Can you use an external macOS device as an Xcode run destination?
Just wondering if it is possible to configure a secondary macbook to act as a run destination in Xcode, similar to how you would configure an iPhone as a run destination. I have tried connecting my device via USB-C and I can see that my macbook detects the second macbook via USB but it does not show up when trying to add devices in Xcode. I suppose this flow might not be supported?

Trouble Distributing iOS + WatchOS App as a Bundle (Info.plist / Target Confusion)
Hi all, I’m running into an issue with my iOS + Apple Watch app project, and I could really use some advice. My WatchOS app requires an iOS companion for settings and configuration, so both apps need to be distributed together. Here’s how I structured my Xcode project: Main iOS App target WatchOS App target WatchOS Extension target However, I’m very confused about how these targets interact, and things are not working as expected. The problem: I can build and run the WatchOS app and its extension independently in the simulator by selecting their schemes. When I select the main iOS app scheme, I get an error about ITSWatchOnlyContainer in the Info.plist—even though there’s no Info tab for that target in Xcode. I’m able to distribute the WatchOS app by itself, and the extension as well. But I can’t distribute them bundled together as a single package, and I haven’t found any clear resources that explain how to fix this. This is my very first app, and it’s frustrating to get stuck just before the finish line! Project Structure / steps to reproduce Let’s say my project is called MyAppProject, with these targets: MyAppProject Main iOS App Embedded target: MyAppProject Watch App Bundle identifier: com.example.MyAppProject MyAppProject Watch App WKCompanionAppBundleIdentifier: com.example.MyAppProject “Requires iOS App”: YES MyAppProject Extension Bundle identifier: com.example.MyAppProject When running from the MyAppProject scheme, I get this error (even though I can’t see or edit the Info.plist in Xcode for this target): “Please try again later. This app has the ITSWatchOnlyContainer key set in its Info.plist, which identifies it as a shell app surrounding a Watch-only app; these are not installable.” As a result, I can’t distribute the app as a bundle. I’d appreciate help understanding: How should the Info.plist files be configured for each target? What do I do if the Info.plist path seems missing in the Xcode UI? Is there a “correct” way to structure an iOS + WatchOS app for bundled distribution?

Authentication issue from Expo EAS CLI
Hello, I am experiencing an authentication issue when submitting my Expo iOS app to App Store Connect using the Expo EAS CLI from the terminal. The exact flow is as follows: I run the submit command in the terminal. I am prompted to enter my Apple ID. After entering the Apple ID, I am prompted to enter my Apple ID password. After the password is accepted, I am prompted to enter a 6-digit verification code. I receive the 6-digit code immediately via SMS or phone call. I enter the code correctly and immediately, but the CLI always returns “Invalid code.” This happens every time. Important notes: The Apple ID and password are correct. The 6-digit code is entered immediately and exactly as received. Logging in to App Store Connect via a web browser with the same Apple ID, password, and SMS code works without any issue. The problem only occurs when authenticating through the terminal using Expo EAS CLI. Could you please advise why the verification code is being rejected in the CLI and how I can successfully authenticate and submit my app?

Objective-C headers build fine with swift but not with Xcode
On my M4 Mac running macOS 15.5 using Xcode 16.4 & Xcode CLT 16.4, Swift code in my Swift Package Manager 5.9 project (https://github.com/mas-cli/mas) builds fine against some included Objective-C headers via the following command line: swift build -c release But cannot find modules for the included Objective-C headers when building inside Xcode 16.4 or with the following command line on the same Mac: xcodebuild -scheme mas -configuration Release -destination platform=macOS,arch=arm64,variant=macos The error is: Sources/mas/AppStore/AppleAccount.swift:9:16: error: no such module 'StoreFoundation' How can I get Xcode / xcodebuild to work? Note that the project is normally built by running: Scripts/build which runs: swift build -c release after running the following script, which must be run before any build (swift, Xcode, or xcodebuild) because it generates a necessary file (Sources/mas/Package.swift): Scripts/generate_package_swift I've tried moving the Objective-C headers into include subfolders of their existing module folders, using double quotes instead of angle brackets for the #import statements, having module.modulemap files in the include subfolders or their parent module folder, and moving the module folders one level up the file hierarchy, to no avail. I've also tried various changes to the root-level Package.swift (not the generated one deeper in the hierarchy, which isn't inclined in the build configuration), like making separate library targets for each of the Objective-C modules, various swiftSettings & linkerSettings, etc. Maybe some of those changes would have helped, but maybe they were in incorrect combinations. Thanks for any help.

