The first four tab bars of Safari are hidden
There is no problem with the content display of each tab, but the tab bar is completely buggy. If you open 5 or more tabs and browse tabs after the 5, the first 4 tab bars will be completely blacked out, and you don't even know how many tabs you have. If you click on the place where the tab title probably exists, the tab is displayed as if the partial display of the tab bar has been restored. There is no problem with content display. But because it is unclear what tab is open, the browsing experience is at its lowest. If you switch to the tab after the 5th, the first 4 will return to the blackout state again. Of course, it is the latest software configuration at the moment. There is no shortage of memory at 24GB. I recently started developing a Safari extension with AppExtension, but is that due to it?

Please Help: WKwebview not allowing background audio playback
I’ve been working on a personal iOS project for fun — essentially a YouTube music player, learning how background media playback works in native iOS apps. After seeing that Musi (a famous music streaming app) can play YouTube audio in the background with the screen off — I got really curious. I’ve been trying to replicate that basic background audio functionality for YouTube embeds using WKWebView. I've spent a crazy amount of time (probably 20 hours) trying to figure this out but have achieved no success. Here’s what I’ve tried so far: -Embedding a YouTube video in a WKWebView -Activating AVAudioSession with .playback and setting .setActive(true) -Adding the UIBackgroundModes key with audio in Info.plist -Adding the NSAppTransportSecurity key to allow arbitrary loads --Testing on a real device (iPhone 14, iOS 18.1 target)-- What happens: Audio plays fine in the foreground. If I exit the app and go to the lock screen quickly enough (less than 3 seconds) after pressing play, I can resume playback briefly from the lock screen — but it doesn’t automatically continue like in Musi and other apps like it. Most of the time, the audio stops when the app is backgrounded. I get this error consistently in the logs: Error acquiring assertion: <Error Domain=RBSServiceErrorDomain Code=1 "(originator doesn't have entitlement com.apple.runningboard.assertions.webkit AND originator doesn't have entitlement com.apple.multitasking.systemappassertions)" It seems like the app lacks some specific entitlements related to WebKit media playback. I don’t have AppDelegate/SceneDelegate (using SwiftUI), but can add if needed. I’m super curious how music streaming apps using youtube as a source get around this — are they doing something different under the hood? A custom player? A SafariViewController trick? Is there a specific way to configure WKWebView to keep playing in the background, or is this a known limitation? Would really appreciate any insight from folks who’ve explored this before or know how apps like Musi pulled it off. Thanks in advance!

Simulator 18.4 Webview CORS issues
I have a very specific issue that happens only on iOS Simulator version 18.4. It does NOT happen when I run my app on a real iOS 18.4 device through Testflight. My app displays a WebView (courtesy of Capacitor, url scheme capacitor://). Inside that Webview I'm using Firebase JS API (11.2.0) and calling signInWithEmailAndPassword, which works well in all other contexts, i.e. browser, Android webview, iOS webview in all other Simulator versions, and on real devices. Only when running in Simulator 18.4, I get a failed network request: cannot parse response Fetch API cannot load https://identitytoolkit.googleapis.com/v1/accounts:signInWithPassword?... due to access control checks. Failed to load resource: cannot parse reponse error: FirebaseError: (auth/network-request-failed) Everything is working correctly for both: Capacitor app webview installed on a real 18.4 device with Testflight Safari (non-webview) in the 18.4 Simulator The issue is severe for us, because we are unable to develop our app and test it in the simulator on 18.4 Simulator before pushing it through Testflight internal release. Video on Safari iOS - UI/UX of Shadow Content User Agent
Hi, when I display an HTML page with a on Safari iOS, I get a nice UI. Great! At the first look I see a video frame with an arrow-in-a-circle button in the middle. Very nice. I click on the arrow and I get a fullscreen view while the video begins to play. I watch the video then I pause it then I click on the top-left x button. So I go back to my html page and the video is perfectly there as it was before. But, there is an annoying new detail. The video frame is really dark, it still presents all the controls and a "different" arrow button to play it again. In other words that nice video-frame, that nice picture, is not longer visible on the page. That nice page with nice pictures has now an almost-black rectangle. Too bad. Sure I can click on the video (outside the controls) then the controls and the black overlaying frame disappear. I can see that nice picture again. Finally. Well, but the arrow-in-a-circle button to play the video disappeared. Now the user cannot longer understand that's a video to play. It looks just like any other pictures to admire statically. Is any way to get the previous first look of the video? The one clear, with the current frame and the arrow-in-a-circle look?

Unclear interimResults Web Speech API implementation in Safari iOS (WebKit)
Hi all! I have been working on a web speech recognition service using the Web Speech API. This service is intended to work on smartphones, primarily Chrome on Android and Safari (or WebKit WebView) on iOS. In my specific use case, I need to set the properties continuous = true and interimResults = true. However, I have noticed that interimResults = true does not always work as expected in WebKit. I understand that this setting should provide fast, native, on-device speech recognition with isFinal = false. However, at times, the recognition becomes throttled and slow, yielding isFinal = true and switching to cloud-based recognition. To confirm whether the recognition is cloud-based, I tested it by disabling the internet connection before starting speech recognition. In some cases, recognition fails entirely, which suggests that requiresOnDeviceRecognition = false is being applied. (Reference: SFSpeechRecognitionRequest.requiresOnDeviceRecognition) I believe this is not the expected behavior when setting interimResults = true. HELP!Apple Pay Web application cannot pay due to the bottom rotation issue

