What is experimentalMLE5EngineUsage?
@property (assign, nonatomic) long long experimentalMLE5EngineUsage; //@synthesize experimentalMLE5EngineUsage=_experimentalMLE5EngineUsage - In the implementation block What is it, and why would disabling it fix NMS for a MLProgram? Is there anyway to signal this flag from model metadata? Is there anyway to signal or disable from a global, system-level scope? It's extremely easy to reproduce, but do not know how to investigate the drastic regression between toggling this flag let config = MLModelConfiguration() config.setValue(1, forKey: "experimentalMLE5EngineUsage")

Mistral/LLaMa Core ML Conversion
Hi, I am new to developing on Apple’s platform yet I want to familiarize myself with Core ML and Core ML Tools. I was watching the WWDC24: Bring your machine learning and AI models to Apple Silicon video and was trying to follow along. After multiple attempts and much reading up on documentation, I am still unable to get a coherent script running that will convert the Mistral model that the host used and convert it to a valid Core ML model. here is a pastebin to what i have currently: https://pastebin.com/04cVjF1v if you require the output as well please let me know

Keras on Mac (M4) is giving inconsistent results compared to running on NVIDIA GPUs
I have seen inconsistent results for my Colab machine learning notebooks running locally on a Mac M4, compared to running the same notebook code on either T4 (in Colab) or a RTX3090 locally. To illustrate the problems I have set up a notebook that implements two simple CNN models that solves the Fashion-MNIST problem. https://colab.research.google.com/drive/11BhtHhN079-BWqv9QvvcSD9U4mlVSocB?usp=sharing For the good model with 2M parameters I get the following results: T4 (Colab, JAX): Test accuracy: 0.925 3090 (Local PC via ssh tunnel, Jax): Test accuracy: 0.925 Mac M4 (Local, JAX): Test accuracy: 0.893 Mac M4 (Local, Tensorflow): Test accuracy: 0.893 That is, I see a significant drop in performance when I run on the Mac M4 compared to the NVIDIA machines, and it seems to be independent of backend. I however do not know how to pinpoint this to either Keras or Apple’s METAL implementation. I have reported this to Keras: https://colab.research.google.com/drive/11BhtHhN079-BWqv9QvvcSD9U4mlVSocB?usp=sharing but as this can be (likely is?) an Apple Metal issue, I wanted to report this here as well. On the mac I am running the following Python libraries: keras 3.9.1 tensorflow 2.19.0 tensorflow-metal 1.2.0 jax 0.5.3 jax-metal 0.1.1 jaxlib 0.5.3

Khmer Script Misidentified as Thai in Vision Framework
It is vital for Apple to refine its OCR models to correctly distinguish between Khmer and Thai scripts. Incorrectly labeling Khmer text as Thai is more than a technical bug; it is a culturally insensitive error that impacts national identity, especially given the current geopolitical climate between Cambodia and Thailand. Implementing a more robust language-detection threshold would prevent these harmful misidentifications. There is a significant logic flaw in the VNRecognizeTextRequest language detection when processing Khmer script. When the property automaticallyDetectsLanguage is set to true, the Vision framework frequently misidentifies Khmer characters as Thai. While both scripts share historical roots, they are distinct languages with different alphabets. Currently, the model’s confidence threshold for distinguishing between these two scripts is too low, leading to incorrect OCR output in both developer-facing APIs and Apple’s native ecosystem (Preview, Live Text, and Photos). import SwiftUI import Vision class TextExtractor { func extractText(from data: Data, completion: @escaping (String) -> Void) { let request = VNRecognizeTextRequest { (request, error) in guard let observations = request.results as? [VNRecognizedTextObservation] else { completion("No text found.") return } let recognizedStrings = observations.compactMap { observation in let str = observation.topCandidates(1).first?.string return "{text: \(str!), confidence: \(observation.confidence)}" } completion(recognizedStrings.joined(separator: "\n")) } request.automaticallyDetectsLanguage = true // <-- This is the issue. request.recognitionLevel = .accurate let handler = VNImageRequestHandler(data: data, options: [:]) DispatchQueue.global(qos: .background).async { do { try handler.perform([request]) } catch { completion("Failed to perform OCR: \(error.localizedDescription)") } } } } Recognizing Khmer Confidence Score is low for Khmer text. (The output is in Thai language with low confidence score) Recognizing English Confidence Score is high expected. Recommended Solutions 1. Set a Threshold Filter out the detected result where the threshold is less than or equal to 0.5, so that it would not output low quality text which can lead to the issue. For example, let recognizedStrings = observations.compactMap { observation in if observation.confidence <= 0.5 { return nil } let str = observation.topCandidates(1).first?.string return "{text: \(str!), confidence: \(observation.confidence)}" } 2. Add Khmer Language Support This issue would never happen if the model has the capability to detect and recognize image with Khmer language. Doc2Text GitHub: https://github.com/seanghay/Doc2Text-Swift

