On iOS (iPhone or iPad) the following behaviour happens:
when both an HTML video element and an HTML audio element are playing on a page,
and the video source ends,
and the video source is programmatically forced to play again
then the system will automatically pause the audio.
See following stackblitz project for a sample:
https://stackblitz.com/edit/ios-audio-paused-on-video-playing?file=README.md
Steps to reproduce
Feel free to try with both another audio and video source, here limited by the available space in Stackblitz plan.
On an iPhone/iPad device or simulator, in Safari:
browse to index.html
when on iPhone, press iPhone Load to force preloading video. Not needed on iPad
press Play to start playing both audio and video
wait until clip ends and then restarts from 0:00
Expected
Audio should keep on playing and eventually loop.
Actual
When clip restarts from 0, audio is put to pause by the system.
Further details
This does not happen e.g. on Mac Safari nor on another device/browser.
Also, some alternative scenarios:
when HTML video element has the muted attribute, the issue disappears and audio is not paused
when HTML audio element is replace with Web Audio API, the issue disappears and audio is not paused

We have noticed that in iOS 16 or greater , the Smart App Banner which shows based on meta tag added is not showing the app ratings inside the popup. Can we override this new behavior to show ratings and custom text.
Hello.
We are adding a Safari extension to our app and we have some questions
about communication between the app and its extension.
We have added the nativeMessaging permission to the extension so that it can communicate with the app and communication between both are doing very well.
Our question is about the security of communications between the two.
How can we be sure the native app communicates well with the correct extension?
Can the Safari extension communicate with another native app or can the native app receive messages from another extension?
Hi, I have tried to research how safari clean up the cookie when it reaches maximum limit (4kb) on internet but cannot find a good answer. Anyone can help me to give an answer for this question? Thanks in advance

I am calling fetch with a POST on page1 in Safari. No special cache parameters on the fetch call.
The response from the server is a 303 redirect to page2
The second page -- page2 -- is in my browser's cache with cache-control "public, max-age=31536000, immutable".
For some reason, the page2 redirect is causing a server hit to re-GET the second page every time instead of pulling from cache.
If I instead directly get the second page by doing a fetch on page2, there is no server hit.
If I do this on Chrome or Firefox, it behaves as I would expect, pulling page2 from the cache with no server hit.
In case it matters, the fetch is coming from within an iFrame. Also, if I change the original POST to a GET, the problem still happens.
I am using a pretty old version of Safari on my Mac, so I could chalk it up to that, but I am getting the same behavior with Safari on my iPhone with iOS 18.3.2
Any ideas?
Thanks.
I can open an app (e.g. tiktok) from a website of mine by using the deeplink “tiktok://open”, if the app is installed on my iphone. What's the deeplink to launch TestFlight? Thanks in advance

