AI framework usage without user session
We are evaluating various AI frameworks to use within our code, and are hoping to use some of the build-in frameworks in macOS including CoreML and Vision. However, we need to use these frameworks in a background process (system extension) that has no user session attached to it. (To be pedantic, we'll be using an XPC service that is spawned by the system extension, but neither would have an associated user session). Saying the daemon-safe frameworks list has not been updated in a while is an understatement, but it's all we have to go on. CoreGraphics isn't even listed--back then it part of ApplicationServices (I think?) and ApplicationServices is a no go. Vision does use CoreGraphics symbols and data types so I have doubts. We do have a POC that uses both frameworks and they seem to function fine but obviously having something official is better. Any Apple engineers that can comment on this?

Pre-inference AI Safety Governor for FoundationModels (Swift, On-Device)
Hi everyone, I've been building an on-device AI safety layer called Newton Engine, designed to validate prompts before they reach FoundationModels (or any LLM). Wanted to share v1.3 and get feedback from the community. The Problem Current AI safety is post-training — baked into the model, probabilistic, not auditable. When Apple Intelligence ships with FoundationModels, developers will need a way to catch unsafe prompts before inference, with deterministic results they can log and explain. What Newton Does Newton validates every prompt pre-inference and returns: Phase (0/1/7/8/9) Shape classification Confidence score Full audit trace If validation fails, generation is blocked. If it passes (Phase 9), the prompt proceeds to the model. v1.3 Detection Categories (14 total) Jailbreak / prompt injection Corrosive self-negation ("I hate myself") Hedged corrosive ("Not saying I'm worthless, but...") Emotional dependency ("You're the only one who understands") Third-person manipulation ("If you refuse, you're proving nobody cares") Logical contradictions ("Prove truth doesn't exist") Self-referential paradox ("Prove that proof is impossible") Semantic inversion ("Explain how truth can be false") Definitional impossibility ("Square circle") Delegated agency ("Decide for me") Hallucination-risk prompts ("Cite the 2025 CDC report") Unbounded recursion ("Repeat forever") Conditional unbounded ("Until you can't") Nonsense / low semantic density Test Results 94.3% catch rate on 35 adversarial test cases (33/35 passed). Architecture User Input ↓ [ Newton ] → Validates prompt, assigns Phase ↓ Phase 9? → [ FoundationModels ] → Response Phase 1/7/8? → Blocked with explanation Key Properties Deterministic (same input → same output) Fully auditable (ValidationTrace on every prompt) On-device (no network required) Native Swift / SwiftUI String Catalog localization (EN/ES/FR) FoundationModels-ready (#if canImport) Code Sample — Validation let governor = NewtonGovernor() let result = governor.validate(prompt: userInput) if result.permitted { // Proceed to FoundationModels let session = LanguageModelSession() let response = try await session.respond(to: userInput) } else { // Handle block print("Blocked: Phase \(result.phase.rawValue) — \(result.reasoning)") print(result.trace.summary) // Full audit trace } Questions for the Community Anyone else building pre-inference validation for FoundationModels? Thoughts on the Phase system (0/1/7/8/9) vs. simple pass/fail? Interest in Shape Theory classification for prompt complexity? Best practices for integrating with LanguageModelSession? Links GitHub: https://github.com/jaredlewiswechs/ada-newton Technical overview: parcri.net Happy to share more implementation details. Looking for feedback, collaborators, and anyone else thinking about deterministic AI safety on-device.

Foundation Models inside of DeviceActivityReport?
Pretty much as per the title and I suspect I know the answer. Given that Foundation Models run on device, is it possible to use Foundation Models framework inside of a DeviceActivityReport? I've been tinkering with it, and all I get is errors and "Sandbox restrictions". Am I missing something? Seems like a missed trick to utilise on device AI/ML with other frameworks.

