When a tab goes to sleep, all its resources gets killed. When the user has any interaction it gets active again. However, if there is an audio in the tab, it does not play again even after user interaction. One has to reload/reopen the tab.
Is this how it should work?
Is there a fix for this?
How can i add Authorization header to a wkwebview. I checked https://developer.apple.com/documentation/foundation/nsurlrequest#1776617 which says Authorization header is a reserved http header and shouldn’t be set. I want to set it when requesting a url in wkwebview for authentication purpose?
In my application, I use HTML pages to display the interface. Since it’s a cross-platform app, the pages and interactions work properly on other platforms. However, in WebKit, because HTTPS protocol is used, JS requests from the page cannot use the ws protocol but must use the wss protocol under HTTPS. Is there any way to allow a webpage under HTTPS to use ws requests normally? Google Chrome can do this.

I am encountering an intermittent issue with WKWebView in my iOS app. The problem occurs infrequently, but when it does, the WKWebView consistently displays a white screen and remains in this state until the app is forcefully terminated and relaunched.
To provide more context, here are the key characteristics of the issue:
The white screen problem occurs sporadically and is not easily reproducible.
The WKWebView remains unresponsive despite attempts to interact with it.
Reloading the webpage or navigating to a different URL does not resolve the white screen issue.
The problem persists until the app is terminated and relaunched.
This issue is specific to the WKWebView; other components of the app function correctly.
The WKWebView renders normally, and the main document synchronously loads resources both offline and online without any issues. The bridge and JavaScript execution also work as expected.
However, when interacting with the WKWebView, it becomes unresponsive to user clicks, and the web inspector fails to respond. Additionally, asynchronous network requests also do not receive any response.
The problem occurs exclusively on HTTPS pages, whereas HTTP pages load without any issues. Other components, such as workers, function correctly.
addUserScript injection during WKWebView creation is effective, and evaluateJavaScript during the page loading process works as expected. However, when the document becomes unresponsive, executing evaluateJavaScript only triggers the callback after the WKWebView is destroyed.
I have discovered a reliable method to reproduce the white screen issue in WKWebView. This method involves the following steps and conditions:
Create a WKWebView instance.
Load an HTML page using the loadRequest method(https url request).
Before the WKWebView is attached to the UI (not yet visible to the user), call the evaluateJavaScript function.
This issue has occurred in almost all iOS versions, including the latest iOS 17.x version.
I have a local HTML file used to display mixed content with images and text. Here's the issue: the same file displays everything correctly in Google Chrome, showing both images and text as expected. However, when opened in Safari, only the text is shown—images are missing, which is very strange.
Interestingly, if I remove .png from the title attribute of the tag, the images show up properly in Safari. Alternatively, if I comment out the inclusion of html2canvas.min.js, the images also display correctly (although the layout breaks without it).
I'm not sure if this is a Safari-specific issue. Can anyone explain what might be causing this problem?

Hi everyone,
We're facing a challenge with Apple's WKWebView and its WKAppBoundDomains limit.
Our web app is hosted across multiple dedicated domains to ensure security and isolation for our customers. Additionally, we rely on a service worker to provide offline functionality within our app. To enable the service worker in our WebView app, we must specify the domains within the app-bound domains list.
The issue we're encountering is the 10-domain limit, which is restrictive since our app needs to support access to more than 10 domains.
Has anyone found a workaround for this limitation? Or does Apple provide any exceptions to this rule if a strong case is presented?
We’d greatly appreciate any insights or experiences you can share. Thanks in advance!

We confirmed a problem at Safari on iPadOS 18.2 or after version.
For confirmation, we made a HTML document (see below HTML1) what include ‘method="POST" target="_blank"’ and tested the form however server received GET method and there is no parameter, server did not receive “id” parameter.
We confirmed that fact in captured packet and log file that on the server.
HTML1:
We also made another HTML document (see below HTML2) what include submit button, but the server received GET method as above.
HTML2:
And we also confirmed that it behaves differently depending on the network environment.
If the form targets a name that does not exist (ex. target=” A12345”), behaves differently http or https.
http:
Safari opened new tag, but the server received GET method. Normally, Safari open new tag and the server receive POST method.
https:
Safari opened new tag, and the server received POST method. It is normally.
If the form targets ‘_blank’, the server received GET method on http or https both.
We think Safari change the method POST to GET and delete parameters.
It is not conformed to the HTML specification if is that true.
We confirmed it was not happened at Safari on iPadOS 17.4, and Windows PC (Edge, Chrome).
The method what the server received is POST.
We find same problem in Apple Support Community (see below URL).
https://discussionsjapan.apple.com/thread/255987615 (Described in Japanese)
Is it a bug in Safari on iPadOS 18.2 or after version?
Do you have plan to fix? Or if fixed the bug, when do you release fixed version.

