What special features does Apple officially have that use ML or AI?
I am a App designer and I am curious about what specific ML or AI Apple used to develop those features in the system. As far as I know, Apple's hand-raising detection, destination recommendations in maps, and exercise types in fitness all use ML. Are there more specific application examples of ML or AI? Does Apple have a document specifically introducing examples of specific applications of ML or AI technology in the system?

develop app in Europe using image playground
Hi, I want to develop an app which makes use of Image Playground. However, I am located in Europe which makes it impossible for me as Image Playground is not available for me. Even if I would like to distribute the app in the US. Nor the simulator, nor a physical device will always return that support for ImagePlayground is not supported (@Environment(.supportsImagePlayground) private var supportsImagePlayground) How to set my environment such that I can test the feature in my iOS application

Xcode AI Coding Assistance Option(s)
Not finding a lot on the Swift Assist technology announced at WWDC 2024. Does anyone know the latest status? Also, currently I use OpenAI's macOS app and its 'Work With...' functionality to assist with Xcode development, and this is okay, certainly saves copying code back and forth, but it seems like AI should be able to do a lot more to help with Xcode app development. I guess I'm looking at what people are doing with AI in Visual Studio, Cline, Cursor and other IDEs and tools like those and feel a bit left out working in Xcode. Please let me know if there are AI tools or techniques out there you use to help with your Xcode projects. Thanks in advance!

CoreML: Model loading utilities
Hello, We find that models sometimes load very fast (<< 1 second) and sometimes encounter very long load times (>> 120 seconds). During such slow load times, the model is being compiled. We would greatly appreciate the ability to check cache validity via CoreML and determine that we are about to encounter long load times so that we can mitigate and provide a good user experience. A secondary issue: sometimes the cache is corrupted (typically .mpsgraphpackage yielding Metal cold asserts). This yields load failures and OS errors that persist between launches, and we have to manually nuke the cache (~/Library/..../my-app/...) for the CoreML assets. A CoreML API for clearing caches and hardening from asserts across the load paths would be appreciated

VNCoreMLTransform - request failed
Keep getting error : I have tried Picker for File, Photo Library , both same results . Debugging the resize for 360x360 but still facing this error. The model I'm trying to implement is created with CreateMLComponents The process is from example of WWDC 2022 Banana Ripeness , I have used index for each .jpg . Prediction Failed: The VNCoreMLTransform request failed Is there some possible way to solve it or is error somewhere in training of model ?

What is the Foundation Models support for basic math?
I am experimenting with Foundation Models in my time tracking app to analyze users tracked events, but I am finding that the model struggles with even basic computation of time. Specifically converting from seconds to hours and minutes. To give just one example, when I prompt: "Convert 3672 seconds to hours, minutes, and seconds. Don't include the calculations in the resulting output" I get this: "3672 seconds is equal to 1 hour, 0 minutes, and 36 seconds". Which is clearly wrong - it should be 1 hour, 1 minute, and 12 seconds. Another issue that I saw a lot is that seconds were considered to be minutes, or that the hours were just completely off. What can I do to make the support for math better? Or is that just something that the model is not meant to be used for?

Foundation Models performance reality check - anyone else finding it slow?
Testing Foundation Models framework with a health-focused recipe generation app. The on-device approach is appealing but performance is rough. Taking 20+ seconds just to get recipe name and description. Same content from Claude API: 4 seconds. I know it's beta and on-device has different tradeoffs, but this is approaching unusable territory for real-time user experience. The streaming helps psychologically but doesn't mask the underlying latency. The privacy/cost benefits are compelling but not if users abandon the feature before it completes. Anyone else seeing similar performance? Is this expected for beta, or are there optimization techniques I'm missing?

MPSGraph fused scaledDotProductAttention seems to be buggy
While building an app with large language model inferencing on device, I got gibberish output. After carefully examining every detail, I found it's caused by the fused scaledDotProductAttention operation. I switched back to the discrete operations and problem solved. To reproduce the bug, please check https://github.com/zhoudan111/MPSGraph_SDPA_bug

Request for Agentic AI Mode (MCP Protocol) Support in Future Versions of iOS or Xcode
Hello Apple Team, Thank you for the recent Group Lab and for your continued work on advancing Xcode and developer tools. I’d like to submit a feature request: Are there any plans to introduce support for Agentic AI Mode (MCP protocol) in future versions of iOS or Xcode? As developer tools evolve toward more intelligent and context-aware environments, the integration of agentic AI capabilities could significantly enhance productivity and unlock new creative workflows. Looking forward to your consideration, and thank you again for the excellent session. Best regards

FoundationModels Content Sanitizer Blocking Legitimate Text Processing
I'm developing a macOS application using the FoundationModels framework (LanguageModelSession) and encountering issues with the content sanitizer blocking legitimate text input. ** Issue Description:** The content sanitizer is flagging text strings that contain certain substrings, even when they represent legitimate technical content. For example: F_SEEL_SEX1S.wav (sE Electronics SEX1S microphone model) Technical product identifiers Serial numbers and version codes ** Broader Concern:** The content sanitizer appears to be applying restrictions that seem inappropriate for user-owned content. Even if a filename were something like "human sex.wav", users should have the right to process their own legitimate files on their own devices without content filtering interference. ** Error Messages:** SensitiveContentSettings: Sanitizer model found unsafe content in value FoundationModels.LanguageModelSession.GenerationError error 2 ** Questions:** Is there a way to disable content sanitization for processing user-owned content? 2. What's the recommended approach for applications that need to handle arbitrary user text? 3. Are there APIs to process personal content without filtering restrictions? ** Environment:** macOS 26.0 FoundationModels framework LanguageModelSession Any guidance would be appreciated.