What is the proper way to integrate a CoreML app into Xcode
Hi, I have been trying to integrate a CoreML model into Xcode. The model was made using tensorflow layers. I have included both the model info and a link to the app repository. I am mainly just really confused on why its not working. It seems to only be printing the result for case 1 (there are 4 cases labled, case 0, case 1, case 2, and case 3). If someone could help work me through this error that would be great! here is the link to the repository: https://github.com/ShivenKhurana1/Detect-to-Protect-App this file with the model code is called SecondView.swift and here is the model info: Input: conv2d_input-> image (color 224x224) Output: Identity -> MultiArray (Float32 1x4)

AI-Powered Feed Customization via User-Defined Algorithm
Hey guys 👋 I’ve been thinking about a feature idea for iOS that could totally change the way we interact with apps like Twitter/X. Imagine if we could define our own recommendation algorithm, and have an AI on the iPhone that replaces the suggested tweets in the feed with ones that match our personal interests — based on public tweets, and without hacking anything. Kinda like a personalized "AI skin" over the app that curates content you actually care about. Feels like this would make content way more relevant and less algorithmically manipulative. Would love to know what you all think — and if Apple could pull this off 🔥

Siri 2.0 (suggests and future updates)
Hey dear developers! This post should be available for the future Siri updates and improvements but also for wishes in this forum so that everyone can share their opinion and idea please stay friendly. have fun! I had already thought about developing a demo app to demonstrate my idea for a better Siri. My change of many: Wish Update: Siri's language recognition capabilities have been significantly enhanced. Instead of manually setting the language, Siri can now automatically recognize the language you intend to use, making language switching much more efficient. Simply speak the language you want to communicate in, and Siri will automatically recognize it and respond accordingly. Whether you speak English, German, or Japanese, Siri will respond in the language you choose.

Unified Use Case Mail Categories & Spam
Hi Apple product owners. I am missing a unified concept which might be derived from the use cases for mail categories and mail spam for the app "Mail" on Mac. I need a recommendation on how to use categories in combination with the spam filter to get most out of it. So I was looking for the use cases for the 2 functionality areas in order to figure out how to organise my mails by using as much automation as possible before I start creating intelligent folders in addition. What can you recommend where I get this information from? I don't want to guess or read a lot of forum contributions which are based on guesses.

AXSpeech Crash
I have a very terrible crash problem in my App when I use AVSpeechSynthesizer and I can't repetition it.Here is my code, It's a singleton- (void)stopSpeech { if ([self.synthesizer isPaused]) { return; } if ([self.synthesizer isSpeaking]) { BOOL isSpeech = [self.synthesizer stopSpeakingAtBoundary:AVSpeechBoundaryImmediate]; if (!isSpeech) { [self.synthesizer stopSpeakingAtBoundary:AVSpeechBoundaryWord]; } } self.stopBlock ? self.stopBlock() : nil; } -(AVSpeechSynthesizer *)synthesizer { if (!_synthesizer) { _synthesizer = [[AVSpeechSynthesizer alloc] init]; _synthesizer.delegate = self; } return _synthesizer; }When the user leaves the page, I call the stopSpeech method。Then I got a lot of crash messagesHere is a crash log:# Crashlytics - plaintext stacktrace downloaded by liweican at Mon, 13 May 2019 03:03:24 GMT # URL: https://fabric.io/youdao-dict/ios/apps/com.youdao.udictionary/issues/5a904ed88cb3c2fa63ad7ed3?time=last-thirty-days/sessions/b1747d91bafc4680ab0ca8e3a702c52c_DNE_0_v2 # Organization: zzz # Platform: ios # Application: U-Dictionary # Version: 3.0.5.4 # Bundle Identifier: com.youdao.UDictionary # Issue ID: 5a904ed88cb3c2fa63ad7ed3 # Session ID: b1747d91bafc4680ab0ca8e3a702c52c_DNE_0_v2 # Date: 2019-05-13T02:27:00Z # OS Version: 12.2.0 (16E227) # Device: iPhone 8 Plus # RAM Free: 17% # Disk Free: 64.6% #19. CoreML: Model loading utilities
Hello, We find that models sometimes load very fast (<< 1 second) and sometimes encounter very long load times (>> 120 seconds). During such slow load times, the model is being compiled. We would greatly appreciate the ability to check cache validity via CoreML and determine that we are about to encounter long load times so that we can mitigate and provide a good user experience. A secondary issue: sometimes the cache is corrupted (typically .mpsgraphpackage yielding Metal cold asserts). This yields load failures and OS errors that persist between launches, and we have to manually nuke the cache (~/Library/..../my-app/...) for the CoreML assets. A CoreML API for clearing caches and hardening from asserts across the load paths would be appreciated

