Hi, I have an app that uses WKWebView and it's crashing on iOS 26 Simulator in places I've never had problems before. In this case it's crashing when calling WKWebView.callAsyncJavaScript, but in my other project WKWebView is crashing with some sort of EXC_BAD_ACCESS other than callAsyncJavaScript. As with the adoption of MV3 standards among all major browser vendors that allow browser extensions at the client-side, I understand that this is the same with Safari as well, as mentioned here (https://www.wwdcnotes.com/notes/wwdc22/10099/). However, as with Firefox, browsers may choose to adopt them incompletely and with few changes. I had a few questions regarding how Safari views this transition and what would be the next steps from here. Thus, it would be really great if the browser team could provide your insights on any or all of the following points: Would Safari adopt the exact standards proposed by the Chromium ecosystem such as with functionalities like header-based modifications in the coming days.  What would be the general timeline be for this in general?  Does this also translate to the fact that existing standards with MV2 standards would not be allowed to operate any further, as with the timeline with Chromium? Up until some point relatively recently, I have been able to use Safari's web inspector to connect to the iOS simulator in order to debug our web application in development at http://localhost:8088. Now, the web inspector still OPENS, but it opens in a broken state. The context is available to select from Safari's "Develop" menu: Develop > "iPhone 16 Pro (Simulator)" > "localhost - login". It appears under the Safari heading if I have navigated to the web app in the browser, or under the Expo heading if I am accessing it through the webview in our React Native wrapper app. When I select it, the web inspector window does appear. However, once it opens, the Elements pane is empty, the Console pane is empty, expressions entered into the console are not evaluated, there's no content in Sources, Network, Storage, etc. Important notes: This broken state happens at http://localhost:8088 as well as http://127.0.0.1:8088, and it seems that the insecure context is the issue. The web inspector DOES work for HTTPS sites. If I navigate to, e.g., https://example.com in the simulator and connect the web inspector, everything works fine. The web inspector also works fine in Safari on macOS (OUTSIDE the simulator) when accessing non-HTTPS sites. It's only a problem for non-HTTPS sites when connecting to the simulator. A coworker has the same problem, so it is not isolated to my machine. I would enable TLS locally as a workaround, but this web app is very complex, and I know from experience that it is very difficult for various reasons to set it up properly for our project in development, and it will take significant non-trivial work to do so. So... Why is this happening? Is this expected behavior? Is there a way that I can debug my site on localhost without HTTPS?

I upload the unzipped folder I'd test in Chrome://extensions to the Safari web extension packager in App store connect. I get error: Embedded binary's bundle identifier is not prefixed with the parent app's bundle identifier. The only solution i've seen to this error involves xcode/a mac, being without which doesn't help

Can someone please help me: I do not have the brain space (85yo) to figure out an Apple Script or Java Script app to do this simple task. There does not appear to be any way to use or create iCloud passkeys with a Safari Web Extension, either using the navigator.credentials API in an extension origin webpage such as the popover, or using the AuthenticationServices framework in the SafariWebExtensionHandler. I've setup an associated domain for my plugin, and I know it works for the host application. But I get errors trying to do so in the web extension target. createCredentialRegistrationRequests results in the following error: Domain=com.apple.AuthenticationServices.AuthorizationError Code=1004 "Application with identifier <ID> is not associated with domain <RPID> The other problem, assuming the entitlement works correctly for the web extension, is that there is no NSWindow to use as the presentation target from the SafariWebExtensionHandler. Trying to use the navigator.credentials.create JS API (which is the preferred method, frankly, in a web extension) results in the following error: NotAllowedError: The request is not allowed by the user agent or the platform in the current context, possibly because the user denied permission. Chrome has a great solution for this that I believe should be adopted by Safari. If an extension has host permissions for a relying party it wants to claim, or if it has an associated domain entitlement for it, webauthn operations should be allowed.

Hi, this is my first post in the community, so please correct me if i am posting this somewhat in a wrong manner. Im using my Apple M1 Pro(14inch, 2021) and installed the os 26 yesterday. Today, I was using Safari, and all of sudden it gets frozen, then the following window popped up. Is this something expected? i.e. my usage is somewhat unusual or is there any report around potential memory leak in Safari? appreciate any suggestions, as Safari is my main browser and currently on hold due to this issue. A DNR rule with lower priority is being applied before a DNR rule of higher priority on Safari. Specifically, a low-priority DNR block rule that matches a request is being applied before a high-priority DNR redirect rule that matches the same request, preventing the redirect from occurring. The only way to get the high-priority redirect rule to occur is to remove the DNR block rule. This does not occur on other browsers. I'm looking for answer or documentation on gatekeeper and launching a MacOS app via a url scheme/custom protocol. Our application is delivered via a zip file downloaded from the web. We utilize a url scheme. The act of extracting the app from the zip registers the url scheme with the OS. From previous research/testing we found we had to break the gatekeeper lock (have the user move the app from the downloaded location) to ensure that the url is honored on first launch of the application. To ensure user compliance, we added a check to make sure that the lock has been removed by looking at the quarantine attribute. This flow is not ideal. I am looking for alternatives and was previously under the impression that if we were to move to a DMG then that would provide the user a better user experience for moving it. However, now that I am getting around to looking into it, I am seeing some implied statements that this is not the case and that the quarantine bit will just be moved from the DMG to the app. Questions: Does a DMG allow the app to be launched via custom protocol without prior launch or movement? With a notarized app, will the custom protocol work on a subsequent launch, even without prior movement?