Unable to Enable “Media Services (MusicKit, ShazamKit)” When Creating a Key
I am trying to integrate Apple Music API using MusicKit and need to generate a Developer Token. However, when I try to create a new key from the Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles section, the “Media Services (MusicKit, ShazamKit, Apple Music Feed)” option is grayed out. We are getting the error 'there are no identifiers available that can be associated with the key.' Although we did checkmark 'musickit' in app services. I have already: Enrolled in the paid Apple Developer Program Created a valid App ID under Identifiers Logged in as the Account Holder Tried multiple browsers and devices Despite this, the option remains disabled. Could you please enable this or let me know what further steps I need to take? Thank you!

Does Xcode still support capturing GPU workload for OpenGLES game app on iOS?
As far as I know, there was a time that you can capture GPU workload for opengles game app on iOS using Xcode. However, currently I'm using Xcode version 15.2 and iOS18,it seems the "capture GPU workload" button is always disabled when I'm trying to debug my game app which is using opengles api for graphics rendering no matter switchinng "GPU Frame Capture" to "OpenGL ES" or "Metal" or "Automatically" in the scheme. And I'm not able to capture GPU workload for my game on iOS. The only way to make the "capture GPU workload" button enabled is creating a new project using metal api for graphics rendering. But I don't want to change the graphics API, because it will cause a lot. Does Xcode still support capturing GPU workload for OpenGLES game app on iOS? If not, is there an alternative way?

WatchOS app - installation not working
Hi everyone, I’ve been trying since yesterday to set up an Apple Watch app alongside my iOS app, but it’s not working at all. I created the app by adding a new target, selected watchOS > App, and linked it to my iOS project. When I run the Apple Watch scheme directly, the app works, but if I try to install it on my Apple Watch via the iOS app, it doesn’t work. Every time I tap install, I get a message saying that the installation failed. While reading the documentation, they mention an Info.plist file that is supposed to be generated with the watchOS app, but when I check, I don’t see any .plist file. Is that normal? Thanks for your help.

Xcode does not see code changes in local Swift packages (autocomplete wrong, errors shown, but still compiles)
Hey, I've been having a lot of problems with Xcode 16 not seeing changes made to code in local Swift packages (the packages are inside the root directory of the project). Whenever I make any change like renaming a variable or type, or adding new methods or whatever, autocomplete doesn't see those changes and when I type in that new type/variable manually it gives me an error. However, building the project still works fine, even with the errors never going away. The only way for it to notice the code changes is to clean the project and build it again which takes a long time. At first, I thought this was connected to the new "Explicitly built modules" feature in Xcode 16, but I turned it off and it still happens. Any ideas what I can try? I'm on the latest Xcode version, but this problem has been happening since Xcode 16 originally came out. Thanks! Dennis

xcode 16.3 now not selecting correct Signing Certificate with Automatically Manage Signing Selected
HI, I upgraded to macos 15.5 and xcode 16.3. Last year I was able to update one of my apps on the App Store without issues. Today, after a successful Testflight test, I now need to submit a new version of my app to the App Store for Distribution as the next version/build. However, when I configure a manual setting for the signing, I can select the correct choices. But when I click automatically manage signing, and choose the correct team, xcode put in the wrong signing certificate. It is choose a development one, and not the distribution one. I am concerned about this since I have read that when using the Archive tool, it choses the automatically manage signing by default. And that check box is selecting the "default" settings. I do not know where these default settings are being set, or how to fix this issue. I do not see any info in my searching up to this point. I hope someone can help. thank you, cc

Refactor->Rename "Refactoring Engine Failure"
For Xcode 15 and Xcode 16, whenever I try to use the Refactor->Rename command I get a spinning busy cursor for a short while then I get an alert that says: Rename Failed Refactoring engine failure. This happens on several projects and I've tried removing the derived data folder, but am at a loss to find additional troubleshooting steps. Are there other files I might remove or reset to get my "Refactoring Engine" back into shape?

