Foundation Models unavailable for millions of users due to device language restriction - Need per-app language override
Hi everyone, I'm developing an iOS app using Foundation Models and I've hit a critical limitation that I believe affects many developers and millions of users. The Issue Foundation Models requires the device system language to be one of the supported languages. If a user has their device set to an unsupported language (Catalan, Dutch, Swedish, Polish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Czech, Hungarian, Greek, Romanian, and many others), SystemLanguageModel.isSupported returns false and the framework is completely unavailable. Why This Is Problematic Scenario: A Catalan user has their iPhone in Catalan (native language). They want to use an AI chat app in Spanish or English (languages they speak fluently). Current situation: ❌ Foundation Models: Completely unavailable ✅ OpenAI GPT-4: Works perfectly ✅ Anthropic Claude: Works perfectly ✅ Any cloud-based AI: Works perfectly The user must choose between: Keep device in Catalan → Cannot use Foundation Models at all Change entire device to Spanish → Can use Foundation Models but terrible UX Impact This affects: Millions of users in regions where unsupported languages are official Multilingual users who prefer their device in their native language but can comfortably interact with AI in English/Spanish Developers who cannot deploy Foundation Models-based apps in these markets Privacy-conscious users who are ironically forced to use cloud AI instead of on-device AI What We Need One of these solutions would solve the problem: Option 1: Per-app language override (preferred) // Proposed API let session = try await LanguageModelSession(preferredLanguage: "es-ES") Option 2: Faster rollout of additional languages (particularly EU languages) Option 3: Allow fallback to user-selected supported language when system language is unsupported Technical Details Current behavior: // Device in Catalan let isAvailable = SystemLanguageModel.isSupported // Returns false // No way to override or specify alternative language Why This Matters Apple Intelligence and Foundation Models are amazing for privacy and performance. But this language restriction makes the most privacy-focused AI solution less accessible than cloud alternatives. This seems contrary to Apple's values of accessibility and user choice. Questions for the Community Has anyone else encountered this limitation? Are there any workarounds I'm missing? Has anyone successfully filed feedback about this?(Please share FB number so we can reference it) Are there any sessions or labs where this has been discussed? Thanks for reading. I'd love to hear if others are facing this and how you're handling it.

Siri 2.0 (suggests and future updates)
Hey dear developers! This post should be available for the future Siri updates and improvements but also for wishes in this forum so that everyone can share their opinion and idea please stay friendly. have fun! I had already thought about developing a demo app to demonstrate my idea for a better Siri. My change of many: Wish Update: Siri's language recognition capabilities have been significantly enhanced. Instead of manually setting the language, Siri can now automatically recognize the language you intend to use, making language switching much more efficient. Simply speak the language you want to communicate in, and Siri will automatically recognize it and respond accordingly. Whether you speak English, German, or Japanese, Siri will respond in the language you choose.

Error when using Image Feature Print v2
Hi all, I'm working on an app to classify dog breeds via CoreML, but when I try training a model using Image Feature Print v2, I get the following error: Failed to create CVPixelBufferPool. Width = 0, Height = 0, Format = 0x00000000 Strangely, when I switch back to Image Feature Print v1, the model trains perfectly fine. I've verified that there aren't any invalid or broken images in my dataset. Is there a fix for this? Thanks!

iOS 26 beta breaking my model
I just recently updated to iOS 26 beta (23A5336a) to test an app I am developing I running an MLModel loaded from a .mlmodelc file. On the current iOS version 18.6.2 the model is running as expected with no issues. However on iOS 26 I am now getting error when trying to perform an inference to the model where I pass a camera frame into it. Below is the error I am seeing when I attempt to run an inference. at the bottom it says "Failed with status=0x1d : statusType=0x9: Program Inference error status=-1 Unable to compute the prediction using a neural network model. It can be an invalid input data or broken/unsupported model " does this indicate I need to convert my model or something? I don't understand since it runs as normal on iOS 18. Any help getting this to run again would be greatly appreciated. Vision Framework - Testing RecognizeDocumentsRequest
How do I test the new RecognizeDocumentRequest API. Reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-GCNsXdKzM I am running Xcode Beta, however I only have one primary device that I cannot install beta software on. Please provide a strategy for testing. Will simulator work? The new capability is critical to my application, just what I need for structuring document scans and extraction. Thank you.

