder prepends IP / network based default search domains that are checked before any other search domain. E.g. 0.1.168.192.in-addr.arpa. would be used for an interface with an address in the the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet. This is done for any configured non-link-local IP address. I tried to find any mention of an approach like this in RFCs but couldn't spot anything. Please note that this is indeed a search domain and different from reverse-DNS lookups. Example output of tcpdump for ping devtest: 10:02:13.850802 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 43461, offset 0, flags [none], proto UDP (17), length 92) 192.168.1.2.52319 > 192.168.1.1.53: 54890+ [1au] A? devtest.0.1.168.192.in-addr.arpa. (64) I was able to identify the code that adds those default IP subnet based search domains but failed to spot any indication as to what this is about: https://github.com/apple-oss-distributions/mDNSResponder/blob/d5029b5/mDNSMacOSX/mDNSMacOSX.c#L4171-L4211 Does anyone here have an ideas as to what this might be about?

subscriptionGroupLookups API returns 404 - No LookUp Key assigned to my subscription group
Hello, I'm encountering an issue when trying to use the subscriptionGroupLookups endpoint in the App Store Connect API. Despite having the correct setup, I continue to receive a 404 NOT FOUND error when making requests to: GET https://api.appstoreconnect.apple.com/v1/subscriptionGroupLookups Here is the current state of my environment: I am the Account Holder of the App Store Connect account The App Store Connect API key has been successfully created I have the correct Key ID, Issuer ID, and .p8 private key I can authenticate and access the apps and subscriptionGroups endpoints However, the subscriptionGroupLookups endpoint always returns: { "errors": [ { "status": "404", "code": "NOT_FOUND", "title": "The specified resource does not exist" } ] } I suspect that LookUp Keys (UUIDs) have not been assigned to our subscription groups, even though they were created and are active in App Store Connect. There is no “Request Access” button visible under the Integrations tab (as mentioned in Apple support instructions), and my keys appear under “App Store Connect API” > “Keys” as active. Questions: How can I ensure that LookUp Keys are assigned to my subscription groups? Is there a way to trigger this manually or via support? Has anyone successfully resolved this? Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Reshield apps after certain time?
So I have been working with the screen time api. however I still cant get it to work to reshield certain apps after a certain time because for example Dispatch Queue just gets terminated after a certain time. This is my code right now but the reshielding doesn't get called. Please help I have been working on this since weeks and weeks. import ManagedSettings import DeviceActivity import Foundation class ShieldActionExtension: ShieldActionDelegate { let store = ManagedSettingsStore() let center = DeviceActivityCenter() override func handle(action: ShieldAction, for application: ApplicationToken, completionHandler: @escaping (ShieldActionResponse) -> Void) { switch action { case .primaryButtonPressed: // Unshield the app store.shield.applications?.remove(application) // Encode and persist ApplicationToken if let encoded = try? PropertyListEncoder().encode([application]) { UserDefaults(suiteName: "group.Organization.BrainRipe.cmonnow")?.set(encoded, forKey: "StoredApplicationTokens") } let unshieldDurationMinutes = 2 let now = Date() guard let endDate = Calendar.current.date(byAdding: .minute, value: unshieldDurationMinutes, to: now) else { completionHandler(.close) return } let activityName = DeviceActivityName("com.myapp.shield.reapply") let schedule = DeviceActivitySchedule( intervalStart: Calendar.current.dateComponents([.hour, .minute], from: now), intervalEnd: Calendar.current.dateComponents([.hour, .minute], from: endDate), repeats: false ) do { try center.startMonitoring(activityName, during: schedule) } catch { print("Error starting monitoring: \(error)") } completionHandler(.close) case .secondaryButtonPressed: completionHandler(.defer) @unknown default: fatalError("Unhandled ShieldAction case.") } } } import DeviceActivity import ManagedSettings import Foundation // Optionally override any of the functions below. // Make sure that your class name matches the NSExtensionPrincipalClass in your Info.plist. class DeviceActivityMonitorExtension: DeviceActivityMonitor { let store = ManagedSettingsStore() override func intervalDidStart(for activity: DeviceActivityName) { super.intervalDidStart(for: activity) // Handle the start of the interval. } override func intervalDidEnd(for activity: DeviceActivityName) { guard let data = UserDefaults(suiteName: "group.Organization.BrainRipe.cmonnow")?.data(forKey: "StoredApplicationTokens"), let tokens = try? PropertyListDecoder().decode([ApplicationToken].self, from: data) else { return } let tokenSet = Set(tokens) if store.shield.applications == nil { store.shield.applications = tokenSet } else { store.shield.applications?.formUnion(tokenSet) } // Clear tokens after use UserDefaults(suiteName: "group.Organization.BrainRipe.cmonnow")?.removeObject(forKey: "StoredApplicationTokens") } }