Persistent Sandbox Denials When Building with Capacitor and CocoaPods in Xcode
I am a solo developer building a cross-platform voice assistant app using Capacitor (with HTML, JS) and Xcode for the iOS version. The app is called "Echo Eyes," and it already functions well as a Progressive Web App (PWA). However, the iOS build has been completely blocked due to persistent sandbox permission errors from macOS during the CocoaPods framework embedding phase. This issue has caused severe disruption to my project and personal well-being, and I am writing to formally request assistance in identifying a clear solution. I am not a beginner and have followed all known best practices, forums, and Apple guidance without success. What I’ve Built So Far: Fully working PWA version of the app (voice input, HTML/JS interface) Capacitor initialized with ID: com.echo.eyes.voice Capacitor iOS platform added with CocoaPods App runs fine until Xcode reaches: [CP] Embed Pods Frameworks The Exact Problem: Sandbox: bash(12319) deny(1) file-read-data /Users/Shared/projects/Echo_Mobile/ios/App/Pods/Target Support Files/Pods-App/Pods-App-frameworks.sh Command PhaseScriptExecution failed with a nonzero exit code Clarification: This is not an HTML/JS issue. The failure occurs in Xcode long before web assets are embedded into the bundle. The shell script /Pods-App-frameworks.sh cannot be read due to macOS sandbox restrictions. Everything I’ve Tried: Gave Xcode and Terminal Full Disk Access Ran: sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine on the entire Pods directory Added /bin/bash and /bin/sh to Full Disk Access (after confirming the exact shell via $SHELL) Attempted to disable Gatekeeper via Terminal: sudo spctl --master-disable (confirmed not effective without GUI toggle) Tried relocating project to /Users/Shared/projects/ Cleaned build folder, removed derived data, reinstalled pods Debugged shell usage with: echo "▶️ Embedding under shell: $SHELL" in the [CP] Embed Pods Frameworks script Attempted to grant shell access to Documents Folder, Desktop, and more via Files & Folders Current State: Despite following all known and recommended steps, Xcode continues to return the same sandbox error. The shell script that embeds the CocoaPod frameworks is denied permission to read its own contents by macOS. What I Am Asking For: Is this a known issue in current versions of macOS or Xcode regarding sandbox denial for shell execution inside Pods? Is there a recommended method to grant /bin/bash or /bin/sh permission to read and run these scripts under Xcode without compromising system security? Is moving the project outside /Users (e.g. to /Projects) the only real workaround? Are there official Apple workarounds or entitlements available for developers encountering this? Personal Note: This issue has caused significant emotional and physical distress. I’m building this app as a personal healing tool and companion. I’ve poured months of work into this and done everything I can to follow Apple’s development guidelines. I’m not asking for hand-holding — only a clear, respectful response confirming whether this is expected behavior and what can be done to resolve it. Thank you for your time and understanding.

Unexpected app version in logs — does MARKETING_VERSION change dynamically?
Hello, I've encountered unexpected behavior related to version information in our app logs, and I'd like to ask for some advice. We reviewed logs collected from a user running our app (currently available on the App Store). The logs are designed to include both the build number and the app version. Based on the build number in the logs, we believe the installed app version on the user's device is 1.0.3. However, the app version recorded in the logs is 1.1.5, which is the latest version currently available on the App Store. In our project, we set the app version using the MARKETING_VERSION environment variable. This value is configured via XcodeGen, and we define it in a YAML file. Under normal circumstances, the value defined in the YAML file (MARKETING_VERSION = 1.0.3) should be embedded in the app and reflected in the logs. But in this case, the version from the current App Store release (1.1.5) appears instead, which was unexpected. We'd like to know what might cause this behavior, and if there are any known factors that could lead to this. Also, is it possible that MARKETING_VERSION might somehow dynamically reflect the version currently available on the App Store? YAML: info.plist:

Trouble Distributing iOS + WatchOS App as a Bundle (Info.plist / Target Confusion)
Hi all, I’m running into an issue with my iOS + Apple Watch app project, and I could really use some advice.

Refactor->Rename "Refactoring Engine Failure"

Xcode 16.3 Pods Compilation Issue
I am on MacOs 15.4.1 which is being deployed with an old version of Ruby ruby 2.6.10 and bundler version 1.17.2. I ran pod install after generating the pods with these versions and during the application compilation there have been several issues reported against pods code.

YAML: info.plist:

iOS 15.0 Minimum deployment version
Hi, I'm trying to plan some roadmaps out and also have some issues with ios 15.0. Since it's no longer supported by Apple, any word on if/when iOS 15.0 will be removed from the "minimum deployment" version list in Xcode?