I have a simple Safari extension for iOS.
In its popup, I want a button that will open the app via a universal link.
I have this kind-of working, except that Safari opens the actual online destination of the link with a banner at the top saying "Open in the XXXX app" and an OPEN button.
What do I have to do to go directly to the app?
More generally, I know that if I copy-and-paste a universal link into the Safari address bar, Safari does the same thing - but it does go directly to the app from an <a href="...."> link.
In my app extension JavaScript, I set window.location. Presumably this is too similar to pasting into the address bar.
Is there some alternative to setting window.location that is more like clicking on a link and will go directly to the universal link's app?
Thanks.
**Description: **
We have implemented a process to launch a native app from a browser (Safari) via universal links. However, under certain conditions, the app does not launch seamlessly, and an error page is displayed in the browser. In such cases, a button to open the app appears at the top of the error page, and pressing this button successfully opens the app.
The error page is a blank white page with only the following error message displayed: "NoSuchKeyThe specified key does not exist."
We want to confirm the detailed specifications and conditions of the behavior where seamless transition via universal links fails.
If there are means to suppress or control the occurrence of this issue, please let us know.
Configuration:
OS: iOS 18.1
Device: iPad 9th generation, 10th generation
**Reproduction Steps: **
When attempting to launch the app via a universal link, a pop-up appears asking "Do you want to allow this page to open ?"
If 'Cancel' is pressed in this pop-up, the issue occurs the next time the app is launched via a universal link.
However, we have also confirmed that this issue can occur due to operations other than this one, and we have not been able to pinpoint the conditions under which it occurs. Therefore, we would like to confirm the detailed specifications and conditions leading to the occurrence of this issue.
Hi, I would like to share a finding and ask for a solution, if possible. This may be a potential bug with PointerMoveEvent on Safari on an iPad with Pencil Pro.
I tested onPointerMove and onTouchMove in a <canvas> element in a React web app for freehand drawing using
Mouse on a PC.
Finger touch on iPad
Apple pencil pro on iPad
Finger touch on iPhone
I was able to draw smooth curves in all cases except when using onPointerMove with Apple pencil pro on iPad. The curve drawn in this case looked like it was created using several straight-line segments.
It seems like the sampling rate for PointerMoveEvent is lower than that of TouchMoveEvent on Safari
I am not sure how to solve this problem or if it is an issue with Safari's interpretation of PointerEvents. Any input is greatly appreciated.
Edit: It seems like https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/689375
is related.
We have a Safari extension that's been up on the App Store for about 18 months with no apparent issues. This week, however, while working on an update, we uninstalled the production version on our test machines and installed a developer version. When we had some issues, we tried to go back to the production version downloaded from the App Store, but we get an pop saying "Unable to download App." In the log, the most obviously relevant error is 'Operation not permitted'.
This occurs on several machines and different logins on those machines in both norma and safe modes. However, on another machine that never had one installed, we could still install the app from the app store, so I suspect there is something left behind that needs to be removed, but I don't know what.
FWIW, I see the download directory getting created under /Applications, but it is promptly removed when the failure popup appears.
Any suggestions?
Subject: Help Needed with App Clip Implementation
Hi Team,
I need some assistance with implementing App Clip behavior in safari and also experimenting using TestFlight app.
Default App Clip URL:
https://appclip.apple.com/id?p=com.jey.ppclient-prod.appclip
Website for App Clip Integration:
https://appclip-sand.vercel.app/customer
Current Behavior:
Default App Clip URL:
When I embed the default App Clip URL in an HTML tag like below:
Launch App Clip
it does launch the App Clip. but it says the appclip not supported in your region
I've already added this configuration under Local Experience in App Store Connect.
Website Integration:
I’ve registered the site using the Advanced App Clip Experience.
The apple-app-site-association file is in place.
When I visit the site, the App Clip does launch as expected.
What I Need Help With:
I want to launch the App Clip from a custom button click, using either:
The default App Clip URL, or
The website URL (e.g., https://appclip-sand.vercel.app/customer) with additional query parameters like userId or sessionId.
Is there a supported way to achieve this—perhaps through JavaScript or a specific tag setup that works with either Local or Advanced Experience?
Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jey

