Audio DSP Processing Issue / Metallic Ringing Artifacts when recording acoustic instruments on iPhone 17 Pro Max
Description: I have identified a specific issue when recording acoustic guitar and other instruments on the iPhone 17 Pro Max using native applications (Voice Memos, Camera). The recordings contain an unnatural metallic resonance (ringing artifacts) that should not be present. Testing and Methodology: Hardware Verification: Initially, I suspected a hardware defect in the audio chip or microphone. However, extensive testing with third-party software suggests this is likely a software-level issue. AudioShare Test: I conducted a test using the AudioShare app in "Measurement Mode" (which bypasses standard iOS system-wide audio processing). In this mode, the audio remains perfectly clean, and the metallic ringing disappears entirely. Conclusion: The issue is rooted in the DSP (Digital Signal Processing) algorithms that iOS applies for noise suppression or voice enhancement. These algorithms appear to misinterpret the high-frequency overtones of acoustic instruments as background noise and attempt to "filter" them, resulting in audible digital artifacts. Comparison Results: This issue has not been observed on devices from other brands or on older iPhone models (preliminary tests suggest older versions handle this better). Notably, the problem persists even in GarageBand, as the app still utilizes certain system-level processing layers. Proposed Solution: I suggest adding a "Raw Audio" or "Instrument Mode" toggle within the Microphone/Audio settings for native apps. This mode should disable aggressive DSP processing, similar to how the AVAudioSession.Mode.measurement works in specialized apps. Attachments: I am attaching 4 archives, including a final "Measurement Mode" folder with comparative samples (Measurement Mode vs. Standard Mode). The artifacts are most prominent when monitored through headphones.

Clarification of use of `AVAssetDownloadConfiguration` and `AVAssetDownloadTask` to persist MP3 Audio downloads/streams
Hello! I have been following the UsingAVFoundationToPlayAndPersistHTTPLiveStreams sample code in order to test persisting streams to disk. In addition to support for m3u8, I have noticed in testing that this also seems to work for MP3 Audio, simply by changing the plist entries to point to remote URLs with audio/mpeg content. Is this expected, or are there caveats that I should be aware of? Thanks you!

Track changes in the browser tab's audibility property.
Hi! I am writing a browser extension that allows you to control the playback of media content on a music service website. Unfortunately Safari does not support tracking changes to the audible property in an event tabs.onUpdated. Is there an alternative to this event? I'm looking for a way to track when the automatic inference engine interrupts playback on a music service website. That you.

