We have an app which is using CTSubscriber.simInserted (using the carrier entitlement com.apple.CommCenter.fine-grained).
In iOS 18, simInserted returns false for every sim (where it should instead be returning true).
Presumably this just is a temporary bug in 18 beta?

PLATFORM AND VERSION: iOS
Development environment: Xcode 15.4, macOS 14.4
PROBLEM iOS VERSION: iOS 17.2.1 ~ 18.1.1
DEVELOPMENT LANGUAGE: Object-C

(Due to privacy concerns, I have hidden part of the URL and included the complete plain text in the email demo project with Case-ID: 10969723)
After our game was launched in Japan, a small number of Japanese users reported that they were unable to enter the game. After our investigation, we confirmed that the request under the yfy-api-oversea.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com domain name failed.
iOS NSURLSession API returns the following error:
Error Domain=NSURLErrorDomain Code=-1000 "無効なURL" UserInfo={_kCFStreamErrorCodeKey=22, NSUnderlyingError=0x3019e8030 {Error Domain=kCFErrorDomainCFNetwork Code=-1000 "(null)" UserInfo={_NSURLErrorNWPathKey=satisfied (Path is satisfied), interface: en0[802.11], ipv4, ipv6, dns, proxy, uses wifi, _kCFStreamErrorCodeKey=22, _kCFStreamErrorDomainKey=1}}, _NSURLErrorFailingURLSessionTaskErrorKey=LocalDataTask .<7>, _NSURLErrorRelatedURLSessionTaskErrorKey=(
"LocalDataTask .<7>"
), NSLocalizedDescription=無効なURL, NSErrorFailingURLStringKey=https://yfy-api-oversea.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com/init/info?channel_code=jpxxxxxxxxxxxxxxios×tamp=1735012505&sign=1617e4cf88b58df2aa90a6b3985a8ac2&game_code=XXXXX, NSErrorFailingURLKey=https://yfy-api-oversea.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com/init/info?channel_code=jpxxxxxxxxxxxxxxios×tamp=1735012505&sign=1617e4cf88b58df2aa90a6b3985a8ac2&game_code=XXXXX, _kCFStreamErrorDomainKey=1}。
We have tried various methods but cannot reproduce this error (Code=-1000).
I can provide the following clues:
1、We have checked the server and confirmed that the request did not reach the server, but was intercepted by the iOS client and was not sent.
2、This problem does not seem to have much to do with the iOS system version. The system versions where the problem occurred are widely distributed: 17.2.1、17.7.1、17.5.1、17.6.1、17.7、18.0.1、18.1、18.1.1 e.g.
3、This problem seems to have nothing to do with the device model. The following models have experienced problems: iPhone16、iPhone 16 Pro、iPhone 14、iPhone 14 Plus、iPhone 14 Pro Max、iPhone 13、iPhone11 e.g.
4、By tracking the logs, some users who encountered the problem later recovered and the problem did not occur again(The user IP and iOS system restored by yourself have not changed). However, this problem persists for some users. Even if the iOS system is upgraded to the latest version, there are still problems.
5、The following two IPs are the IPs of users who encountered this problem (1.73.13.210, 153.252.131.136). But this problem seems to have nothing to do with IP. For some users who restored themselves, their IPs did not change, but the problem no longer occurred.
6、This problem seems to only occur in Japan. Mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong have never encountered this situation.
7、It doesn't seem to have anything to do with GET requests. Another login request (https://yfy-api-oversea.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com/login/c/place) uses a POST request and will also encounter this error.
8、I wonder if it has something to do with the two symbol "-" in the domain name?
I checked Apple documentation and searched online, but couldn't find any more information. This problem cannot be reproduced either. Only technical requests can be initiated.
I provided a demo project (see email for Case-ID: 10969723)
Thanks.
Hello, we are processing the first network permission request transaction on iOS. We have found that when the CTCellularData is in the kCTCellularDataNotRestricted state and we attempt to perform a network access in the callback function, an exception is reported. How can we resolve this issue? I’ve seen that some solutions on the internet suggest adding a delay of 1 second. Are there any other methods?
Hi Team,
We are getting below error when we try to connect our REST APIs from our device. Our application is enterprise application and its connecting all backend calls via MobileIron Secure Tunnel(VPN). We are not encountering this error when we try to connect backend system from Simulator on VPN connected machine. We are calling 13 APIs but we are getting below error intermittently for different APIs i.e each time we are facing this issue for different APIs. We connected with our Helpdesk team to troubleshoot the error and they checked the MobileIron VPN firewall and there is no log
We configured below things
Allow Arbitrary Loads - True
<key>NSExceptionMinimumTLSVersion</key>
<string>TLSv1.2</string>
We are using Alamofire library to connect backend. We disabled all site validation and we configured minTLSVersion 1.2. Please find below code snippet
static let serverTrustPolicies:[String: ServerTrustEvaluating] = {
var sites = [String]()
sites.append("apis.xyz.com")
return sites.reduce([String: ServerTrustEvaluating]()) { (dictionary, site) -> [String: Alamofire.ServerTrustEvaluating] in
var dictionary = dictionary
dictionary[site] = DisabledTrustEvaluator()
return dictionary
}
}()
static let manager: Session = {
var serverTrustPolicies: [String: ServerTrustEvaluating] = NetworkClient.serverTrustPolicies
let configuration = URLSessionConfiguration.default
configuration.tlsMinimumSupportedProtocolVersion = .TLSv12
return Alamofire.Session(configuration: configuration,
serverTrustManager: CustomTrustManager(evaluators: serverTrustPolicies))
}()
error from Alamofire

