Long running data BLE data syncing in the background
I am working on a Flutter application which is use solely to collect data from a bluetooth low energy (BLE) peripheral and then upload the data to our cloud. The application runs in the background 99% of the time after the initial login and BLE pairing which is causing us some issues. After the Application is backgrounded it would work for a day to 2 days and then stop working. (What I mean with working is to download data from the BLE peripheral and then upload the data to our cloud). Once the data syncing has stopped it would take up to 12 hours until data starts flowing again. I have read in a couple of places that iOS implements some sort of "budget/heuristics" when the application is running in the background to keep track of the application and when this "budget" is used up iOS will stop servicing the application until iOS decides that the application can run in the background again. My question, is it possible via a enablement or some other mechanism to prevent iOS from blocking our application from running in the background to enable 24/7 periodic data uploads every 30 minutes. We have implemented the following so far; The data sync process is triggered from the BLE peripheral using a notification. This notification is sent every 30 minutes. Each sync duration is currently 24 seconds on average, we are working on reducing this to below 10 seconds. We implemented State Restoration to assist iOS in starting the application more efficiently. We are considering using Silent Push Notifications from the Cloud to wake up the application when data hasn't synced in 6 hours. Any assistance would be high appreciated.

Alarms scheduled using AlarmKit is not reliable
The alarms that I am scheduling using alarmKit is not reliable at all, especially in beta 8 (Used to have this issue in previous betas, But they were inconsistent). The alarm fires anywhere after 5 mins to 45 mins from the actual scheduled time. I'll share the relevant code block here in case if it is me who is doing something wrong. This code block doesn't throw any errors and I am also able to see the scheduled alarms when I query them. The issue is with alarms not firing on the specified time let alert = AlarmPresentation.Alert( title: "Wakey Wakey!", stopButton: .init(text: "stop", textColor: .red, systemImageName: "stop.fill") ) let presentation = AlarmPresentation(alert: alert) let attributes = AlarmAttributes<CountDownAttribute>( presentation: presentation, metadata: .init(), tintColor: .orange ) let schedule = Alarm.Schedule.fixed(alarmTime) let config = AlarmManager.AlarmConfiguration( schedule: schedule, attributes: attributes ) let id = UUID() do { let alarm = try await AlarmManager.shared.schedule(id: id, configuration: config) print("Alarm set successfully for \(alarmTime) - \(alarm)") } catch { print("Failed to schedule alarm: \(error)") }

Device Activity Reports are returning a blank screen in release mode
There is an inconsistent issue when views are rendered from the Device Activity Report Extension. This issue is noticeable only on release versions and it works fine in debug mode. Around 80% of the times, the Report Views return blank screen and this is only the case when a weekly/monthly filter is used. Although, it works as expected for daily report views. My questions are: How are all the Report Activity Views working fine in debug mode but not in release mode? How the daily activity filter works fine in the release mode but the weekly/monthly filters don't work? Is this because of a memory limit issue in the extension? As of now, I have the family-controls(distribution) entitlement only for the app and for the extensions I only have family-controls(development) entitlement. Do I need to request for family-controls(Distribution) entitlement even for the extensions? I have seen threads on the forum mentioning the blank screen issue associated with the DeviceActivityReport but haven't found a solution to it. Any suggestions/feedback would be of great help, thanks.

App Crashing iOS26
I have four apps currently deployed on the App Store. One of these apps crashes on launch when running on iOS 26, but functions as expected on iOS 18 and earlier versions. I am seeking to understand what changes in iOS 26 might be causing this issue. When running the app in debug mode on devices with iOS 26 using Xcode 16.1, the app crashes. The crash log references libobjc-trampolines.dylib, suggesting a potential issue with the Objective-C runtime. Has anyone else encountered a similar issue? AGX: AGX: agxa_device_template.hpp:1467:setupCompiler: *** FATAL: driver shader binary file not found in (null) for extension g15p!!! Thank you for your assistance.