Does ImageRequestHandler(data:) include depth data from AVCapturePhoto?
Hi all, I'm capturing a photo using AVCapturePhotoOutput, and I've set: let photoSettings = AVCapturePhotoSettings() photoSettings.isDepthDataDeliveryEnabled = true Then I create the handler like this: let data = photo.fileDataRepresentation() let handler = try ImageRequestHandler(data: data, orientation: .right) Now I’m wondering: If depth data delivery is enabled, is it actually included and used when I pass the Data to ImageRequestHandler? Or do I need to explicitly pass the depth data using the other initializer? let handler = try ImageRequestHandler( cvPixelBuffer: photo.pixelBuffer!, depthData: photo.depthData, orientation: .right ) In short: Does ImageRequestHandler(data:) make use of embedded depth info from AVCapturePhoto.fileDataRepresentation() — or is the pixel buffer + explicit depth data required? Thanks for any clarification!

Create ML how to handle polygon annotations?
I have images, and I annotated with polygon, actually simple trapezoid, so 4 points. I have been trying and trying but can't get Create ML to work. I am trying Object Detection. I am not a real programmer so really would greatly appreciate some guidance to help to get this model created. I think I made a Detectron2 model, and tried to get that converted into a mlmodel I need for xcode but had troubles there also. thank you. { "annotation": "IMG_1803.JPG", "annotations": [ { "label": "court", "coordinates": { "x": [ 187, 3710, 2780, 929 ], "y": [ 1689, 1770, 478, 508 ] } } ] },

Failed to build the model execution plan using a model architecture file
Our app is downloading a zip of an .mlpackage file, which is then compiled into an .mlmodelc file using MLModel.compileModel(at:). This model is then run using a VNCoreMLRequest. Two users – and this after a very small rollout - are reporting issues running the VNCoreMLRequest. The error message from their logs: Error Domain=com.apple.CoreML Code=0 "Failed to build the model execution plan using a model architecture file '/private/var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/F93077A5-5508-4970-92A6-03A835E3291D/Documents/SKDownload/Identify-image-iOS/mobile_img_eu_v210.mlmodelc/model.mil' with error code: -5." The URL there is to a file inside the compiled model. The error is happening when the perform function of VNImageRequestHandler is run. (i.e. the model compiled without an error.) Anyone else seen this issue? Its only picked up in a few web results and none of them are directly relevant or have a fix. I know that a CoreML error Code=0 is a generic error, but does anyone know what error code -5 is? Not even sure which framework its coming from.

Selecting GPU for TensorFlow-Metal on Mac Pro (2013) with v0.8.0
Hi everyone, I'm a Mac enthusiast experimenting with tensorflow-metal on my Mac Pro (2013). My question is about GPU selection in tensorflow-metal (v0.8.0), which still supports Intel-based Macs, including my machine. I've noticed that when running TensorFlow with Metal, it automatically selects a GPU, regardless of what I specify using device indices like "gpu:0", "gpu:1", or "gpu:2". I'm wondering if there's a way to manually specify which GPU should be used via an environment variable or another method. For reference, I’ve tried the example from TensorFlow’s guide on multi-GPU selection: https://www.tensorflow.org/guide/gpu#using_a_single_gpu_on_a_multi-gpu_system My goal is to explore performance optimizations by using MirroredStrategy in TensorFlow to leverage multiple GPUs: https://www.tensorflow.org/guide/distributed_training#mirroredstrategy Interestingly, I discovered that the metalcompute Python library (https://pypi.org/project/metalcompute/) allows to utilize manually selected GPUs on my system, allowing for proper multi-GPU computations. This makes me wonder: Is there a hidden environment variable or setting that allows manual GPU selection in tensorflow-metal? Has anyone successfully used MirroredStrategy on multiple GPUs with tensorflow-metal? Would a bridge between metalcompute and tensorflow-metal be necessary for this use case, or is there a more direct approach? I’d love to hear if anyone else has experimented with this or has insights on getting finer control over GPU selection. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Localizing prompts that has string interpolated generable objects
I'm working on localizing my prompts to support multiple languages, and in some cases my prompts has String interpolated Generable objects. for example: "Given the following workout routine: \(routine), suggest one additional exercise to complement it." In the Strings dictionary, I'm only able to select String, Int or Double parameters using %@ and %lld. Has anyone found a way to accomplish this?

Memory Attribution for Foundation Models in iOS 26
Hi, I’m developing an app targeting iOS 26, using the new FoundationModels framework to perform on-device LLM inference. I’m currently testing memory usage. Does the memory used by FoundationModels—including model weights, KV cache, and any inference-related buffers—count toward my app’s Jetsam memory limit, or is any of it managed separately by the system? I may need to run two concurrent inferences, each with a 4096-token context window. Is this explicitly supported or allowed by FoundationModels on iOS 26? Would this significantly increase the risk of memory-based termination? Thanks in advance for any clarification. Thanks.
