macOS 15.1 MFMailComposeViewController.canSendMail() returns false always
In my Catalyst app I use func setupMailComposer() { // Check if the device can send email guard MFMailComposeViewController.canSendMail() else { print("Mail services are not available") showMailErrorAlert() return } // Create and configure the mail composer let mailComposeVC = MFMailComposeViewController() mailComposeVC.mailComposeDelegate = self // Set the email details mailComposeVC.setToRecipients(["example@example.com"]) mailComposeVC.setSubject("Subject for your email") mailComposeVC.setMessageBody("This is the body of the email.", isHTML: false) // Attach a file (optional) if let filePath = Bundle.main.path(forResource: "example", ofType: "pdf"), let fileData = try? Data(contentsOf: URL(fileURLWithPath: filePath)) { mailComposeVC.addAttachmentData(fileData, mimeType: "application/pdf", fileName: "example.pdf") } // Present the mail composer self.present(mailComposeVC, animated: true, completion: nil) } Since I have updated to macOS 15.1 the canSendMail() function returns false although I have configured Apple Mail (like before in 15.0 where it worked flawlessly).

Methods for dealing with macOS Wallpaper Cache
Hello, Back in January 2024, I filed a bug report regarding a cache being kept by the macOS Wallpaper Agent. This cache contains every image ever set as a users wallpaper, and at the time the issue was reported, it never cleared, leaving hundreds of gigabytes wasted on users disks in some cases. FB13536275 This issue was ultimately fixed in macOS 15.1 beta 6, and remained fixed for the duration of macOS 15. The fix was excellent - the cache was reduced to storing just 2-3 days worth of images. Sadly, we've discovered that this issue is back in macOS Tahoe. The cache has moved locations, and once again is not clearing. We have filed this bug again, less than a year after it was first fixed: FB20636593 We develop an app called 24 Hour Wallpaper that keeps the wallpaper in sync with the time of day. This necessitates that the app regularly changes the wallpaper, which sadly now results in an infinitely growing and useless cache of BMP files generated by the system. As we waited 10 months for this to get fixed the first time, we expect to wait at least that long to get it fixed again, and have no confidence that it will stay fixed because the last fix lasted less than a year. This leaves us in a bad position, as people can't use our app without the cache growing arbitrarily and ultimately completely filling their disk. We've already had customers call Apple to complain about this, and the good news is that the support agents understand that this is a problem with macOS, not with our app. What we've decided to do is add a feature to the app that monitors the size of this cache and periodically deletes it. We're required to get the users permission the first time to do this, but after that the permission is cached, so the app can keep the cache folder clean regardless of if macOS is doing it's job or not. We haven't seen any side effects or problems as a result of doing this. We've seen other apps like CleanMyMac do this without any problems. We're wondering if there is anything we should be aware of regarding this caches behavior before releasing this flushing feature. Thanks for your time, -josh

Translation API & Download Language Sheet
Using Apple SwiftUI Translate library: when calling: try await session.prepareTranslation() the first time, the API's Language Download sheet does not show (or shows briefly and dismisses immediately) Even when the sheet doesn't show, the keyboard is lowered, as though the sheet would be appearing, but then the keyboard raises as though the sheet was dismissed. Device Activity Reports are returning a blank screen in release mode
There is an inconsistent issue when views are rendered from the Device Activity Report Extension. This issue is noticeable only on release versions and it works fine in debug mode. Around 80% of the times, the Report Views return blank screen and this is only the case when a weekly/monthly filter is used. Although, it works as expected for daily report views. My questions are: How are all the Report Activity Views working fine in debug mode but not in release mode? How the daily activity filter works fine in the release mode but the weekly/monthly filters don't work? Is this because of a memory limit issue in the extension? As of now, I have the family-controls(distribution) entitlement only for the app and for the extensions I only have family-controls(development) entitlement. Do I need to request for family-controls(Distribution) entitlement even for the extensions? I have seen threads on the forum mentioning the blank screen issue associated with the DeviceActivityReport but haven't found a solution to it. Any suggestions/feedback would be of great help, thanks.