What are causes of networkURLUnauthorized in a message filter extension
I'm getting ILMessageFilterError.networkURLUnauthorized returned in a message filter extension when calling deferQueryRequestToServer(). Googling for people who have had the same error, they didn't include the associated domain in the containing app. However I have added that. The server is set up at https://something.com:443, it has an apple association file located at https://something.com:443/.well-known/apple-app-site-association I have added associated domains to the app and the app extension of: messagefilter:something.com?mode=developer webcredentials:something.com?mode=developer Side question 1: are both needed or just the messagefilter? Side question 2: should the domain include the port :443? The server isn't publicly hosted hence I've appended ?mode=developer on the end as per the documentation. The extension's info.plist has ILMessageFilterExtensionNetworkURL added as something.com Question 3: Does this need the port adding too? With everything set up according to the documentation, apart from the questions above, what might be the cause of getting networkURLUnauthorized returned?

SetFocusFilterIntent `perform()` method is not called on iOS 18 beta
I’ve set up a focus filter, but the perform() method in SetFocusFilterIntent isn't called when the focus mode is toggled on or off on my iPhone since I updated to iOS 18 beta (22A5326f). I can reproduce the issue for my app, but focus filters are also broken for any third-party apps installed on my phone, so I guess it's not specific to how I've implemented my filter intent. This used to work perfectly on iOS 17. I didn't change a single line of code, and it broke completely on the latest iOS 18 beta. I've filed a bug report including a sysdiagnose (FB14715113). To the developers out there, is this something you are also observing in your apps?

Need to check Call Status without using CallKit
My app requirement is to check that User is on call while doing transaction. If user on call then we need to show Caution alert. For this requirement we used CallKit to detect Call status and it's working fine but recently Apple has rejected the application because of Callkit that is banned in China. Could you please provide any solution to check the Call Status only.

Open UIViewController when QR Code is scanned
Hi developers, I have a question if it is possible to open in my application not main window but a specific ViewController, when application is installed but not running. When the application is running in background and I scan QR code, then specific ViewController is opened over SceneDelegate and method 'userActivity'. But this does not work when the application is only installed, but not running. The Appstore link is here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/don%C3%A1tor/id6473955033

CallDirectoryExtention - How to remove a phone number entry that has already been added if a specific value is retrieved.
The App has the ability to use WebKit and display web pages and the ability to add phone numbers to CallDirectory at specific timing. In this App, when the App is launched or when the Add Contact button on the web page is pressed, CallDirectoryExtention is reloaded from the host app (WebKit-viewController), the phone number is retrieved from the server, and the entry is updated. I would like to add a process to remove the already added phone number entry when a specific value is retrieved from the application server. The specific process we wish to implement is as follows. Step 1: Use URLsession to retrieve values from the application server. (ViewController) Step 2: If the value is a specific value, call a Function that deletes the CallDirectoryExtention entry. (ViewController) Step 3: Delete all entries for the registered phone numbers.
However, I am aware that I have to use reloadExtension() to call the CallDirectoryExtention process from ViewController on Step2. if I do so, CallDirectoryHandler.beginRequest() will be processed, and I am wondering if it is not possible to execute only the Function that deletes the entry. Is there a way to run only the Function that deletes the CallDirectoryExtention entry from the host app(viewController)?