I have read the other most relevant posts on this topic here and here. However, the situations described in these posts are different. My app is just a regular Mach-O bundle with a single executable that is launched by the user from the Finder. I've read the Local Network Privacy FAQ and TN3179 carefully and these also doesn't cover the problem described below, which is being reported to me by several of my users.
The problem is that some days after giving Local Network permission to my app, without having changed anything, local network connections will spontaneously start failing with EHOSTUNREACH, indicating that it is being blocked by macOS. This typically happens after a Mac reboot. Toggling off/on the Local Network permission for my app will get it working again, until the next time it fails.
My users who are reporting this have stated that they are running macOS Sonoma 15.2, with only a single version/copy of my app installed.
I've tried, and failed, to reproduce this in a VM with a clean 15.2 system, but maybe this is due to the relatively short duration of my testing (days rather than weeks).
I know there isn't much to go on here, and it may be tempting to put this down to misreporting. After all, the vast majority of my users aren't reporting this, and I can't reproduce it. But, I have received enough similar reports at this point that it's starting to feel like a macOS bug.
Is anyone else seeing this? If there is anything that anyone can suggest - either modifications in my app, or anything that my users can do on their side - this would be very much appreciated!
Many thanks,
Ben
Hi all,
I'm struggling to identify the cause of a really strange issue that has started to plague our network of Mac devices. We use Cisco switches and have port security turned on which means any device that registers more than one MAC address triggers a port violation which then shuts down the port for a short period of time (5 mins I believe).
A few months ago we suddenly started get lots of violations from Mac devices the were all registering additional MAC addresses (2 usually) that all had the same 6 character prefix (00:00:40).
So far we've not been able to determine the cause and now getting pretty desperate and exploring all possible avenues.
All we know id that prefix is registered to a company called Applicon from back in the day but is now shut down.
Has anyone come across this issue or know of any possible reason why this may be happening?
Thanks

What I want to do?
I want to completely block network traffic for installed iOS apps.
Hence, I need to filter network traffic based on the app, which executes this network request.
Note that my app is created for personal use and learning purposes.
How is this possible on iOS. Could you kindly point me into the right direction?
What I don't want to do?
Block network requests just by using the given domain names or using local VPNs.
What I did?
I skimmed through the Network Extension documentation and this forum.
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/networkextension/content-filter-providers?language=objc
https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/692597
Thank you!
BR,
Markus
I have an app that tracks Wi-Fi and Cellular data usage. Many users want to see tracking per sim, and I can't find a way to achieve that. It seems like iOS reports data usage from every sim into pdp_ip0 interface.
Is there any place to look into?
I have a single ssid that I would like to connect users to, which I can do easily with the NetworkExtension api.
The only additional feature I want to add is being able to detect the availability of the ssid before connecting to it.
I have checked the forums and looked through things like the Hotspot Helper Docs.
From what I can tell, this just isn't possible. So, two questions I have:
Is this definitely impossible?
Any recommended alternatives for simulating this type of behavior?
Thanks!