CMFormatDescription.audioStreamBasicDescription has wrong or unexpected sample rate for audio channels with different sample rates
In my app I use AVAssetReaderTrackOutput to extract PCM audio from a user-provided video or audio file and display it as a waveform. Recently a user reported that the waveform is not in sync with his video, and after receiving the video I noticed that the waveform is in fact double as long as the video duration, i.e. it shows the audio in slow-motion, so to speak. Until now I was using CMFormatDescription.audioStreamBasicDescription.mSampleRate which for this particular user video returns 22'050. But in this case it seems that this value is wrong... because the audio file has two audio channels with different sample rates, as returned by CMFormatDescription.audioFormatList.map({ $0.mASBD.mSampleRate }) The first channel has a sample rate of 44'100, the second one 22'050. If I use the first sample rate, the waveform is perfectly in sync with the video. The problem is given by the fact that the ratio between the audio data length and the sample rate multiplied by the audio duration is 8, double the ratio for the first audio file (4). In the code below this ratio is given by Double(length) / (sampleRate * asset.duration.seconds) When commenting out the line with the sampleRate variable definition in the code below and uncommenting the following line, the ratios for both audio files are 4, which is the expected result. I would expect audioStreamBasicDescription to return the correct sample rate, i.e. the one used by AVAssetReaderTrackOutput, which (I think) somehow merges the stereo tracks. The documentation is sparse, and in particular it’s not documented whether the lower or higher sample rate is used; in this case, it seems like the higher one is used, but audioStreamBasicDescription for some reason returns the lower one. Does anybody know why this is the case or how I should extract the sample rate of the produced PCM audio data? Should I always take the higher one? I created FB19620455. let openPanel = NSOpenPanel() openPanel.allowedContentTypes = [.audiovisualContent] openPanel.runModal() let url = openPanel.urls[0] let asset = AVURLAsset(url: url) let assetTrack = asset.tracks(withMediaType: .audio)[0] let assetReader = try! AVAssetReader(asset: asset) let readerOutput = AVAssetReaderTrackOutput(track: assetTrack, outputSettings: [AVFormatIDKey: Int(kAudioFormatLinearPCM), AVLinearPCMBitDepthKey: 16, AVLinearPCMIsBigEndianKey: false, AVLinearPCMIsFloatKey: false, AVLinearPCMIsNonInterleaved: false]) readerOutput.alwaysCopiesSampleData = false assetReader.add(readerOutput) let formatDescriptions = assetTrack.formatDescriptions as! [CMFormatDescription] let sampleRate = formatDescriptions[0].audioStreamBasicDescription!.mSampleRate //let sampleRate = formatDescriptions[0].audioFormatList.map({ $0.mASBD.mSampleRate }).max()! print(formatDescriptions[0].audioStreamBasicDescription!.mSampleRate) print(formatDescriptions[0].audioFormatList.map({ $0.mASBD.mSampleRate })) if !assetReader.startReading() { preconditionFailure() } var length = 0 while assetReader.status == .reading { guard let sampleBuffer = readerOutput.copyNextSampleBuffer(), let blockBuffer = sampleBuffer.dataBuffer else { break } length += blockBuffer.dataLength } print(Double(length) / (sampleRate * asset.duration.seconds))

macOS 26.4 regression with Mac Catalyst apps using PhotoKit: Photos do not appear when using limited access - Failed to get sandbox extension for url - Image request failed with error PHPhotosErrorDomain Code 3303
I just submitted FB22318443. In Mac Catalyst apps running on macOS 26.4, if you choose to limit the app's access to specific photos (as opposed to granting full access), the photos do not appear in the app. 💀 This issue does not occur on iPadOS. It is a macOS 26.4 regression. It occurs even with apps built using a previous version of the SDK such as 26.2. Virtual Camera Shows Jittering Frames and Solid Accent Color on macOS
Hello Apple Developer Support, I’m developing a virtual camera using the CMIOExtensionDevice / CMIOExtensionStreamSource APIs on macOS. While the virtual camera appears in system settings and apps like Zoom and Google Meet, the video output exhibits the following issues: Jittering frames: The first frame sometimes appears correctly, but subsequent frames flicker or jitter. Solid color fill: Eventually, the camera feed fills entirely with a solid accent color (e.g., blue), rather than the intended video content. Console logs: Repeated messages appear in Console.app: Invalid display 0x00000000 Setup details: The virtual camera is created using CMIOExtensionDevice and CMIOExtensionStream. Video frames are rendered from NSImage/CGImage using CGContext and copied into CVPixelBuffers. Frame delivery is controlled by a DispatchSourceTimer at 60 FPS. macOS version: [Your macOS version here] Xcode version: [Your Xcode version here] Observations: The Invalid display 0x00000000 logs suggest that CGContext drawing or NSImage operations are failing in headless mode (i.e., there is no real display attached to the virtual camera). Using CIContext with .useSoftwareRenderer = true appears to mitigate some flicker, but not entirely. Questions / Requests: Is it expected that CoreMediaIO virtual cameras cannot reliably render CGImage / NSImage frames offscreen? Are there recommended APIs or approaches to render virtual camera frames fully headless to avoid display-dependent jitter? Is there any documentation or sample code from Apple showing stable video output from a virtual camera extension that does not rely on a physical display? Any guidance or examples would be greatly appreciated. This issue prevents the virtual camera from being used reliably in standard video apps. Thank you, Savvy

Apple Music web player will not work on wkwebview web browser or electron chromium browser.
Hello, I'm trying to create a webbrowser but currently when signed into apple music webplayer I get the following message when I attempt to play on any versions of my webbrowser: Not available on the web You can listen to this in the Apple Music app. Is there a way to setup DRM (assuming this is the issue) with apple to allow my webbrowser to play this content? I believe Apple TV is also affected. Thank you ahead of time.