What happens if Safari is uninstalled or disabled on iOS?
Will SFafariviewcontroller still work?
Kind regards
Hi!
I'm working on a web extension for Safari and I need to send messages from the containing application to JavaScript. For this I use the method
class func dispatchMessage(
withName messageName: String,
toExtensionWithIdentifier identifier: String,
userInfo: [String : Any]? = nil
) async throws
of the SFSafariApplication class. If the site is opened in Safari in normal mode, everything works as expected. However, if the site is "docked", the messages are not transmitted to this "Web App".
Is it possible to somehow link the container application to the docked website so that messages from the application are received by this "Web App"?
That you.
Doc URL: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/applepayontheweb/requesting-an-apple-pay-payment-session
How can I send a POST request using PHP, and what certificates are required?
Currently, I have downloaded the following files on the backend: merchant_id.cer, apple_pay.cer, and a local cert.p12 file
This my code:
But,run error:cURL Error: unable to set private key file: '***/private.pem' type PEM%
ios drop file wrong file name
I use the following simple JS code to drag file from the browser to the desktop.
Works perfect on MacOS.
onDragStart(event, ucpView) {
let file = new BrowserFile([this.file.fileContent], this.file.displayName, {
type: 'application/ucp-scenario'
});
const fileURL = URL.createObjectURL(file);
event.dataTransfer.setData("DownloadURL", `application/octet-stream:${file.name}:${fileURL}`);
event.dataTransfer.setData("text/uri-list", fileURL);
}
but on iOS it keeps nameing the file
Text1.txt
Text2.txt
...
and ignores the DownloadURL
whats the best way to get it workng on both OS?

I'm experiencing issues with audio playback in my React video player component specifically on iOS mobile devices (iPhone/iPad). Even after implementing several recommended solutions, including Apple's own guidelines, the audio still isn't working properly on iOS Safari. It works completely fine on Android. On iOS, I ensured the video doesn't autoplay (it requires user interaction). Here are all the details:
Environment
iOS Safari (latest version)
React 18
TypeScript
Video files: MP4 with AAC audio codec
Current Implementation
const VideoPlayer: React.FC<VideoPlayerProps> = ({
src,
autoplay = true,
}) => {
const videoRef = useRef<HTMLVideoElement>(null);
const isIOSDevice = isIOS(); // Custom iOS detection
const [touchStartY, setTouchStartY] = useState<number | null>(null);
const [touchStartTime, setTouchStartTime] = useState<number | null>(null);
// Handle touch start event for gesture detection
const handleTouchStart = (e: React.TouchEvent) => {
setTouchStartY(e.touches[0].clientY);
setTouchStartTime(Date.now());
};
// Handle touch end event with gesture validation
const handleTouchEnd = (e: React.TouchEvent) => {
if (touchStartY === null || touchStartTime === null) return;
const touchEndY = e.changedTouches[0].clientY;
const touchEndTime = Date.now();
// Validate if it's a legitimate tap (not a scroll)
const verticalDistance = Math.abs(touchEndY - touchStartY);
const touchDuration = touchEndTime - touchStartTime;
// Only trigger for quick taps (< 200ms) with minimal vertical movement
if (touchDuration < 200 && verticalDistance < 10) {
handleVideoInteraction(e);
}
setTouchStartY(null);
setTouchStartTime(null);
};
// Simplified video interaction handler following Apple's guidelines
const handleVideoInteraction = (e: React.MouseEvent | React.TouchEvent) => {
console.log('Video interaction detected:', {
type: e.type,
timestamp: new Date().toISOString()
});
// Ensure keyboard is dismissed (iOS requirement)
if (document.activeElement instanceof HTMLElement) {
document.activeElement.blur();
}
e.stopPropagation();
const video = videoRef.current;
if (!video || !video.paused) return;
// Attempt playback in response to user gesture
video.play().catch(err => console.error('Error playing video:', err));
};
// Effect to handle video source and initial state
useEffect(() => {
console.log('VideoPlayer props:', { src, loadingState });
setError(null);
setLoadingState('initial');
setShowPlayButton(false); // Never show custom play button on iOS
if (videoRef.current) {
// Set crossOrigin attribute for CORS
videoRef.current.crossOrigin = "anonymous";
if (autoplay && !hasPlayed && !isIOSDevice) {
// Only autoplay on non-iOS devices
dismissKeyboard();
setHasPlayed(true);
}
}
}, [src, autoplay, hasPlayed, isIOSDevice]);
return (

"x-webkit-playsinline": true,
"webkit-playsinline": true
})}
>
<source src={videoSrc} type="video/mp4" />
</video>
</Paper>
);
};
Apple's Guidelines Implementation
Removed custom play controls on iOS
Using native video controls for user interaction
Ensuring audio playback is triggered by user gesture
Following Apple's audio session guidelines
Properly handling the canplaythrough event
Current Behavior
Video plays but without sound on iOS mobile
Mute/unmute button in native video controls doesn't work
Audio works fine on desktop browsers and Android devices
Videos are confirmed to have AAC audio codec
No console errors related to audio playback
User interaction doesn't trigger audio as expected
Questions
Are there any additional iOS-specific requirements I'm missing?
Could this be related to iOS audio session handling?
Are there known issues with React's handling of video elements on iOS?
Should I be implementing additional audio context initialization?
Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