Hi,
I'm adding a Content Filtering (FilterDataProvider) on macOS to an existing app and using MDM to avoid user interaction.
I start by pushing the following payloads to my machine:
com.apple.system-extension-policy
com.apple.webcontent-filter
And then installing notarized pkg containing my app and the NE.
Inspecting the system logs shows the following error:
neagent Failed to find a com.apple.networkextension.filter-data extension inside of app com.company_name.app_name.daemon
And calling
submit(request: .activationRequest(forExtensionWithIdentifier: bundleId, queue: queue))
results in:
Missing entitlement com.apple.developer.system-extension.install
Installing from Xcode on a SIP disabled machine works fine and both NE and CF are working as expected.
I followed the steps mentioned here https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/737894 however the embedded entitlements already contained -systemextension suffix so I'm not sure if re signing and the subsequent steps are needed.
I also double checked that com.apple.developer.system-extension.install is present, certificates are not expired and that get-task-allow is not present in the embedded profile.
Here is what my release entitlement file looks like:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">

</array>
<key>com.apple.security.application-groups</key>
<array>
<string>com.company_name.app_name.network-extension.content-filter</string>
</array>
</dict>
and my release app entitlement:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<key>com.apple.developer.system-extension.install</key>

</dict>

Hi everyone!
I'm developing a system where an application running in a VM communicates with the host operating system's components using vsock sockets (VZVirtioSocketDevice in Virtualization.framework). Both systems are running macOS. There may be multiple guests, and the existing implementation for other OSes relies on VM's CID to differentiate them.
In macOS, getting the CID from inside the guest VM is straightforward—it is returned by IOCTL_VM_SOCKETS_GET_LOCAL_CID.
However, in macOS the regular vsock API is not available on the host side, replaced by Virtualization.framework. I could not find anything in the Virtualization.framework's documentation that could be used to query (or set?) the CID for the specific virtual machine instance (which is certainly possible on other platforms utilizing Virtio drivers, e.g. Linux/QEMU). Am I overlooking something?
We have product for network monitoring and we are't able to add support auto-instrumenting the networking requests for URLSession async/wait methods as these methods are't exposed to dynamic environment or not exposed to ObjC and we con't use any of the run-time functionality and we con't override these methods as these methods are't public.
looking for a way to add some kind of logic so that when customers use our product they don't have to add any code from there end to monitor this system.
I want to configure one aspect of my networking configuration (the QUIC keepalive interval). This only seems to be configurable via Network.framework’s nw_quic_set_keepalive_interval. Is there any way to apply this to a URLSession? Or do I need to implement the whole connection management myself using Network.framework?
1、Does Captive Portal documentation for IOS exist for developers?
If so, please provide a link.
Hi everyone,
I’ve been working with the NEPacketTunnelProvider class and came across the cancelTunnelWithError() method. The documentation mentions its general purpose but doesn’t provide much clarity on how and when it should be called.
From what I’ve gathered in other forum posts, it seems that cancelTunnelWithError() should be called within my own implementation of the stopTunnel() method, but I’m not entirely sure if that’s the correct usage or whether there are specific scenarios where this applies.
Here are my specific questions:
Is it correct to always call cancelTunnelWithError() in my implementation of stopTunnel()?
Are there specific conditions or scenarios where cancelTunnelWithError() is the preferred way to terminate a tunnel session, rather than other termination methods?
What does the system do with the error that I pass to cancelTunnelWithError()? Does it have an impact on how the session termination is handled?
Are there best practices or common pitfalls to avoid when using cancelTunnelWithError()?
Any insights, examples, or guidance would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance for your help!

I've implemented a custom system extension VPN for macOS, using Packet Tunnel Provider.
I have a XPC connection, from the containing app to the (system) extension.
What is the expected behavior after the Mac's sleep/wake?
Will the same XPC remain valid? Should I start a new connection?
I developed a Content Filter using the Network Extension, and when deployed to a batch of hosts (50 +), the installation worked for most of them, but there were six exceptions: five of them were macOS 10.15 and one of them was macOS 12.5.
The phenomenon of these 6 hosts is: in the System Settings->Network, two content filters with the same name appear. When one of the content filters with the same name is clicked, shows "Please use 'X Agent Extension' to control this content filter configuration" ('X Agent Extension' is the program I developed, this content filter can be deleted by clicking the minus sign in the lower left corner). Click on another content filter with the same name, shows 'Please use 'null' to control this content filter configuration', (but this content filter can't be removed by clicking the minus sign in the bottom left corner).
These systems are clean, use CLI 'systemextensionsctl list', and have only one systemextension in the output (this systemextension is my content filter). Online reference "https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/how-to-delete-custom-dns-profile-from-network-preference.2293322/" this paper, by closing the SIP, and delete file '/Library/Preferences/com.apple.networkextension.plist', then restart the system can remove the abnormal content filters with the same name. After restarting the system and reinstalling my content filter, the two content filters with the same name disappear (only the Content Filter I reinstalled) and the exception scenario cannot be repeated.
I would like to know, why do I have two content filters with the same name, how can I avoid this phenomenon, is there a way to remove the wrong content filter without closing SIP.