How To Integrating iOS 26 Spatial Photos Feature into Third-Party iPhone App
Dear Apple Technical Support Team, Greetings! I am an iOS app developer, currently upgrading the functions of the photo app I developed Recently, I noticed the new Spatial Photos feature added in the iOS 26 system, which brings an immersive 3D photo experience to users. We hope to integrate similar capabilities into our own app to provide users with a richer photo viewing experience. Through technical research, we found that on Apple Vision devices, the similar spatial photo display effect can be achieved through the ImagePresentationComponent.Spatial3DImage interface. However, our tests show that this interface only supports visionOS and cannot be called in the iOS system. At present, iOS 26 already natively supports the Spatial Photos feature, and we hope to know how to enable third-party photo apps to also have this capability. Here, we sincerely request your team to provide relevant technical support, mainly to understand the following questions: Are there any official APIs, SDKs, or development frameworks applicable to the iOS 26 system that can support third-party apps to implement core functions such as the generation and display of spatial photos? If there are no public adaptive interfaces available at present, are there any other compliant technical solutions or alternative paths to achieve similar effects? For third-party apps to integrate the spatial photo feature, are there any relevant development documents, technical specifications, or review requirements that need to be followed? We have completed the basic function iteration of the app and have the technical capability to quickly adapt to new functions. We hope to receive guidance and support from your team to help us bring a better product experience to iOS users. Attached are the relevant information of our app and the detailed report on interface compatibility during the test for your reference. If you need any further supplementary information, please feel free to inform us. Thank you for reviewing this email in your busy schedule, and we look forward to your reply!

AVCam Sample Code - Undesired "Jump" in Video Recording Image
On iPhone 16 Pro Max (not tested other devices) there's a noticeable jump in the framing of the preview video when you record in the iOS AVCam Sample App. The same jump in camera framing can be observed by switching to the front facing camera and then back to the rear one. It looks roughly consistent with switching between the 0.5x and 1x camera (but not quite a match for the same viewable area in the Camera app) - and it's only when it's initially loaded, once recording is started it retains the 'closer' image no matter how many times it's stopped/started thereafter. I'm relatively new to Swift and haven't done anything with the camera before, so odd 'buggy' behaviour in the sample code isn't helping me understand it! :-) Is there any way to fix this?

AVSpeechUtterance stutters in CarPlay when connected to a BT headset
We are currently working on a CarPlay navigation app and so far everything is working well except for speaking turn notifications. Our TTS implementation works fine on the phone and works fine on CarPlay if the voice is spoken over the speaker in the car. If users connect a BT headset to the car and listen through that headset, then the voice commands are chopped up / stutter. Why would users use BT headset? Well, we are working on a motorcycle app, and there are no speakers usually on a motorcycle. It sounds like the BT channel is opened and closed repeatedly for every character / word spoken. This happens on different CarPlay devices and different Bluetooth headsets, we have reports from multiple users that they find this behavior annoying and that other apps work fine. Is this a known issue? Are there possible workaround?

Repeated NUIdentifier crash
Some of our app's users are repeatedly running into a crash on NeutrinoCore -[NUIdentifier initWithNamespace:name:version:] + 2352. It looks from the stack trace like multiple threads are performing PHFetchRequests, but that shouldn't be causing a crash. It's isolated to a small number of users, which makes me think that it's something related to their specific Photos databases (e.g., data corruption.) MusicKit - Not showing as a capability in Xcode
A bit of a novice to app development here but I have a paid developer account, I have registered the identifier for MusicKit on the developer website (using the bundle identifier I've selected in Xcode) but the option to add MusicKit as a capability is not available in Xcode? I've manually updated the certificates, closed the app and reopened it, started a new project and tried with a different demo project? Apologies if I am missing something obvious but could someone help me get this capability added?