Creating .mlmodel with Create ML Components
I have rewatched WWDC22 a few times , but still not getting full understanding how to get .mlmodel model file type from components . Example with banana ripeness is cool , but what need to be added to actually have output of .mlmodel , is somewhere full sample code for this type of modular project ? Code is from [https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2022/10019) import CoreImage import CreateMLComponents struct ImageRegressor { static let trainingDataURL = URL(fileURLWithPath: "~/Desktop/bananas") static let parametersURL = URL(fileURLWithPath: "~/Desktop/parameters") static func train() async throws -> some Transformer<CIImage, Float> { let estimator = ImageFeaturePrint() .appending(LinearRegressor()) // File name example: banana-5.jpg let data = try AnnotatedFiles(labeledByNamesAt: trainingDataURL, separator: "-", index: 1, type: .image) .mapFeatures(ImageReader.read) .mapAnnotations({ Float($0)! }) let (training, validation) = data.randomSplit(by: 0.8) let transformer = try await estimator.fitted(to: training, validateOn: validation) try estimator.write(transformer, to: parametersURL) return transformer } } I have tried to run it in Mac OS command line type app, Swift-UI but most what I had as output was .pkg with "pipeline.json, parameters, optimizer.json, optimizer"

UI Guidelines for Apple Intelligence?
Are there any guidelines for using Foundation Models To generate text for users in response to some canned queries? Should we use a special icon or text to let the user know that Apple Intelligence is generating the text? Should there be a disclaimer like, Apple Intelligence can make mistakes, please check for accuracy, etc?

CoreML Conversion Display Issues
Hello! I have a TrackNet model that I have converted to CoreML (.mlpackage) using coremltools, and the conversion process appears to go smoothly as I get the .mlpackage file I am looking for with the weights and model.mlmodel file in the folder. However, when I drag it into Xcode, it just shows up as 4 script tags instead of the model "interface" that is typically expected. I initially was concerned that my model was not compatible with CoreML, but upon logging the conversions, everything seems to be converted properly. I have some code that may be relevant in debugging this issue: How I use the model: model = BallTrackerNet() # this is the model architecture which will be referenced later device = self.device # cpu model.load_state_dict(torch.load("models/balltrackerbest.pt", map_location=device)) # balltrackerbest is the weights model = model.to(device) model.eval() Here is the BallTrackerNet() model itself import torch.nn as nn import torch class ConvBlock(nn.Module): def __init__(self, in_channels, out_channels, kernel_size=3, pad=1, stride=1, bias=True): super().__init__() self.block = nn.Sequential( nn.Conv2d(in_channels, out_channels, kernel_size, stride=stride, padding=pad, bias=bias), nn.ReLU(), nn.BatchNorm2d(out_channels) ) def forward(self, x): return self.block(x) class BallTrackerNet(nn.Module): def __init__(self, out_channels=256): super().__init__() self.out_channels = out_channels self.conv1 = ConvBlock(in_channels=9, out_channels=64) self.conv2 = ConvBlock(in_channels=64, out_channels=64) self.pool1 = nn.MaxPool2d(kernel_size=2, stride=2) self.conv3 = ConvBlock(in_channels=64, out_channels=128) self.conv4 = ConvBlock(in_channels=128, out_channels=128) self.pool2 = nn.MaxPool2d(kernel_size=2, stride=2) self.conv5 = ConvBlock(in_channels=128, out_channels=256) self.conv6 = ConvBlock(in_channels=256, out_channels=256) self.conv7 = ConvBlock(in_channels=256, out_channels=256) self.pool3 = nn.MaxPool2d(kernel_size=2, stride=2) self.conv8 = ConvBlock(in_channels=256, out_channels=512) self.conv9 = ConvBlock(in_channels=512, out_channels=512) self.conv10 = ConvBlock(in_channels=512, out_channels=512) self.ups1 = nn.Upsample(scale_factor=2) self.conv11 = ConvBlock(in_channels=512, out_channels=256) self.conv12 = ConvBlock(in_channels=256, out_channels=256) self.conv13 = ConvBlock(in_channels=256, out_channels=256) self.ups2 = nn.Upsample(scale_factor=2) self.conv14 = ConvBlock(in_channels=256, out_channels=128) self.conv15 = ConvBlock(in_channels=128, out_channels=128) self.ups3 = nn.Upsample(scale_factor=2) self.conv16 = ConvBlock(in_channels=128, out_channels=64) self.conv17 = ConvBlock(in_channels=64, out_channels=64) self.conv18 = ConvBlock(in_channels=64, out_channels=self.out_channels) self.softmax = nn.Softmax(dim=1) self._init_weights() def forward(self, x, testing=False): batch_size = x.size(0) x = self.conv1(x) x = self.conv2(x) x = self.pool1(x) x = self.conv3(x) x = self.conv4(x) x = self.pool2(x) x = self.conv5(x) x = self.conv6(x) x = self.conv7(x) x = self.pool3(x) x = self.conv8(x) x = self.conv9(x) x = self.conv10(x) x = self.ups1(x) x = self.conv11(x) x = self.conv12(x) x = self.conv13(x) x = self.ups2(x) x = self.conv14(x) x = self.conv15(x) x = self.ups3(x) x = self.conv16(x) x = self.conv17(x) x = self.conv18(x) # x = self.softmax(x) out = x.reshape(batch_size, self.out_channels, -1) if testing: out = self.softmax(out) return out def _init_weights(self): for module in self.modules(): if isinstance(module, nn.Conv2d): nn.init.uniform_(module.weight, -0.05, 0.05) if module.bias is not None: nn.init.constant_(module.bias, 0) elif isinstance(module, nn.BatchNorm2d): nn.init.constant_(module.weight, 1) nn.init.constant_(module.bias, 0) I have been struggling with this conversion for almost 2 weeks now so any help, ideas or pointers would be greatly appreciated! BarcodeObservation Orientation
Hi, I'm working with vision framework to detect barcodes. I tested both ean13 and data matrix detection and both are working fine except for the QuadrilateralProviding values in the returned BarcodeObservation. TopLeft, topRight, bottomRight and bottomLeft coordinates are rotated 90° counter clockwise (physical bottom left of data Matrix, the corner of the "L" is returned as the topLeft point in observation). The same behaviour is happening with EAN13 Barcode. Did someone else experienced the same issue with orientation? Is it normal behaviour or should we expect a fix in next releases of the Vision Framework?

