I'm using ScreenCaptureKit on macOS 14+ to record a single window. I've noticed that the Presenter Overlay only appears when capturing the entire screen, but it does not appear when recording a specific window or a region.
Is there a way to enable the Presenter Overlay while recording a single window or a defined region, similar to how it works with full-screen capture?
Any guidance or clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone,
We're using the react-native-device-activity package to implement app blocking via Apple's Screen Time API. The blocking functionality works well: when the user selects apps and taps "Done," those apps get blocked as expected.
However, we're facing an issue with unblocking apps that the user later unselects. Even after the user unchecks some apps and taps "Done" again, those previously selected (now unselected) apps remain blocked and still show the shield.

Is it possible for an app to block itself using ManagedSettingsStore() — for example, by applying an application category restriction or setting a specific block on its own bundle ID?
If so, what strategies or best practices are recommended to avoid accidentally blocking the app itself while applying restrictions to other apps or categories?
I haven’t found any official documentation confirming whether the system prevents self-blocking automatically or if this is something developers need to manage explicitly.

I’m developing an iOS app that requires access to the user’s contacts. I understand that starting from iOS 14, Apple introduced two levels of contact permissions:
1️⃣ Full Access – The app can read all contacts.
2️⃣ Limited Access – The app can only access contacts selected by the user.
My Question:
If a user initially grants Limited Access, is it allowed by Apple’s guidelines to request Full Access later?
🔹 I understand that re-requesting permission immediately after the user denies it is against Apple’s policies.
🔹 However, if the user has already granted Limited Access, and we first show an explanation modal explaining why Full Access is beneficial, can we then prompt them to change their settings via openAppSettings()?
🔹 Alternatively, can we use Permission.contacts.request() again to re-prompt the user for Full Access, or will iOS prevent the permission prompt from appearing again?
How We Handle This in the App:
1️⃣ If a user selects Limited Access, we respect their choice and only access their selected contacts.
2️⃣ Later, if Full Access is necessary for an enhanced experience, we display a clear explanation modal explaining why the app needs Full Access.
3️⃣ If the user agrees, we attempt to guide them to openAppSettings(), allowing them to manually change the permission.
4️⃣ However, if Permission.contacts.request() can be used to directly request Full Access again, we would like to know if this is acceptable.
We want to ensure that our implementation follows Apple’s privacy guidelines while providing the best user experience.
Any official guidance or best practices on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

So I have been working with the screen time api. however I still cant get it to work to reshield certain apps after a certain time because for example Dispatch Queue just gets terminated after a certain time.
This is my code right now but the reshielding doesn't get called. Please help I have been working on this since weeks and weeks.

I'm writing an app that uses text to speech. On the physical Iphone 12 it works but on the simulator I don't get any speech from my app.
I tried the following to enable.
Settings -> Accessebility -> "Spoken Content" -> "Speak Selecton" to ON (green)
in Voices I added the German Anna that I use on my Iphone with the downloaded enhancements.
The speech test works in this menu but not in my app. What am I missing ?

I'm working with the Apple Watch's acceleration data and have referred to the document Identify the coordinate axes of the device. According to this document, the X-axis points to the right side of the watch, the Y-axis points towards the top side, and the Z-axis points towards the user.
However, when I place the watch on a flat surface and move it horizontally to the right, I observe that the X-axis acceleration is negative. Similarly, when I move the watch vertically upwards, the Y-axis acceleration also shows a negative value.
Is this expected behavior, or am I misunderstanding something about the coordinate system or acceleration readings?
I am able to block apps using FamilyControl and Shield. Unblocking is also simple—just assign nil to store.shield.applications. However, I want to unblock them even when the app is not open.
Use case: Let's say the app allows users to create a session where a particular app is blocked for a specific duration. Once the session starts, the app should remain blocked, and as soon as the session time ends, it should automatically be unblocked.

We just dropped support for iOS 16 in our app and migrated to the new properties on Locale to extract the language code, region, and script. However, after doing this we are seeing an issue where the script property is returning a value when the language has no script.
Here is the initializer that we are using to populate the values. The identifier is coming from the preferredLanguages property that is found on Locale.

Whenever I inspect locale.language I see all of the correct values. However, when I inspect locale.language.script directly it is always returning Latn as the value. If I inspect the deprecated locale.scriptCode property it will return nil as expected.
Here is an example from the debugger for en-AU. I also see the same for other languages such as en-AE, pt-BR.
Since the language components show the script as nil, then I would expect locale.language.script?.identifier to also return nil.
I have been using the hourly weather forecast API, for some reason sometimes the API fails with 400 Bad Request, but on retrying just a minute later the call successfully returns data. The start and end time are 2 days apart so I don't think it's an issue with the time frame.
The failed calls also don't return any reason so not sure what is the exact failure.
Has anyone encountered this issue or knows why this might be happening??