Apple News Publisher: How To Successfully Apply
Hi there, Can anyone tell me how to possibly get approved as an Apple News Publisher in 2025? We attempted in 2024, but received this message from Apple support: "Thank you for your interest in Apple News. At this time, we're not accepting new applications." When I inquired further, I got this second response: "Apple News is no longer accepting unsolicited applications. To learn more about Apple News requirements, visit the Apple News support page. If you have any feedback, please use this form to send us your comments. Keep in mind that while we read all feedback, we are unable to respond to each submission individually." My questions are: Is this still the case? (Especially when you are a legit local news outlet) Is there a link to apply as a news publisher? I don't seem to have that option at all. Thanks for any feedback.

MIDI output form Standalone MIDI Processor Demo App to DAW
I am trying to get MIDI output from the AU Host demo app using the recent MIDI processor example. The processor works correctly in Logic Pro, but I cannot send MIDI from the AUv3 extension in standalone mode using the default host app to another program (e.g., Ableton). The MIDI manager, which is part of the standalone host app, works fine, and I can send MIDI using it directly—Ableton receives it without issues. I have already set the midiOutputNames in the extension, and the midiOutBlock is mapped. However, the MIDI data from the AUv3 extension does not reach Ableton in standalone mode. I suspect the issue is that midiOutBlock might never be called in the plugin, or perhaps an input to the plugin is missing, which prevents it from sending MIDI. I am currently using the default routing. I have modified the MIDI manager such that it works well as described above. Here is a part of my code for SimplePlayEngine.swift and my MIDIManager.swift for reference: @MainActor @Observable public class SimplePlayEngine { private let midiOutBlock: AUMIDIOutputEventBlock = { sampleTime, cable, length, data in return noErr } var scheduleMIDIEventListBlock: AUMIDIEventListBlock? = nil public init() { engine.attach(player) engine.prepare() setupMIDI() } private func setupMIDI() { if !MIDIManager.shared.setupPort(midiProtocol: MIDIProtocolID._2_0, receiveBlock: { [weak self] eventList, _ in if let scheduleMIDIEventListBlock = self?.scheduleMIDIEventListBlock { _ = scheduleMIDIEventListBlock(AUEventSampleTimeImmediate, 0, eventList) } }) { fatalError("Failed to setup Core MIDI") } } func initComponent(type: String, subType: String, manufacturer: String) async -> ViewController? { reset() guard let component = AVAudioUnit.findComponent(type: type, subType: subType, manufacturer: manufacturer) else { fatalError("Failed to find component with type: \(type), subtype: \(subType), manufacturer: \(manufacturer))" ) } do { let audioUnit = try await AVAudioUnit.instantiate( with: component.audioComponentDescription, options: AudioComponentInstantiationOptions.loadOutOfProcess) self.avAudioUnit = audioUnit self.connect(avAudioUnit: audioUnit) return await audioUnit.loadAudioUnitViewController() } catch { return nil } } private func startPlayingInternal() { guard let avAudioUnit = self.avAudioUnit else { return } setSessionActive(true) if avAudioUnit.wantsAudioInput { scheduleEffectLoop() } let hardwareFormat = engine.outputNode.outputFormat(forBus: 0) engine.connect(engine.mainMixerNode, to: engine.outputNode, format: hardwareFormat) do { try engine.start() } catch { isPlaying = false fatalError("Could not start engine. error: \(error).") } if avAudioUnit.wantsAudioInput { player.play() } isPlaying = true } private func resetAudioLoop() { guard let avAudioUnit = self.avAudioUnit else { return } if avAudioUnit.wantsAudioInput { guard let format = file?.processingFormat else { fatalError("No AVAudioFile defined.") } engine.connect(player, to: engine.mainMixerNode, format: format) } } public func connect(avAudioUnit: AVAudioUnit?, completion: @escaping (() -> Void) = {}) { guard let avAudioUnit = self.avAudioUnit else { return } engine.disconnectNodeInput(engine.mainMixerNode) resetAudioLoop() engine.detach(avAudioUnit) func rewiringComplete() { scheduleMIDIEventListBlock = auAudioUnit.scheduleMIDIEventListBlock if isPlaying { player.play() } completion() } let hardwareFormat = engine.outputNode.outputFormat(forBus: 0) engine.connect(engine.mainMixerNode, to: engine.outputNode, format: hardwareFormat) if isPlaying { player.pause() } let auAudioUnit = avAudioUnit.auAudioUnit if !auAudioUnit.midiOutputNames.isEmpty { auAudioUnit.midiOutputEventBlock = midiOutBlock } engine.attach(avAudioUnit) if avAudioUnit.wantsAudioInput { engine.disconnectNodeInput(engine.mainMixerNode) if let format = file?.processingFormat { engine.connect(player, to: avAudioUnit, format: format) engine.connect(avAudioUnit, to: engine.mainMixerNode, format: format) } } else { let stereoFormat = AVAudioFormat(standardFormatWithSampleRate: hardwareFormat.sampleRate, channels: 2) engine.connect(avAudioUnit, to: engine.mainMixerNode, format: stereoFormat) } rewiringComplete() } } and my MIDI Manager @MainActor class MIDIManager: Identifiable, ObservableObject { func setupPort(midiProtocol: MIDIProtocolID, receiveBlock: @escaping @Sendable MIDIReceiveBlock) -> Bool { guard setupClient() else { return false } if MIDIInputPortCreateWithProtocol(client, portName, midiProtocol, &port, receiveBlock) != noErr { return false } for source in self.sources { if MIDIPortConnectSource(port, source, nil) != noErr { print("Failed to connect to source \(source)") return false } } setupVirtualMIDIOutput() return true } private func setupVirtualMIDIOutput() { let virtualStatus = MIDISourceCreate(client, virtualSourceName, &virtualSource) if virtualStatus != noErr { print("❌ Failed to create virtual MIDI source: \(virtualStatus)") } else { print("✅ Created virtual MIDI source: \(virtualSourceName)") } } func sendMIDIData(_ data: [UInt8]) { print("hey") var packetList = MIDIPacketList() withUnsafeMutablePointer(to: &packetList) { ptr in let pkt = MIDIPacketListInit(ptr) _ = MIDIPacketListAdd(ptr, 1024, pkt, 0, data.count, data) if virtualSource != 0 { let status = MIDIReceived(virtualSource, ptr) if status != noErr { print("❌ Failed to send MIDI data: \(status)") } else { print("✅ Sent MIDI data: \(data)") } } } } }