We are building a Safari web extension utilising native messaging, to send messages to the Swift native part of the app. We sometimes experience, that the beginRequest handler is executed multiple times, at the same time.
We have a special part of the code in the handler, that must be run only once. Because it uses NS defaults storage, and also because it calls our servers. We have tried to use a serial dispatch queue, as well as other locking and mutex techniques, to no success.
We suspect that the instances of the handler are isolated in a way, that these locks don’t work (maybe they don’t share memory?). But we are not sure. When looking at os_logs from the handlers, they all share the same PID.
Has anyone experienced anything similar and can shed some light on what's going on?
On Mac, If the user registers the Password and the Software Authenticator app for a website like PayPal then uses the Safari browser to login the Apple system is creating confusion.
The system prompts to use the authenticator autofill for any grid like SMS OTP or even for the Email OTP. That creates confusion for the user as the SMS OTPs or other OTPs cannot be validated by auto filling the Authenticator TOTP. That fails the validation resulting in bad user experience.
The system should not prompt the Autofill from the Authenticator app unless the grid box shown on the page was for the Authenticator app.
Hello Apple Developer Team,
I would love to see iCloud Keychain Autofill and Touch ID support extended to Chromium-based browsers on macOS (such as Ecosia, Brave, or Vivaldi).
Currently, Safari allows autofill of passwords using Touch ID, but when using other browsers, I have to manually copy-paste credentials from Keychain Access, which is time-consuming.
Would it be possible for Apple to provide an API or framework that allows non-WebKit browsers to integrate iCloud Keychain autofill while keeping security intact?
This feature would make macOS more convenient for users who prefer alternative browsers while keeping security standards high.
Thanks in advance for considering this!
Best regards, Kilian
In a project to create a web extension for Safari, using scripting.registerContentScript() API to inject a bunch of scripts into web pages, I needed to manage a dynamic whitelist (i.e., web pages where the scripts should not be injected).
Fortunately, scripting.registerContentScripts() gives you the option of defining a list of web pages to be considered as a whitelist, using the excludeMatches parameter in the directive, to represent an array of pages where the script should not be injected.
Here just a sample of what I mean:
const matches = ['*://*/*'];
const excludeMatches = ['*://*.example.com/*'];
const directive = {
id: 'injected-jstest',
js: ['injectedscript.js'],
matches: matches,
excludeMatches: excludeMatches,
persistAcrossSessions: false,
runAt: 'document_start'
};
await browser.scripting.registerContentScripts([directive])
.catch(reason => { console.log("[SW] >>> inject script error:",reason); });
Of course, the whitelist (the excludeMatches array) is not static, but varies over time according to the needs of the moment.
Everything works perfectly in Chromium browsers (Chrome, Edge, ...) and Firefox, but fails miserably in Safari. In fact, Safari seems to completely ignore the excludeMatches parameter and injects the script even where it should not.
Has anyone had the same problem and solved it somehow?
NOTE : To test the correctness and capabilities of the API in each browser, I created a simple repository on Github with the extension code for Chromium, Firefox and Safari (XCode project).
The app analytics tab for my account is empty. It doesn't show any bundle IDs or apps that have been launched. Is this normal for WatchOS apps?

Hi i Need help, my phone keeps getting all these updates and rapid security features on it at first I thought it was just the normal updates but i started to pay more attention and it's not. i have the beta updates on my phone iPad and Apple Watch but when I go in to see if it in my updates like apple said to do it wasn't in there. Also all my apps are developer apps I'm not able to get normal ones and if I can the next time I go on it it's not how it was. Hello,
I’m working on a cross-origin WebAuthn implementation where a parent page embeds an iframe from a different origin to perform authentication. According to the WebAuthn Level 3 spec (Section 7.1.1), when crossOrigin is true, the clientDataJSON may include topOrigin—but Safari does not seem to populate this field.
Observed Behavior:
Chrome/Firefox: Include topOrigin in clientDataJSON when crossOrigin: true.
Safari (macOS/iOS): Omits topOrigin even though crossOrigin is correctly set to true.
Example clientDataJSON from Safari:
{
"type": "webauthn.get",
"challenge": "...",
"origin": "https://iframe-origin.example.com",
"crossOrigin": true
// Missing `topOrigin` (expected: parent origin)
}
Questions:
Is this an intentional omission in Safari for privacy/security reasons?
Are there specific requirements (e.g., HTTP headers, permissions policies) needed for Safari to expose topOrigin?
Is there a known workaround to reliably obtain the top-level origin in cross-origin WebAuthn flows?
System Info:
Version 18.4 (20621.1.15.11.10)
OS: Sequoia Version 18.4 (20621.1.15.11.10)
Reproduction Steps:
Parent page (https://parent.example.com) embeds an iframe (https://webauthn-rp.example.com).
The iframe calls navigator.credentials.get() with a WebAuthn challenge.
Safari returns clientDataJSON with crossOrigin: true but no topOrigin.
Code Snippet (iframe):
const credential = await navigator.credentials.get({
publicKey: {
challenge: new Uint8Array(/* ... */),
rpId: 'webauthn-rp.example.com',
allowCredentials: [],
hints: [],
userVerification: "preferred",
}
});
console.log(JSON.parse(atob(credential.response.clientDataJSON)));
Has anyone encountered this? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
We have a native application with a webview part.
When we open the app, we load webview resources in a false foreground. The webview communicates with the native part to query local variables, among other things. We have noticed that for the past few weeks, when the biometric component is presented to enter the fingerprint or faceId, while the component is displayed, the webview does not respond.
We do not see the calls made by the webview, nor can we respond to them. Even if you open the Safari debugger, the webview does not respond UNTIL you close the biometric component in the native part.
This has created a big problem in our app, and we wanted to know if it is an issue you had on your radar.
Thank you very much.