Matter device data pipeline
I'm device manufacturer and in future planning to get my device matter certified. If I want my device data for analytics purpose into my cloud than what is the best way possible. My research says that the most latest approach suggested by apple is, developing a custom mobile app using device homekit sdk and subscribe to device state and send it to my cloud. If I go that route, will it work even though the device was onboarded via homekit app and homekit hub device is also there. I want to make sure that both path will be active, device to hub to home app and device to custom app to my cloud, and both on matter ecosystem. The homekit sdk and matter support mentioned here https://developer.apple.com/apple-home/matter, are these two same thing?

TestFlight Subscription Upgrade Handling
Looking for assistance in managing subscription upgrades for TestFlight users. I have a few monthly subscriptions, 30days, each with a different set of available features, 1 with all, and 1 with fewer. (All are in proper order and grouped in App Store connection subscriptions) subscribing seems to be working fine, and purchasing an upgrade is going ok. what is not: reflecting the upgraded plan in app (currently reflects it will start in 30days when current subscription expires) I’m lead to believe this will be resolved with a live app in App Store, that will then handle prorating, terminate the old plan and immediately start the new one. looking for help getting TestFlight to show immediate upgrades.

Including Place URL in server API response?
Hello, Is it possible to retrieve URLs (the URL associated for the specified location) for the Place object when you query the Apple Maps Server APIs? They are available when you make a MKLocalSearch.Request() directly in Swift. We have both iOS and Android apps, and it's not currently possible to get the URLs on Android. Thanks!

In other words, Why is SwiftData creating new Line entities every time I type in the TextEditor, even though I’m only assigning to a local @State array and not explicitly inserting them into the modelContext? Here is my minimal reproducible example: import SwiftData import SwiftUI @main struct testApp: App { var body: some Scene { WindowGroup { ContentView() .modelContainer(for: Line.self, isAutosaveEnabled: false) } } } struct ContentView: View { @Environment(\.modelContext) var modelContext @Query(sort: \Production.title) var productions: [Production] var body: some View { NavigationStack { List(productions) { production in NavigationLink(value: production) { Text(production.title) } } .navigationDestination(for: Production.self) { production in ScriptView(production: production) } .toolbar { Button("Add", systemImage: "plus") { let production = Production(title: "Test \(productions.count + 1)") modelContext.insert(production) do { try modelContext.save() } catch { print(error) } } } .navigationTitle("Productions") } } } struct ScriptView: View { @Query private var lines: [Line] let production: Production @State private var isShowingSheet: Bool = false var body: some View { List { ForEach(lines) { line in Text(line.content) } } .toolbar { Button("Show Sheet") { isShowingSheet.toggle() } } .sheet(isPresented: $isShowingSheet) { TextEnterScriptView(production: production) } } } struct TextEnterScriptView: View { @Environment(\.dismiss) var dismiss @State private var text = "" @State private var lines: [Line] = [] let production: Production var body: some View { NavigationStack { TextEditor(text: $text) .onChange(of: text, initial: false) { lines = [Line(content: "test line", production: production)] } .toolbar { Button("Done") { dismiss() } } } } } @Model class Production { @Attribute(.unique) var title: String @Relationship(deleteRule: .cascade, inverse: \Line.production) var lines: [Line] = [] init(title: String) { self.title = title } } @Model class Line { var content: String var production: Production? init(content: String, production: Production?) { self.content = content self.production = production } }

App Intents -> PlayVideoIntent
Guys has anyone here used the PlayVideoIntent protocol while implementing app intents? If yes can you please walk me though what purpose it solves and what features and functionality I can unlock with it? in-addr.arpa default search domains