Is there an API to check if a Core ML compiled model is already cached?
Hello Apple Developer Community, I'm investigating Core ML model loading behavior and noticed that even when the compiled model path remains unchanged after an APP update, the first run still triggers an "uncached load" process. This seems to impact user experience with unnecessary delays. Question: Does Core ML provide any public API to check whether a compiled model (from a specific .mlmodelc path) is already cached in the system? If such API exists, we'd like to use it for pre-loading decision logic - only perform background pre-load when the model isn't cached. Has anyone encountered similar scenarios or found official solutions? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Inquiry Regarding Siri–AI Integration Capabilities
: Hello, I’m seeking clarification on whether Apple provides any framework or API that enables deep integration between Siri and advanced AI assistants (such as ChatGPT), including system-level functions like voice interaction, navigation, cross-platform syncing, and operational access similar to Siri’s own capabilities. If no such option exists today, I would appreciate guidance on the recommended path or approved third-party solutions for building a unified, voice-first experience across Apple’s ecosystem. Thank you for your time and insight.

Running a local LLM on Swift Playgrounds
I am trying to run TinyLlama directly using Swift Playgrounds for iOS. I have tried multiple solutions, like libraries (LLM.swift, swift-transformers, ...) which never worked due to import issues, and also tried importing an exported mlmodel. For the later, I followed the article about Llama 3.1 on CoreML. It was hard to understand how to do the inference with it, but I was able to export a mlpackage, that I then placed in a xcode project to generate the mlmodelc (compiled model) and the model class. I had to go with the first version described in the article, without optimizations, as I got errors during model loading with the flexible input shapes. I was able to run the model for one token generation. But my biggest problem is that, though the mlmodelc is only 550 MiB, th model loads 24+GiB of memory, largely exceeding what I can have on an iOS device. Is there a way to use do LLM inferences on Swift Playgrounds at a reasonable speed (even 1 token / s would be sufficient)?

jax-metal failing due to incompatibility with jax 0.5.1 or later.
Hello, I am interested in using jax-metal to train ML models using Apple Silicon. I understand this is experimental. After installing jax-metal according to https://developer.apple.com/metal/jax/, my python code fails with the following error JaxRuntimeError: UNKNOWN: -:0:0: error: unknown attribute code: 22 -:0:0: note: in bytecode version 6 produced by: StableHLO_v1.12.1 My issue is identical to the one reported here https://github.com/jax-ml/jax/issues/26968#issuecomment-2733120325, and is fixed by pinning to jax-metal 0.1.1., jax 0.5.0 and jaxlib 0.5.0. Thank you!

Group AppIntents’ Searchable DynamicOptionsProvider in Sections
I’m trying to group my EntityPropertyQuery selection into sections as well as making it searchable. I know that the EntityStringQuery is used to perform the text search via entities(matching string: String). That works well enough and results in this modal: Though, when I’m using a DynamicOptionsProvider to section my EntityPropertyQuery, it doesn’t allow for searching anymore and simply opens the sectioned list in a menu like so: How can I combine both? I’ve seen it in other apps, but can’t figure out why my code doesn’t allow to section the results and make it searchable? Any ideas? My code (simplified) struct MyIntent: AppIntent { @Parameter(title: "Meter"), optionsProvider: MyOptionsProvider()) var meter: MyIntentEntity? // … struct MyOptionsProvider: DynamicOptionsProvider { func results() async throws -> ItemCollection<MyIntentEntity> { // Get All Data let allData = try IntentsDataHandler.shared.getEntities() // Create Arrays for Sections let fooEntities = allData.filter { $0.type == .foo } let barEntities = allData.filter { $0.type == .bar } return ItemCollection(sections: [ ItemSection("Foo", items: fooEntities), ItemSection("Bar", items: barEntities) ]) } } struct MeterIntentQuery: EntityStringQuery { // entities(for identifiers: [UUID]) and suggestedEntities() functions func entities(matching string: String) async throws -> [MyIntentEntity] { // Fetch All Data let allData = try IntentsDataHandler.shared.getEntities() // Filter Data by String let matchingData = allData.filter { data in return data.title.localizedCaseInsensitiveContains(string)) } return matchingData } }