3rd-party closed-source XCFramework security
Hey! I am developing a macOS application with the help of an external vendor, who is supplying me with a closed-source XCFramework. In Xcode, when I import their XCFramework bundle, when running the app, or opening a SwiftUI preview, or interacting with the app in any form, I get the familiar dialog: "[SDK name].framework" Not Opened - Apple could not verify "[SDK name].framework" is free from malware that may harm your Mac or compromise privacy. (Regardless, the application can run on my machine.) But indeed, their cross-platform iOS/macOS XCFramework is not notarized at all (using spctl -a -t install), plus the macOS binary embedded is not code signed correctly (using codesign -d). The XCFramework itself is production code signed with a Developer ID certificate, however I believed the above issues to be valid. Now, I asked the vendor to provide a correctly distributed (so code signed and notarized) framework, however they pointed out that "when I embed and sign the product in my app, it will be re-signed anyways". I understand this is true, but I believe this to be an important security boundary. If I were to re-sign under my name a closed source binary - previously unchecked for malware by Apple Notary Service -, I would put myself up for embedding potentially malicious code in my app, which could only be traced back to me - which would in turn mean a security issue would hinder my reputation here. Am I being over-protective here, or is this a valid concern? I have no way to see the source code, so I strongly believe this XCFramework should be notarized correctly. I understand that an in-house XCFramework is fine unnotarized, given that I know its origin, but this seems like a unique case where notarization should be enforced from my side on the vendor.

ContactProviderManager Fails with Custom domainIdentifier, Works Only with "defaultDomain"
Has anyone encountered a situation like mine below? I’ve submitted feedback, but it seems like I’ll have to wait for a while. ContactProviderManager Fails with Custom domainIdentifier, Works Only with "defaultDomain" Category: Developer Tools / Frameworks Subcategory: ContactProvider Framework Reproducibility: Always iOS Version: iOS 18.0 (and later) Xcode Version: Xcode 16.0 (or later)  Description: When initializing a ContactProviderManager with a custom ContactProviderDomain using any identifier other than "defaultDomain", the initializer throws a ContactProviderError.domainNotRegistered error. The documentation for ContactProviderDomain (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/contactprovider/contactproviderdomain) does not provide any method to register custom identifiers, making it impossible to use ContactProviderManager with a desired custom identifier. The only successful case is when the identifier is "defaultDomain". print("Error: (error)") // No error, initialization succeeds Steps to Reproduce: Create a Contact Provider Extension in an iOS app targeting iOS 18.0. In host app, Attempt to initialize a ContactProviderManager with a custom ContactProviderDomain identifier: import ContactProvider func enableExtensionExample() async {    do {        // The app creates a contact provider manager with custom domain.        let manager =  try ContactProviderManager(domainIdentifier: "com.mycompany.customdomain")               // May prompt the person to enable the custom domain.        try await manager.enable()    } catch {       print("Error: \(error)") // Prints ContactProviderError.domainNotRegistered    } } Try the same with the default identifier: import ContactProvider func enableExtensionExample() async {    do {        // The app creates a contact provider manager with a default domain.        let manager =  try ContactProviderManager(domainIdentifier: "defaultDomain")               // May prompt the person to enable the default domain.        try await manager.enable()    } catch {       print("Error: \(error)") // No error, initialization succeeds    } } Build and run the app on a device or simulator running iOS 18.0 or later. Observe that the initializer fails with domainNotRegistered for any identifier other than "defaultDomain". Expected Behavior: The ContactProviderManager should initialize successfully with any valid ContactProviderDomain identifier, provided the domain is properly configured or registered, allowing developers to use custom identifiers for organizing contacts (e.g., for different categories or sources). Actual Behavior: The ContactProviderManager initializer throws ContactProviderError.domainNotRegistered for any ContactProviderDomain identifier other than "defaultDomain". Only the "defaultDomain" identifier succeeds, limiting the ability to use custom domains. Impact: Developers cannot use custom identifiers to categorize or manage contacts in separate domains, restricting the ContactProvider framework’s flexibility. This forces reliance on the "defaultDomain" identifier, which may not suit use cases requiring distinct contact groups (e.g., personal vs. business contacts). Suggested Fix: Provide an API to register custom ContactProviderDomain identifiers, such as a ContactProviderManager.register(domain:) method. Update the ContactProviderDomain and ContactProviderManager documentation to clarify how to use custom identifiers or explicitly state if only "defaultDomain" is supported. If custom identifiers are not intended to be supported, document this limitation clearly to avoid developer confusion. Feedback : FB20104001 (ContactProviderManager Fails with Custom domainIdentifier, Works Only with "defaultDomain")