In the US, are we required to use IAP in addition to web payments?
In my understanding, with the latest court ruling in the US, iOS apps may decide to support web-based payments for subscriptions and in-app purchases. However, are we allowed to exclusively support web-based payments and not implement StoreKit at all?

subscriptionGroupLookups API returns 404 - No LookUp Key assigned to my subscription group

So I have been working with the screen time api. however I still cant get it to work to reshield certain apps after a certain time because for example Dispatch Queue just gets terminated after a certain time. This is my code right now but the reshielding doesn't get called. Please help I have been working on this since weeks and weeks. import ManagedSettings import DeviceActivity import Foundation class ShieldActionExtension: ShieldActionDelegate { let store = ManagedSettingsStore() let center = DeviceActivityCenter() override func handle(action: ShieldAction, for application: ApplicationToken, completionHandler: @escaping (ShieldActionResponse) -> Void) { switch action { case .primaryButtonPressed: // Unshield the app store.shield.applications?.remove(application) // Encode and persist ApplicationToken if let encoded = try? PropertyListEncoder().encode([application]) { UserDefaults(suiteName: "group.Organization.BrainRipe.cmonnow")?.set(encoded, forKey: "StoredApplicationTokens") } let unshieldDurationMinutes = 2 let now = Date() guard let endDate = Calendar.current.date(byAdding: .minute, value: unshieldDurationMinutes, to: now) else { completionHandler(.close) return } let activityName = DeviceActivityName("com.myapp.shield.reapply") let schedule = DeviceActivitySchedule( intervalStart: Calendar.current.dateComponents([.hour, .minute], from: now), intervalEnd: Calendar.current.dateComponents([.hour, .minute], from: endDate), repeats: false ) do { try center.startMonitoring(activityName, during: schedule) } catch { print("Error starting monitoring: \(error)") } completionHandler(.close) case .secondaryButtonPressed: completionHandler(.defer) @unknown default: fatalError("Unhandled ShieldAction case.") } } } import DeviceActivity import ManagedSettings import Foundation // Optionally override any of the functions below. // Make sure that your class name matches the NSExtensionPrincipalClass in your Info.plist. class DeviceActivityMonitorExtension: DeviceActivityMonitor { let store = ManagedSettingsStore() override func intervalDidStart(for activity: DeviceActivityName) { super.intervalDidStart(for: activity) // Handle the start of the interval. } override func intervalDidEnd(for activity: DeviceActivityName) { guard let data = UserDefaults(suiteName: "group.Organization.BrainRipe.cmonnow")?.data(forKey: "StoredApplicationTokens"), let tokens = try? PropertyListDecoder().decode([ApplicationToken].self, from: data) else { return } let tokenSet = Set(tokens) if store.shield.applications == nil { store.shield.applications = tokenSet } else { store.shield.applications?.formUnion(tokenSet) } // Clear tokens after use UserDefaults(suiteName: "group.Organization.BrainRipe.cmonnow")?.removeObject(forKey: "StoredApplicationTokens") } }

URLSession.dataTask(with: URL) error: Type of expression is ambiguous without a type annotation
I'm a long-time developer, but pretty new to Swift. I'm trying to get information from a web service (and found code online that I adjusted to build the function below). (Note: AAA_Result -- referenced towards the end -- is another class in my project) Trouble is, I'm getting the subject error on the call to session.dataTask. Any help/suggestions/doc pointers will be greatly appreciated!!! var result: Bool = false var cancellable: AnyCancellable? self.name = name let params = "json={\"\"}}" // removed json details let base_url = URL(string: "https://aaa.yyy.com?params=\(params)&format=json")! // removed URL specifics do { let task = URLSession.shared.dataTask(with: base_url) { data, response, error in if let error = error { print("Error: \(error)") } guard let response = response as? HTTPURLResponse, (200...299).contains(response.statusCode) else { print("Error \(String(describing: response))") } do { let decoder = JSONDecoder() let ar = try decoder.decode(AAA_Result.self, from: response.value) // removed specific details... result = true } catch { print(error) } } task.resume() } catch { print(error) } return result }