Accessory not supported by this device
Hi, I've had a new deck installed in my car for about 1.5 weeks. I'm having compatibility issues with my 15PM. It happens both wired and wirelessly, I get the error "Accessory not supported by this device". It used to happen all the time, now it's 50/50. Sometimes it works. I've removed and added Bluetooth multiple times on phone and deck, I bought a belkin usb-c to usb-a cable today and it seems to fix it but the problem comes back. I've changed the setting "FaceID and passcode-allow access when locked-accessories." The car stereo guy reckons it's definitely an issue with the phone not the deck, I'm inclined to believe him since the error states "by this device". Any advice appreciated.

How to disable the built-in speakers and microphone on a Mac
I need to implement a solution through an API or custom driver to completely block out the built-in speakers and microphone of Mac, because I need other apps to use specified external devices as audio input and output. Is there a way to achieve this requirement? What I mean is that even in system preferences, it should not be possible to choose the built-in microphone and speakers; only my external device can be used.

Number of songs in the Apple Music Feed
Hello, I'm evaluating the Apple Music Feed dataset and I noticed that the total number of songs available in the feed is too small. As of today, the number of objects returned in each feed is: 51,198,712 albums 23,093,698 artists 173,235,315 songs This gives an average of 3.38 songs per album which is quite low. Also, iterating on the data I see that there are albums referencing songs that don't exist in the songs feed. I would like to know: Is the feed data incomplete? If so, in what situations an object may be missing from the feed? Thank you in advance!