Threading issues when using debugger
Hi, I am modifying the sample camera app that is here: https://developer.apple.com/tutorials/sample-apps/capturingphotos-camerapreview ... In the processPreviewImages, I am using the Vision APIs to generate a segmentation mask for a person/object, then compositing that person onto a different background (with some other filtering). The filtering and compositing is done via CoreImage. At the end, I convert the CIImage to a CGImage then to a SwiftUI Image. When I run it on my iPhone, it works fine, and has not crashed. When I run it on the iPhone with the debugger, it crashes within a few seconds with: EXC_BAD_ACCESS in libRPAC.dylib`std::__1::__hash_table<std::__1::__hash_value_type<long, qos_info_t>, std::__1::__unordered_map_hasher<long, std::__1::__hash_value_type<long, qos_info_t>, std::__1::hash, std::__1::equal_to, true>, std::__1::__unordered_map_equal<long, std::__1::__hash_value_type<long, qos_info_t>, std::__1::equal_to, std::__1::hash, true>, std::__1::allocator<std::__1::__hash_value_type<long, qos_info_t>>>::__emplace_unique_key_args<long, std::__1::piecewise_construct_t const&, std::__1::tuple<long const&>, std::__1::tuple<>>: It had previously been working fine with the debugger, so I'm not sure what has changed. Is there a difference in how the Vision APIs are executed if the debugger is attached vs. not?

Train adapter with tool calling
Documentation on adapter train is lacking any details related to training on dataset with tool calling. And page about tool calling itself only explain how to use it from Swift without any internal details useful in training. Question is how schema should looks like for including tool calling in dataset?

Programmatic image creation using ImageCreator
Hello, Could you please provide details for maximum string length of the prompt and the title when using ImageCreator and the method extracted(from:title:)? static func extracted( from text: String, title: String? = nil ) -> ImagePlaygroundConcept Any additional details or example of prompt and title would help. Additionally, are ImagePlaygroundStyle.animation, ImagePlaygroundStyle.illustration and ImagePlaygroundStyle.sketch all available when using extracted(from:title:)? I am trying to generate images programmatically and would appreciate your guidance. Thank you.

CoreML multifunction model runtime memory cost
Recently, I'm trying to deploy some third-party LLM to Apple devices. The methodoloy is similar to https://github.com/Anemll/Anemll. The biggest issue I'm having now is the runtime memory usage. When there are multiple functions in a model (mlpackage or mlmodelc), the runtime memory usage for weights is somehow duplicated when I load all of them. Here's the detail: I created my multifunction mlpackage following https://apple.github.io/coremltools/docs-guides/source/multifunction-models.html I loaded each of the functions using the generated swift class: let config = MLModelConfiguration() config.computeUnits = MLComputeUnits.cpuAndNeuralEngine config.functionName = "infer_512"; let ffn1_infer_512 = try! mimo_FFN_PF_lut4_chunk_01of02(configuration: config) config.functionName = "infer_1024"; let ffn1_infer_1024 = try! mimo_FFN_PF_lut4_chunk_01of02(configuration: config) config.functionName = "infer_2048"; let ffn1_infer_2048 = try! mimo_FFN_PF_lut4_chunk_01of02(configuration: config) I observed that RAM usage increases linearly as I load each of the functions. Using instruments, I see that there are multiple HWX files generated and loaded, each of which contains all the weight data. My understanding of what's happening here: The CoreML framework did some MIL->MIL preprocessing before further compilation, which includes separating CPU workload from ANE workload. The ANE part of each function is moved into a separate MIL file then compile separately into a HWX file each. The problem is that the weight data of these HWX files are duplicated. Since that the weight data of LLMs is huge, it will cause out-of-memory issue on mobile devices. The improvement I'm hoping from Apple: I hope we can try to merge the processed MIL files back into one before calling ANECCompile(), so that the weights can be merged. I don't have control over that in user space and I'm not sure if that is feasible. So I'm asking for help here. Thanks.