App Shortcuts Limit (10 per app) — Can This Be Increased?
Hi Apple team, When using AppShortcutsProvider, I hit the hard limit: Each app may have at most 10 App Shortcuts. This feels limiting for apps that offer multiple workflows and would benefit from deeper Siri integration. Could this cap be raised — ideally to 30 — to support broader use of AppIntents, enhance Siri automation, and unlock more system-level capabilities? AppShortcuts are a fantastic tool. Increasing the limit would make them even more powerful. Thanks!

BNNS random number generator for Double value types
I generate an array of random floats using the code shown below. However, I would like to do this with Double instead of Float. Are there any BNNS random number generators for double values, something like BNNSRandomFillUniformDouble? If not, is there a way I can convert BNNSNDArrayDescriptor from float to double? import Accelerate let n = 100_000_000 let result = Array<Float>(unsafeUninitializedCapacity: n) { buffer, initCount in var descriptor = BNNSNDArrayDescriptor(data: buffer, shape: .vector(n))! let randomGenerator = BNNSCreateRandomGenerator(BNNSRandomGeneratorMethodAES_CTR, nil) BNNSRandomFillUniformFloat(randomGenerator, &descriptor, 0, 1) initCount = n }

Foundation model adapter assets are invalid
I've tried creating a Lora adapter using the example dataset, scripts as part of the adapter_training_toolkit_v26_0_0 (last available) on MacOs 26 Beta 6. import SwiftUI import FoundationModels import Playgrounds #Playground { // The absolute path to your adapter. let localURL = URL(filePath: "/Users/syl/Downloads/adapter_training_toolkit_v26_0_0/train/test-lora.fmadapter") // Initialize the adapter by using the local URL. let adapter = try SystemLanguageModel.Adapter(fileURL: localURL) // An instance of the the system language model using your adapter. let customAdapterModel = SystemLanguageModel(adapter: adapter) // Create a session and prompt the model. let session = LanguageModelSession(model: customAdapterModel) let response = try await session.respond(to: "hello") } I get Adapter assets are invalid error. I've added the entitlements Is adapter_training_toolkit_v26_0_0 up to date?

AI-Powered Feed Customization via User-Defined Algorithm
Hey guys 👋 I’ve been thinking about a feature idea for iOS that could totally change the way we interact with apps like Twitter/X. Imagine if we could define our own recommendation algorithm, and have an AI on the iPhone that replaces the suggested tweets in the feed with ones that match our personal interests — based on public tweets, and without hacking anything. Kinda like a personalized "AI skin" over the app that curates content you actually care about. Feels like this would make content way more relevant and less algorithmically manipulative. Would love to know what you all think — and if Apple could pull this off 🔥

CoreML: Model loading utilities
Hello, We find that models sometimes load very fast (<< 1 second) and sometimes encounter very long load times (>> 120 seconds). During such slow load times, the model is being compiled. We would greatly appreciate the ability to check cache validity via CoreML and determine that we are about to encounter long load times so that we can mitigate and provide a good user experience. A secondary issue: sometimes the cache is corrupted (typically .mpsgraphpackage yielding Metal cold asserts). This yields load failures and OS errors that persist between launches, and we have to manually nuke the cache (~/Library/..../my-app/...) for the CoreML assets. A CoreML API for clearing caches and hardening from asserts across the load paths would be appreciated