Question about Apple Vision Pro audio input sampling rate for research
I am a graduate student conducting research in speech/audio signal processing and multimodal interaction. Apple Vision Pro is widely recognized as a multimodal interactive system supporting voice, eye, and gesture inputs. However, I could not find detailed specifications or documentation about the audio input sampling rate used by the device’s built-in microphone array when capturing user audio. Specifically, I would like to understand: What is the default audio input sampling rate (e.g., 16 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, etc.) for the Vision Pro’s microphones? When developing with visionOS / AVAudioSession / AVAudioEngine, is there a documented or recommended sampling rate for audio capture? Are there any best practices or settings for enabling high-quality voice capture on Vision Pro (especially for voice research tasks)? For context, my work involves voice processing, analysis, and possibly on-device real-time speech recognition. Any pointers to relevant APIs, documentation or examples (especially regarding audio capture buffer size or available formats on visionOS) would be very helpful. Thank you in advance! Best regards.

A sample of the console logs: [RM]: 4-1-1 failed to decode for asset: 9290CC20-B85D-47B5-BDBE-D330FE61773D, error code: 3303, description: Error Domain=PHPhotosErrorDomain Code=3303 "(null)" Failed to get sandbox extension for url: file:///Users/Jordan/Pictures/Photos%20Library.photoslibrary/resources/derivatives/masters/9/9290CC20-B85D-47B5-BDBE-D330FE61773D_4_5005_c.jpeg, error: Error Domain=com.apple.photos.error Code=44001 "sandbox extension not in the cache after requesting them for path: /Users/Jordan/Pictures/Photos Library.photoslibrary/resources/derivatives/masters/9/9290CC20-B85D-47B5-BDBE-D330FE61773D_4_5005_c.jpeg" UserInfo={NSDebugDescription=sandbox extension not in the cache after requesting them for path: /Users/Jordan/Pictures/Photos Library.photoslibrary/resources/derivatives/masters/9/9290CC20-B85D-47B5-BDBE-D330FE61773D_4_5005_c.jpeg} [RM]: 1-1-1 Image request failed with error: Error Domain=PHPhotosErrorDomain Code=3303 "(null)"