Question about including all project classes in ofClasses parameter when using NSKeyedUnarchiver.unarchivedObject(ofClasses:from:)
Hello, I have a question about data deserialization using NSKeyedUnarchiver in iOS SDK development. Current Situation: Previously, we were using the NSKeyedUnarchiver.unarchiveObject(with: Data) function We have changed to using the NSKeyedUnarchiver.unarchivedObject(ofClasses:from:) method to deserialize complex objects stored in UserDefaults We need to include all types in the ofClasses parameter, including Swift primitive types as well as various custom classes and structs within the project Questions: Implementation Approach: Is it correct pattern to include all classes defined in the project in the ofClasses array? Is this approach recommended? Runtime Stability: When using this approach, is there a possibility of runtime crashes? Are there any performance issues? Alternative Methods: If the current approach is not the correct pattern, what alternatives should we consider? Current Code Structure: All model classes conform to the NSSecureCoding protocol We use the requiringSecureCoding: true parameter We use a whitelist approach, explicitly listing only allowed classes I would like to know if this structure is appropriate, or if we should consider a different approach. Thank you.

How to Set Up Deferred Deep Linking
I have universal links configured for my iOS app which work as expected when the app is installed. When the app is not installed the universal link will go to the browser as expected. What I want to do is redirect to the app store, allow the user to install the app, then redirect them to the initial universal link. Redirecting them to the app store isn't the hard part I can achieve that from the webpage, however I don't know how to save a reference to that initial link to redirect them once they instal the app. What I want the flow to be for a user who doesn't have the app is: visit a universal link (example.com/UUID) redirect to the app store and install the app open the app and redirect to example.com/UUID I've seen some ways people are doing this with the clipboard but I don't love that solution, I also don't want to use a 3rd party service if I can avoid it - how are the 3rd party services making this happen?

AlarmKit Not Playing Custom Sound or Named System Sounds - iOS 26 beta 4 (23A5297i)
I'm using the new AlarmKit framework to schedule and trigger alarms in my Swift app in iOS 26 beta 4 (23A5297i). I'm trying to customize the alarm sound using a sound file embedded in the app bundle or by referencing known system tones. Problem: No matter what I pass to .named("sound-2"), whether a file bundle url, .named("sound-2.caf"), tried .mp3, .caf & .aiff, or a known iOS system sound like .named("Radar") ("Chimes", etc.), the alarm always plays the default system alert tone. There's no error or warning, but the custom or specified sound is silently ignored. sound: .named("sound-2") Question: What is the correct method or approach to play custom sound / music when Alarm Triggers? What .named("...") expects file name, file Path URL or System sound name? Is there any specific audio file length accepted or specific format? Challenge: The alarm functionality feels incomplete without support for custom sounds. A single default alert tone is often not sufficient to wake up users effectively. Hope it will be fixed in the next iOS updates.

ExtensionFoundation on iOS 26
Hi, I'm trying to add an extension to my app on iOS 26. I've followed the instructions on https://developer.apple.com/documentation/extensionfoundation/adding-support-for-app-extensions-to-your-app and made it as far as being able to launch the extension: let monitor = try await AppExtensionPoint.Monitor(appExtensionPoint: .localWebServerExtension) currentIdentity = monitor.identities.first if let currentIdentity = currentIdentity { let myConfig = AppExtensionProcess.Configuration(appExtensionIdentity: currentIdentity, onInterruption: { NSLog("extension was terminated") }) myProcess = try await AppExtensionProcess(configuration: myConfig) myConnection = try myProcess?.makeXPCConnection() } None of these calls throw, and when I examine myProcess from inside that code, it seems to be normal (there's a pid, for example). Yet the code inside my extension seems to not be executed: breakpoints are not triggered, NSLog() calls do not appear on the console. The onInterruption() callback is also not triggered, or at least it does not appear on the console either. I've probably missed something obvious, but what could it be?