At the timing of onblur1 the selection menu for choice2 is dismissed. Anyone know how to fix this behavior?

This is my first post, so please forgive me if it is to the wrong area. I've been using Tahoe for a few days and, overall, it's very stable. But the one thing that has bothered me to no end is Safari's new behavior with respect to its header (Address bar, Favorite bookmarks bar, tab bar) background color. The web content of the active tab seems to affect everything - and oftentimes makes things completely unreadable - at least in "Dark" mode. For instance, if a web page uses a white background, the Favorites bookmark labels are the same color as the bookmark background, so reading the labels is simply impossible. At other times, they're just very difficult to read. Similarly, it is almost always impossible to tell which tab is the active one - my only workaround is to try 100% brightness....or to just guess. When Apple previously experimented with letting content bleed through to the top, there was a setting for stopping it - but I don't see such a setting anymore. Do you you know of any way to stop this effect?

Is it possible to add a background.js worker to my existing Safari App Extension to have access to the beginRequest method override inside SFSafariExtensionHandler? Without converting my extension from Safari App Extension to Safari Web Extenion?

I have observed Safari App starts crashing when running with my safari extension. Our Safari extension polls the host app every 60s. The extension receives and completes requests in func beginRequest(with context: NSExtensionContext) (we always call context.completeRequest(...)). The new WebView implementation in *OS 26 versions is a very valuable addition to the SwiftUI toolset. I was experimenting with it and was wondering how to implement a Pull To Refresh. While this was easily achievable with the "old" WKWebView I was not able to find an API to implement, for example, a page reload when the user uses a pull to refresh gesture. I tried to attach to a .refreshable(_:) modifier to the WebView but without success. Is there an official API for that or should maybe .refreshable(_:) already work and it's just a bug or is it simply not yet supported? When trying to create an anchor with the download attribute it does not work for PDF files, it displays the files inline. Also when the download attribute is set the target attribute is ignored too. The tag: ... The behavior: It displaies the file in line. The correct behavior: The file should be downloaded and not displayed or at least displayed but with the "_blank" target (new tab). This is an issue when working with WebSockets which is closed when the file is opened inline.

Bug Report: Safari refuses to render content that is position: fixed or position: sticky if it goes below the iOS 26 navigation controls at the bottom of the browser. Since the controls are transparent and floating, this is a problem as fixed content is effectively unable to reach the bottom of the page. Attempting to move it below 100vh causes it to be cut off rather than rendering behind the navigation elements. PLATFORM AND VERSION iOS Development environment: Xcode 16.2, macOS 15.3.2 Run-time configuration: iOS 15-18 This happens in iOS, and leads to to the hybrid home page showing users as wrongly unauthenticated, since the at cookie is missing. For context, we have a JWT token that is stored in the Keychain, and on app launch, before any WKWebViews are created, we synchronize this to the WKWebsiteDataStore as an at cookie. We have analytics instrumentation on our websitef to show that WKWebView randomly refuses to send out any cookies. – The following is a snippet from an explanation to the WebKit Slack: We are having an issue on iOS, in which WKWebView loads pages (and even subsequent reloads) without any cookies, even though we have stored cookies in WKWebsiteDataStore.default() before hand right after application launch and becoming a key window. We reference this object, store it as a singleton, (as well as a process pool), and then all webview configurations are initialized with the same data store, the same process pool, every call on the main thread. From reading the source code, it seems that if the internal IPC logic fails, the APIs for deleting and setting data records and cookies fail without any feedback in completion handlers. This bug often happens when returning from the background on iOS after a few hours. Sometimes it happens on cold launches of the app. We have mitigated a similar issue (no cookies being sent) by implementing webViewWebContentProcessDidTerminate and reloading the webview ourselves, we found that whatever webview does to reload if that method is not implemented leads to cookies not being used. There have been multiple reports of WKWebView losing cookies in recent iOS versions, and we have tried to implement all of the workarounds listed. Setting a maximumAge to the cookies we store, and doing a _ = await websiteDataStore.dataRecords(ofTypes: Set([WKWebsiteDataTypeCookies])) before accessing or modifying websiteDataStore.httpCookieStore Question: is it safe to work with WKWebsiteDataStore before a WKWebView is added as a view, if so are there any timing considerations? Are there any logs that we can take a look at, this issue is very hard to reproduce, about 2% of our users face it at scale? Is there anything that could be happening within our process (runloop issues, timing) that could be causing this issue? We just know that no cookies are sent for a small percentage of requests. We believe this to be an issue in which Webkit fails to communicate internally with whatever IPC mechanisms it has. We have not been able to reproduce this issue consistently. The best we can give is that it happens after a few hours that the app is in the background. This happens regardless of whether the WKWebsiteDataStore is persistent or not, but seems to be much worse when it is persistent. Thus we have disabled persistnet data stores and relied on nonPersistent. The issue is bad enough that we are trying to move away from relying on cookies for iOS and just use request headers which we can only set on the top level request of WKWebView. DTS Case-ID: 13154329