It's isolated to a small number of users, which makes me think that it's something related to their specific Photos databases (e.g., data corruption.) Do you have any suggestions how I might be able to resolve this? 2 libsystem_c.dylib abort + 124 3 NeutrinoCore -[NUAssertionPolicyCrashReport notifyAssertion:] + 66 4 NeutrinoCore -[NUAssertionPolicyComposite notifyAssertion:] + 160 5 NeutrinoCore -[NUAssertionPolicyUnique notifyAssertion:] + 176 6 NeutrinoCore -[NUAssertionHandler handleFailureInFunction:file:lineNumber:currentlyExecutingJobName:description:arguments:] + 156 7 NeutrinoCore _NUAssertFailHandler + 176 8 NeutrinoCore -[NUIdentifier initWithNamespace:name:version:] + 2352 9 NeutrinoCore -[NUIdentifier initWithName:version:] + 84 10 NeutrinoCore -[NUIdentifier initWithName:] + 68 11 PhotoImaging +[PISchema identifier] + 36 12 PhotoImaging +[PISchema registeredPhotosSchemaIdentifier] + 32 13 PhotoImaging +[PIPhotoEditHelper newComposition] + 28 14 PhotoImaging +[PICompositionSerializer deserializeCompositionFromAdjustments:metadata:formatIdentifier:formatVersion:sidecarData:error:] + 160 15 PhotoImaging +[PICompositionSerializer deserializeCompositionFromData:formatIdentifier:formatVersion:sidecarData:error:] + 224 16 PhotoLibraryServices -[PLPhotoEditPersistenceManager loadCompositionFrom:formatIdentifier:formatVersion:sidecarData:error:] + 1848 17 PhotoLibraryServices +[PLPhotoEditPersistenceManager validateAdjustmentData:formatIdentifier:formatVersion:error:] + 108 18 Photos __167+[PHContentEditingInputRequestContext contentEditingInputRequestContextForAsset:requestID:managerID:networkAccessAllowed:downloadIntent:progressHandler:resultHandler:]_block_invoke + 260 19 Photos -[PHAdjustmentData(ContentEditingInput) _contentEditing_readableByClientWithVerificationBlock:] + 136 20 Photos -[PHAdjustmentData(ContentEditingInput) _contentEditing_requiredBaseVersionReadableByClient:verificationBlock:] + 88 21 Photos -[PHContentEditingInputRequestContext _adjustmentBaseVersionFromResult:request:canHandleAdjustmentData:] + 356 22 Photos -[PHContentEditingInputRequestContext produceChildRequestsForRequest:reportingIsLocallyAvailable:isDegraded:result:] + 624 23 Photos -[PHMediaRequestContext _produceChildRequestsForRequest:withResult:] + 88 24 Photos -[PHMediaRequestContext mediaRequest:didFinishWithResult:] + 92 25 Photos -[PHAdjustmentDataRequest _finishFromAsynchronousCallback] + 124 26 Photos __39-[PHAdjustmentDataRequest startRequest]_block_invoke + 584 27 PhotoLibraryServicesCore __106-[PLAssetsdResourceClient adjustmentDataForAsset:networkAccessAllowed:trackCPLDownload:completionHandler:]block_invoke.84 + 880 28 CoreFoundation invoking + 148 29 CoreFoundation -[NSInvocation invoke] + 424 30 Foundation <deduplicated_symbol> + 16 31 Foundation -[NSXPCConnection _decodeAndInvokeReplyBlockWithEvent:sequence:replyInfo:] + 528 32 Foundation __88-[NSXPCConnection _sendInvocation:orArguments:count:methodSignature:selector:withProxy:]_block_invoke_5 + 188 33 libxpc.dylib _xpc_connection_reply_callout + 124 42 libsystem_pthread.dylib start_wqthread + 8