About AppShortcuts limit
I developed a shortcut feature for my app using the AppIntents framework, which can display a maximum of 10 shortcuts in the Shortcuts app. However, I've noticed that apps like Tesla and Porsche have a significantly larger number of shortcuts, far exceeding 10. After searching online, I found that they might be using Intent Extensions and the SiriKit framework. I customized an Intent through SiriKit, checked the option for "Intent is user-configurable in the Shortcuts app" and "Add to Siri." I can find this shortcut when I search for it, but it does not appear on the homepage or under the app category. Is there any way to resolve this?

Pushkit/Callkit with unlocked SIM before first unlock
We have a problem in a scenario that SIM lock is disabled so after a phone reboots it has the Internet connection but it is still locked. When you call into the VOIP app the app is not being launched as the result (it seems reasonable because it wouldn't be able to access the keychain items etc...) but the OS still seem to enforce the rule that the app needs to report the new incoming call. When we then unlock the app we can see no more pushkit pushes are arriving (dropped on the floor in the console) but we get the three initial pushes that were send during the locked phase right after the app launch.

Issue regarding universal links
Hello, we are experiencing an issue that is not systematic regarding universal links on our application. In some cases, after the application is installed, the universal links do not open the application but instead open in Safari. We have conducted tests on several devices and with the same link. In some cases, the links open the application after installation, and in other cases, they open in Safari. I should mention that in all test cases, we did not force the opening via the menu accessible through a long press on the link. We performed sysdiagnose in the different cases and we observed the same configuration for the universal links in the swcutil_show.txt file: User Approval: unspecified Site/Fmwk Approval: approved At this stage, I do not think the problem comes from our application or the configuration of the apple-app-site-association file. Is this a known issue? Is there anything we can do on our side to work around it ?

How does Numbers.app detect that a document was moved to Recently Deleted, and can third-party apps implement the same behavior?
The Numbers.app reopens the last edited document when the app launches. If the document was moved to another folder in the Files.app while the app was not running, Numbers.app correctly tracks the file and reopens it. However, if the document was deleted in the Files.app and moved to Recently Deleted, Numbers.app does not reopen the document when the app launches. Question : How does Numbers.app detect that a document has been moved to Recently Deleted? Can third-party apps implement the same behavior? What I tested : If a file is moved while the app is not running, resolving a bookmark successfully tracks the moved file. Files that are deleted via the Files.app appear in Recently Deleted, but those files are actually moved to the following directories: iCloud Drive /var/mobile/Library/Mobile Documents/.Trash/ On My iPad /var/mobile/Containers/Shared/AppGroup/{UUID}/File Provider Storage/.Trash/ App sandbox Documents directory ([On My iPad]/[Any App]) /var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/{UUID}/Documents/.Trash/ When resolving the bookmark after deletion, the bookmark still resolves successfully and returns the new file URL inside the .Trash directory. I tried the following checks on the resolved URL: Checking file existence Checking read/write accessibility Inspecting bookmark resolution results Using APIs related to NSTrashDirectory See https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/813329#813329021 All of these behaved the same as when the file was moved to a normal directory. None of these checks allowed me to detect that the file had been deleted. Additional experiment: I suspected that the app might simply check whether the path contains ".Trash", so I performed the following experiment. If a .numbers file is moved to /var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/{UUID}/Documents/.Trash/ then The file appears in Recently Deleted in Files.app Numbers.app does not reopen the document when the app launches However, if the same file is moved to Documents/Trash Documents/.Trashed Documents/Any Folder/.Trash then The file does not appear in Recently Deleted in Files Numbers does reopen the document when launched This suggests that Numbers.app is not simply checking whether the path contains ".Trash".