We had a question that came up when we comparing data from WeatherKit to other sources - WeatherKit visibility was well beyond the boundaries we had historically, even from Darksky. That raises two questions:
is visibility actually in meters like the docs say?
is this visibility at ground level, 500ft, or some other height?
We were seeing visibility numbers of up to 40 miles (after converting the number the API sent to miles), where all of our other sources are usually within 10 miles
How to uninstall/delete Voice Control on macOS so that I can test my app for the case when the initial use of Voice Control causes it to be downloaded from Apple? Is there a folder in the macOS System or Library to delete to force a re-download of Voice Control?
My macOS app uses the older NSSpeechRecognizer to handle speech commands, but to use NSSpeechRecognizer required authorization via [SFSpeechRecognizer requestAuthorization...]. I do this and on a macOS system it can trigger a download of Voice Control, the macOS feature. An alert appears with:
"A 390 MB download is required to use speech recognition features in MyApp. You may need to quit and open MyApp again after download completes."
We are planning to use our internal IdP (PingFederate) for authentication of end users in their iOS apps using ASWebAuthenticationSession. Initial tests are successful, but the user is prompted for every login (and logouts) with a consent dialogue box:

Let’s say that our top-level domain is “company.no”, where our IdP is placed at “idp.company.com”. I have seen examples where the Associated domains entitlement points to the idp as a webserver for serving the JSON output AASA file. In this case that would be:

Our problem is that trying to use the IdP as webserver for this purpose is that it is very complicated to modify the IdP’s webserver configuration. Also, this modification needs to be re-done every time we need to upgrade the IdP.
My question is therefore also related to the options of which webserver to install the AASA file on. Has anyone installed the file on a generic webserver on the toplevel domain like
“webserver.company.com” ?
Hi, I work at OneSignal, a third-party SDK, and have the following two crash reports submitted by a client for the same issue. Because the crash originates from our SDK, even if the root cause may be elsewhere, the onus is on our team to try to resolve this crash. Additionally, my information is limited as this is not our own crash report.
I'm trying to figure out why this crash happens and how we can address it within our SDK.

Context:
Our SDK makes a call to [NSUserDefaults(NSUserDefaults) objectForKey:] on the standardUserDefaults and passes in a non-null key. It appears further up the call stack, a null value is being added to a dictionary. I assume this is the innards of how the search list is generated.
Additional Information:
The client states that it seems to happen only once per user and the scale is not extremely high but it is increasing. They are unsure what happened and when. They don't have much information about the devices except it has happened on iOS 18.

We’re encountering a device-specific issue with our SMS Message Filter extension. The extension works as expected on an iPhone 11 running iOS 16.6, but it does not trigger on an iPhone 12 Pro running iOS 16.7.
Key Observations:
The extension is implemented using ILMessageFilterExtension and calls messageFilterOffline(appGroupIdentifier:for:) from our shared library.
The App Group is properly configured and accessible across the app and extension.
The extension is enabled under Settings > Messages > Unknown & Spam.
There are no crashes or error logs reported on the affected device.
The issue is consistently reproducible — it works on one device but not the other.
We’re wondering if this could be a regression or a device-specific behavior change introduced in iOS 16.7.
Has anyone encountered similar inconsistencies in Message Filter extensions across different iOS versions or device models?
Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Am showing daily screen-time of a user in my app in Device Activity Report Extension. The only way to get that is to sum up all the activityDuration of apps/categories/domains. But it differs a lot from phone's settings screen-time, why?
I have debugged in details and counted manually the time spent on each app and it turned out that the calculation is appearing correctly in my app but Phone settings showing quite less time on top (Day).
I'm sitting at my house and trying to sign my test device out of my apple ID so I can sign into a Sandbox user, but now I have an hour to kill because of this terribly broken "security" feature that thinks it's in an unfamiliar location, despite being at the only location it's ever known. Looks like I'll just be disabling this feature all together.
Especially as a device with Developer Mode enabled, which gets reset regularly, there should be additional options here. Come on!
I am trying to return a SceneView from a DeviceActivityReport. I have my DeviceActivityReportExtension correctly set up and I am able to display a view with text or other UI elements in it, but attempting to return a SceneView as part of the body just won't display. I have this example. When I display this SceneView in my main app, it displays correctly. When I put the same code inside the DeviceActivityReportExtension, the scene does not show up and an error failed to create a gl context appears repeatedly in the console. I'm pretty stumped and would appreciate any suggestions.

I would like to ask if there is any possibility to invoke the Apple Sysdiagnose via an API call. I cannot find any API reference for Sysdiagnose.
I am aware only about the manually invocation. https://it-training.apple.com/tutorials/support/sup075/
However, this is pretty annoying since a reproduction of a hunted bug takes several hours, so I am looking for the way how to invoke Sysdiagnose from our code.
After transferring the App ownership to a different account, if you update the app on iOS, two identical apps will show up in Settings > Screen Time. Users can't control the blocking settings from before the update - the only fix is to restart the phone.
After the next execution of manageStore.shield.applications, users still can't manually disable the restrictions - their only option is to uninstall and reinstall the app. I believe this is related to how Screen Time API's authentication works - it's not just tied to the app's bundle ID, but also linked to the developer account's organization ID. Any suggestions for a clean solution that would allow smooth app updates after the transfer without running into these issues?