MusicKit - Not showing as a capability in Xcode

I am trying to get MIDI output from the AU Host demo app using the recent MIDI processor example. The processor works correctly in Logic Pro, but I cannot send MIDI from the AUv3 extension in standalone mode using the default host app to another program (e.g., Ableton). The MIDI manager, which is part of the standalone host app, works fine, and I can send MIDI using it directly—Ableton receives it without issues. I have already set the midiOutputNames in the extension, and the midiOutBlock is mapped. However, the MIDI data from the AUv3 extension does not reach Ableton in standalone mode. I suspect the issue is that midiOutBlock might never be called in the plugin, or perhaps an input to the plugin is missing, which prevents it from sending MIDI. I am currently using the default routing. I have modified the MIDI manager such that it works well as described above. Here is a part of my code for SimplePlayEngine.swift and my MIDIManager.swift for reference: @MainActor @Observable public class SimplePlayEngine { private let midiOutBlock: AUMIDIOutputEventBlock = { sampleTime, cable, length, data in return noErr } var scheduleMIDIEventListBlock: AUMIDIEventListBlock? = nil public init() { engine.attach(player) engine.prepare() setupMIDI() } private func setupMIDI() { if !MIDIManager.shared.setupPort(midiProtocol: MIDIProtocolID._2_0, receiveBlock: { [weak self] eventList, _ in if let scheduleMIDIEventListBlock = self?.scheduleMIDIEventListBlock { _ = scheduleMIDIEventListBlock(AUEventSampleTimeImmediate, 0, eventList) } }) { fatalError("Failed to setup Core MIDI") } } func initComponent(type: String, subType: String, manufacturer: String) async -> ViewController? { reset() guard let component = AVAudioUnit.findComponent(type: type, subType: subType, manufacturer: manufacturer) else { fatalError("Failed to find component with type: \(type), subtype: \(subType), manufacturer: \(manufacturer))" ) } do { let audioUnit = try await AVAudioUnit.instantiate( with: component.audioComponentDescription, options: AudioComponentInstantiationOptions.loadOutOfProcess) self.avAudioUnit = audioUnit self.connect(avAudioUnit: audioUnit) return await audioUnit.loadAudioUnitViewController() } catch { return nil } } private func startPlayingInternal() { guard let avAudioUnit = self.avAudioUnit else { return } setSessionActive(true) if avAudioUnit.wantsAudioInput { scheduleEffectLoop() } let hardwareFormat = engine.outputNode.outputFormat(forBus: 0) engine.connect(engine.mainMixerNode, to: engine.outputNode, format: hardwareFormat) do { try engine.start() } catch { isPlaying = false fatalError("Could not start engine. error: \(error).") } if avAudioUnit.wantsAudioInput { player.play() } isPlaying = true } private func resetAudioLoop() { guard let avAudioUnit = self.avAudioUnit else { return } if avAudioUnit.wantsAudioInput { guard let format = file?.processingFormat else { fatalError("No AVAudioFile defined.") } engine.connect(player, to: engine.mainMixerNode, format: format) } } public func connect(avAudioUnit: AVAudioUnit?, completion: @escaping (() -> Void) = {}) { guard let avAudioUnit = self.avAudioUnit else { return } engine.disconnectNodeInput(engine.mainMixerNode) resetAudioLoop() engine.detach(avAudioUnit) func rewiringComplete() { scheduleMIDIEventListBlock = auAudioUnit.scheduleMIDIEventListBlock if isPlaying { player.play() } completion() } let hardwareFormat = engine.outputNode.outputFormat(forBus: 0) engine.connect(engine.mainMixerNode, to: engine.outputNode, format: hardwareFormat) if isPlaying { player.pause() } let auAudioUnit = avAudioUnit.auAudioUnit if !auAudioUnit.midiOutputNames.isEmpty { auAudioUnit.midiOutputEventBlock = midiOutBlock } engine.attach(avAudioUnit) if avAudioUnit.wantsAudioInput { engine.disconnectNodeInput(engine.mainMixerNode) if let format = file?.processingFormat { engine.connect(player, to: avAudioUnit, format: format) engine.connect(avAudioUnit, to: engine.mainMixerNode, format: format) } } else { let stereoFormat = AVAudioFormat(standardFormatWithSampleRate: hardwareFormat.sampleRate, channels: 2) engine.connect(avAudioUnit, to: engine.mainMixerNode, format: stereoFormat) } rewiringComplete() } } and my MIDI Manager @MainActor class MIDIManager: Identifiable, ObservableObject { func setupPort(midiProtocol: MIDIProtocolID, receiveBlock: @escaping @Sendable MIDIReceiveBlock) -> Bool { guard setupClient() else { return false } if MIDIInputPortCreateWithProtocol(client, portName, midiProtocol, &port, receiveBlock) != noErr { return false } for source in self.sources { if MIDIPortConnectSource(port, source, nil) != noErr { print("Failed to connect to source \(source)") return false } } setupVirtualMIDIOutput() return true } private func setupVirtualMIDIOutput() { let virtualStatus = MIDISourceCreate(client, virtualSourceName, &virtualSource) if virtualStatus != noErr { print("❌ Failed to create virtual MIDI source: \(virtualStatus)") } else { print("✅ Created virtual MIDI source: \(virtualSourceName)") } } func sendMIDIData(_ data: [UInt8]) { print("hey") var packetList = MIDIPacketList() withUnsafeMutablePointer(to: &packetList) { ptr in let pkt = MIDIPacketListInit(ptr) _ = MIDIPacketListAdd(ptr, 1024, pkt, 0, data.count, data) if virtualSource != 0 { let status = MIDIReceived(virtualSource, ptr) if status != noErr { print("❌ Failed to send MIDI data: \(status)") } else { print("✅ Sent MIDI data: \(data)") } } } } }