DeviceActivityReportExtension sandbox blocks all output channels — how to export resolved Application.bundleIdentifier?
DeviceActivityReportExtension sandbox blocks all output channels — how to export resolved Application.bundleIdentifier? Application.bundleIdentifier only resolves to a non-nil value inside a DeviceActivityReportExtension (ExtensionKit/XPC). The main app and DeviceActivityMonitor extension always return nil. However, the Report Extension's sandbox silently blocks every output channel I've tested: UserDefaults (App Group): Reads succeed, writes silently dropped File writes (App Group container): Fail silently or throw HTTP requests: Network blocked entirely Local Notifications: "Couldn't communicate with a helper application" UIPasteboard: Writes silently fail iCloud KVS: synchronize() returns false Both targets share the same com.apple.security.application-groups entitlement and group identifier. The main app reads and writes to the shared container normally — only the extension's writes fail. This means resolved bundle identifiers can only be rendered in the extension's own SwiftUI view and cannot be communicated anywhere else. My question: Is this sandbox restriction intentional? If so, what is the recommended mechanism for the host app (or a backend) to obtain the resolved bundle identifiers that only the Report Extension can access? Environment: Xcode 16.3, iOS 18.3, physical device. Sample project: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DPyN2BCUt5p-RKEPA0zsDFFEvgZVHlS_/view?usp=sharing — a minimal two-target project that demonstrates every failing channel. Run on a physical device, grant Screen Time access, select apps, and observe that bundle ID resolution shows PASS but all write channels show FAIL.

Weird DateFormatter behavior
I am seeing a weird behavior of the date formatter (Full code is below). When run, this will give the following output: 57: 1 month, 3 weeks, 5 days 58: 1 month, 3 weeks, 6 days 59: 2 months 60: 2 months, 1 day 61: 2 months 62: 2 months, 1 day 63: 2 months, 2 days So both 59 days and 61 days are 2 months, and both 60 and 62 days are 2 months and 1 day. This of course is especially weird because this means, 2 months also comes after 2 months and a day. Can someone explain to me what is going on here? import Foundation let formatter = DateComponentsFormatter() formatter.unitsStyle = .full let calendar = Calendar(identifier: .gregorian) let today = calendar.date(from: DateComponents(year: 2025, month: 7, day: 26))! for day in 57...63 { let startDate = calendar.date(byAdding: .day, value: -day, to: today)! let components = calendar.dateComponents([.day, .weekOfMonth, .month,. year], from: startDate, to: today) let result = formatter.string(from: components)! print ("\(String(format: "%3d", day)): \(result)") }

Scheduled events reach threshold almost immediately on iOS 26.2
Hi, we are developing a screen time management app. The app locks the device after it was used for specified amount of time. After updating to iOS 26.2, we noticed a huge issue: the events started to fire (reach the threshold) in the DeviceActivityMonitorExtension prematurely, almost immediately after scheduling. The only solution we've found is to delete the app and reboot the device, but the effect is not lasting long and this does not always help. Before updating to iOS 26, events also used to sometimes fire prematurely, but rescheduling the event often helped. Now the rescheduling happens almost every second and the events keep reaching the threshold prematurely. Can you suggest any workarounds for this issue?

I am seeing a weird behavior of the date formatter (Full code is below). When run, this will give the following output: 57: 1 month, 3 weeks, 5 days 58: 1 month, 3 weeks, 6 days 59: 2 months 60: 2 months, 1 day 61: 2 months 62: 2 months, 1 day 63: 2 months, 2 days So both 59 days and 61 days are 2 months, and both 60 and 62 days are 2 months and 1 day. This of course is especially weird because this means, 2 months also comes after 2 months and a day. Can someone explain to me what is going on here? import Foundation let formatter = DateComponentsFormatter() formatter.unitsStyle = .full let calendar = Calendar(identifier: .gregorian) let today = calendar.date(from: DateComponents(year: 2025, month: 7, day: 26))! for day in 57...63 { let startDate = calendar.date(byAdding: .day, value: -day, to: today)! let components = calendar.dateComponents([.day, .weekOfMonth, .month,. year], from: startDate, to: today) let result = formatter.string(from: components)! print ("\(String(format: "%3d", day)): \(result)") }