Subscription permission denied on webapp push
HI, please can someone help? I have a web app where push notifications are in place for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Providing the user allows notifications then when they log in for the first time their details are registered to the subscriptions table in the backend. All good so far. When trying to do the same with Safari on Mac I'm faced with this issue: "Safari doesn’t support invisible push notifications. Present push notifications to the user immediately after your service worker receives them. If you don’t, Safari revokes the push notification permission for your site." and the user is not registered in the subscription table with the Safari console just saying variations of this: [Warning] Notification permission denied. (notifications_frontend.js, line 177, x2) [Log] Enable Notifications button clicked (notifications_frontend.js, line 245) [Log] Safari Push Notifications detected (notifications_frontend.js, line 248) [Warning] Safari Push Permission denied. (notifications_frontend.js, line 278) I've found this on an another forrum: "Safari requires that you immediately post a notification when a push message is received. "Immediately" means that it cannot be after some async operation. If you display a notification immediately from the service worker itself, it will stop displaying that error. I cannot remember 100% but I think if you clear your cache and cookies you will be able to receive push messages again if you accidentally get blocked while testing." and I've tried adding buttons to trigger allowing notifications but it all seem to late to get the subscription registered in the subscription table. I'm pretty new to coding so if any has a similar experience and can advice how to get the subscriptions registered when the user logs on for the first time in Safari in a Mac it would be greatly appreciated. MacOS Tahoe - Traffic is not routed through PAC file
I am using a custom PAC file in network settings and till now with Sonoma & Sequoia OS, it was working perfectly fine and I was able to redirect traffic to my proxy server. After upgrading to MacOS Tahoe, this stopped working completely. What is happening now is no url is opening on my machine with Chrome & Firefox browser, but somehoe Safari is working. After checking, I found that my deployed network extension is intercepting traffic and allowing it to pass. But still, the pac file is not working. Are there any changes done in MacOS Tahoe regarding this PAC file? How can I resolve this issue?

For confirmation, we made a HTML document (see below HTML1) what include ‘method="POST" target="_blank"’ and tested the form however server received GET method and there is no parameter, server did not receive “id” parameter. We confirmed that fact in captured packet and log file that on the server. HTML1: We also made another HTML document (see below HTML2) what include submit button, but the server received GET method as above. HTML2: And we also confirmed that it behaves differently depending on the network environment. If the form targets a name that does not exist (ex. target=” A12345”), behaves differently http or https. http: Safari opened new tag, but the server received GET method. Normally, Safari open new tag and the server receive POST method. https: Safari opened new tag, and the server received POST method. It is normally. If the form targets ‘_blank’, the server received GET method on http or https both. We think Safari change the method POST to GET and delete parameters. It is not conformed to the HTML specification if is that true. We confirmed it was not happened at Safari on iPadOS 17.4, and Windows PC (Edge, Chrome). The method what the server received is POST. Safari Should Allow Background WebRTC for Real-Time Audio Apps
WebRTC and Web Audio are essential for modern web applications, powering everything from real-time voice communication to accessibility tools. However, in iOS Safari, these technologies are suspended as soon as the screen locks or Safari goes into the background. This makes web-based calling, live audio spaces, broadcast sessions and assistive applications unreliable for iOS users. Why This Matters: It’s impractical and inefficient. Asking users to keep their screen on to continue a WebRTC call wastes more battery, as the display is one of the most power-intensive components of a device. Allowing WebRTC audio to run in the background would be more battery-efficient than forcing the screen to stay lit for extended periods. Competing platforms allow WebRTC to run in the background. Safari’s restriction puts web-based applications at a disadvantage compared to native apps. Many industries depend on persistent WebRTC audio, including telehealth, live broadcasting, and accessibility tools. This restriction forces developers to build native iOS apps instead of using the open web, limiting web innovation and increasing development costs. Proposed Solution: Apple could implement an explicit user permission for background WebRTC, similar to how background audio playback is already handled for media apps. This would balance user security with the need for uninterrupted real-time communication—without forcing users to keep their screens on unnecessarily. I would love to hear if anyone has found workarounds or if Apple has commented on potential improvements in future iOS versions.

Install Safari Extension fails with "Unable to download App" and "Operation not permitted" in log
We have a Safari extension that's been up on the App Store for about 18 months with no apparent issues. This week, however, while working on an update, we uninstalled the production version on our test machines and installed a developer version. When we had some issues, we tried to go back to the production version downloaded from the App Store, but we get an pop saying "Unable to download App." In the log, the most obviously relevant error is 'Operation not permitted'. This occurs on several machines and different logins on those machines in both norma and safe modes. However, on another machine that never had one installed, we could still install the app from the app store, so I suspect there is something left behind that needs to be removed, but I don't know what. FWIW, I see the download directory getting created under /Applications, but it is promptly removed when the failure popup appears. Any suggestions?

Detect whether the user is using Safari or Safari Technology Preview?
Hi, I’m trying to detect whether my Safari Web Extension is running in Safari or Safari Technology Preview. Is there a reliable way to do that? I can get the executable path of the parent process using proc_pidpath(). However, unlike Chrome or Firefox, Safari extensions run under /sbin/launchd as the parent process, not the responsible process (browser’s binary). In this scenario, I need the executable path of the actual browser process, but I haven’t found a way to get it. Also, Safari doesn’t implement the Web Extension API’s browser.runtime.getBrowserInfo(), unlike Firefox. I haven’t tested it yet, but I’m considering checking the user agent string, though I’m not sure how reliable that would be. Use Case Some users use my Safari extension as a web development tool and want to enable some features exclusively in Safari Technology Preview, while using other features only in standard Safari. If I could detect which browser is in use, I could provide the appropriate functionality for them.