Is MetricKit automatically on all devices?
Hello Apple, I am trying to get information such as crash context whenever a user encounters a situation where the app is killed. I was wondering if the tool MetricKit is available to all users or is this a feature to those who has opted into it. I am aware that the whenever someone gets a new device or in settings, an option will appear that'll have users decide whether or not to have Apple receive data analytics during certain events on their device. Does this have any effect on whether some users may not have MetricKit? Overall, we are attempting to use MetricKit to better analyze performance of our app. It would be inefficient for us, if the population of users using MetricKit is only those who have opted into it. Thanks, dmaliro

How to debug Quick Look Preview Extension
When I launch the Quick Look Preview Extension target in Xcode, an app called Quick Look Simulator opens with an almost empty window: Online I read that the Terminal command qlmanage allows to test Quick Look plugins (which I think were an older format for creating Quick Look extensions), but running qlmanage -p /path/to/previewed/file -c public.text -g /path/to/QuickLookPreviewExtension.appex (where QuickLookPreviewExtension.appex is generated by the Xcode build and is located in the DerivedData folder) gives an error Can't get generator at QuickLookPreviewExtension.appex How can I debug a Quick Look Preview Extension?

KVO crashes in older OS-Versions not replicable in Sequoia
Greetings, With MacOS 15 Sequoia, Apple updated key-value-observations in such a way, that an unremoved observation by a now deallocated object will no longer cause an exception, when the observed object triggers said observation. While this is fundamentally a positive change, the issue comes with the fact, that this change affects systems based on the version of their operating system and not the version of the operating system of the build system. Many of our customers use old operating system versions and old hardware - meaning they can't easily update. Since we need to use up to date Xcode versions to develop for newer systems, our developers tend to have rather new OS versions. This means, that we are increasingly facing bugs which only happen in customer systems but not in most developer (or QA) systems. Currently, we still can use earlier OS versions with Xcode to fix these bugs, but once the used Xcode versions no longer support MacOS 14 or below this will become a major hurdle. Are there known solutions to this issue? We are currently attempting to swizzle observer adding and removal in order to fix the problem for old systems as well, but this has proven to be quite difficult and unstable. Since any weakly held property in the middle of an observation keypath can cause crashes, one would have to split up observations into multiple subobservations, which is less simple than it sounds, due to custom implementations of addObserver (such as there seems to be in array controller proxies) and collection operators. Thanks for any suggestions!

Video button on CallKit UI is disabled for Video VoIP call, only on notch devices.
We've observed an issue where the video button on the CallKit UI is disabled during Video VoIP calls. This issue appears to be specific to notch devices running SDK 26 and iOS 26 beta 7, specifically on iPhone 11. We have not seen this behavior on devices with Dynamic Island or on older iOS versions. For further details, please refer to the attached video and sysdiagnose file. : FB19827793 Our experimentation suggests this issue is exclusively present on non-Dynamic Island devices with iOS 26 beta.

Screen sharing application - URGENT question
There are different kinds of screen-sharing applications, all using different APIs. The API used by AnyDesk, for example, or TeamViewer, which doesn't require light signals. I wonder if this is more appropriate for a corporate application, i.e. MDM, A screen-sharing application could be created and validated by Apple to display no light signals, and which could access the user's screen whenever the person wanted to after an initial acceptance? In other words, the user accepts to share his screen once, but won't be notified to accept the next time. Or is this impossible on iOS? I'd be honored to have some answers

How to whitelist Apple to access AASA file?
We have implemented Universal Links for iOS. We have deployed the following file as per the documentation: /.well-known/apple-app-site-association Everything works fine until my organization applied domain-level block on traffic out side my country. We need to whitelist Apple servers but we cannot find their IPs or domains used to access this file.