Swipe-to-Type Broken in iOS 26 Beta 1 & 2 Siri Typing Mode
I’ve been testing silent Siri engagement via typing on iOS 18 and also on iOS 26 beta 1 and beta 2. While normal typing works perfectly in type-to-Siri mode, I’ve noticed that swipe-to-type gestures don’t work within Siri’s input field. Interestingly, you still feel the usual haptic feedback associated with swipe typing, but no text appears in the Siri text box. Swipe-to-type continues to work flawlessly in other apps like Messages and Notes, so this seems to be an issue specific to Siri’s typing input handler in these betas. Hopefully, it will be fixed in the next release because swipe typing is essential to my silent Siri workflow.

Foundation Models framework dyld symbol errors after macOS 26 Beta 2 - LanguageModelSession constructor missing
Foundation Models framework worked perfectly on macOS 26 Beta 2, but starting from Beta 3 and continuing through Beta 6 (latest), I get dyld symbol errors even with the exact code from Apple's documentation. Environment: macOS 26.0 Beta 6 (25A5351b) Xcode 26 Beta 6 M4 Max MacBook Pro Apple Intelligence enabled and downloaded Error Details: dyld[Process]: Symbol not found: _$s16FoundationModels20LanguageModelSessionC5model10guardrails5tools12instructionsAcA06SystemcD0C_AC10GuardrailsVSayAA4Tool_pGAA12InstructionsVSgtcfC Referenced from: /path/to/app.debug.dylib Expected in: /System/Library/Frameworks/FoundationModels.framework/Versions/A/FoundationModels Code Used (Exact from Documentation): import FoundationModels // This worked on Beta 2, crashes on Beta 3+ let model = SystemLanguageModel.default let session = LanguageModelSession(model: model) let response = try await session.respond(to: "Hello") What I've Verified: FoundationModels.framework exists in /System/Library/Frameworks/ Framework is properly linked in Xcode project Apple Intelligence is enabled and working Same code works in older beta versions Issue persists even with completely fresh Xcode projects Analysis: The dyld error suggests the LanguageModelSession(model:) constructor is missing. The symbol shows it's looking for a constructor with parameters (model:guardrails:tools:instructions:), but the documentation still shows the simple (model:) constructor. Questions: Has the LanguageModelSession API changed since Beta 2? Should we now use the constructor with guardrails/tools/instructions parameters? Is this a known issue with recent betas? Are there updated code samples for the current API? Additional Context: This affects both basic SystemLanguageModel usage AND custom adapter loading. The same dyld symbol errors occur when trying to create SystemLanguageModel(adapter: adapter) as well. Any guidance on the correct API usage for current betas would be greatly appreciated. The documentation appears to be out of sync with the actual framework implementation.

Cannot find 'SystemLanguageModel' in scope
Hi everyone, I am using Xcode 16.4 in MacOS Sequoia 15.5 with Apple Intelligence turned on. The following code gives the error message in the title: import NaturalLanguage @available(iOS 18.0, *) func testSystemModel() { let model = SystemLanguageModel.default print(model) } What am I missing?

CoreML: Model loading utilities