App stuck “In Review” for several days after AI-policy rejection — need clarification
Hello everyone, I’m looking for guidance regarding my app review timeline, as things seem unusually delayed compared to previous submissions. My iOS app was rejected on November 19th due to AI-related policy questions. I immediately responded to the reviewer with detailed explanations covering: Model used (Gemini Flash 2.0 / 2.5 Lite) How the AI only generates neutral, non-directive reflective questions How the system prevents any diagnosis, therapy-like behavior or recommendations Crisis-handling limitations Safety safeguards at generation and UI level Internal red-team testing and results Data retention, privacy, and non-use of data for model training After sending the requested information, I resubmitted the build on November 19th at 14:40. Since then: November 20th (7:30) → Status changed to In Review. November 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th → No movement, still In Review. My open case on App Store Connect is still pending without updates. Because of the previous rejection, I expected a short delay, but this is now 5 days total and 3 business days with no progress, which feels longer than usual for my past submissions. I’m not sure whether: My app is in a secondary review queue due to the AI-related rejection, The reviewer is waiting for internal clarification, Or if something is stuck and needs to be escalated. I don’t want to resubmit a new build unless necessary, since that would restart the queue. Could someone from the community (or Apple, if possible) confirm whether this waiting time is normal after an AI-policy rejection? And is there anything I should do besides waiting — for example, contacting Developer Support again or requesting a follow-up? Thank you very much for your help. I appreciate any insight from others who have experienced similar delays.

SpeechTranscriber time indexes - detect pauses?
I'm experimenting with the new SpeechTranscriber in macOS/iOS 26, transcribing speech from a prerecorded mp4 file. Speed and quality are amazing! I've told the transcriber to include time indexes. Each run is always exactly one word, which can be very useful. When I look at the indexes the end of one run is always identical to the start of the next run, even if there's a pause. I'd like to identify pauses, perhaps to generate something like phrases for subtitling. With each run of text going into the next I can't do this, other than using punctuation - which might be rather rough. Any suggestions on detecting pauses, or getting that kind of metadata from the transcriber? Here's a short sample, showing each run with the start, end, and characters in the run: 105.9 --> 107.04 I 107.04 --> 107.16 think 107.16 --> 108.0 more 108.0 --> 108.42 lighting 108.42 --> 108.6 is 108.6 --> 108.72 definitely 108.72 --> 109.2 needed, 109.2 --> 109.92 downtown. 109.98 --> 110.4 My 110.4 --> 110.52 only 110.52 --> 110.7 question 110.7 --> 111.06 is, 111.06 --> 111.48 poll 111.48 --> 111.78 five, 111.78 --> 111.84 that 111.84 --> 112.08 you're 112.08 --> 112.38 increasing 112.38 --> 112.5 the 112.5 --> 113.34 50,000? 113.4 --> 113.58 Where 113.58 --> 113.88 exactly

Can MPSGraphExecutable automatically leverage Apple Neural Engine (ANE) for inference?
Hi, I'm currently using Metal Performance Shaders Graph (MPSGraphExecutable) to run neural network inference operations as part of a metal rendering pipeline. I also tried to profile the usage of neural engine when running inference using MPSGraphExecutable but the graph shows no sign of neural engine usage. However, when I used the coreML model inspection tool in xcode and run performance report, it was able to use ANE. Does MPSGraphExecutable automatically utilize the Apple Neural Engine (ANE) when running inference operations, or does it only execute on GPU? My model (Core ML Package) was converted from a pytouch model using coremltools with ML program type and support iOS17.0+. Any insights or documentation references would be greatly appreciated!

Full documentation of annotations file for Create ML
The documentation for the Create ML tool ("Building an object detector data source") mentions that there are options for using normalized values instead of pixels and also different anchor point origins ("MLBoundingBoxCoordinatesOrigin") instead of always using "center". However, the JSON format for these does not appear in any examples. Does anyone know the format for these options?

ILMessageFilterExtension memory limit
I’m considering creating an ILMessageFilterExtension using a mini LLM/SLM to detect fraud and I’ve read it has strict memory limits yet I can’t find it in the documentation. What’s the set limit or any other constraints impacting the feasibility of running 100-500mb model?

recent JAX versions fail on Metal
Hi, I'm not sure whether this is the appropriate forum for this topic. I just followed a link from the JAX Metal plugin page https://developer.apple.com/metal/jax/ I'm writing a Python app with JAX, and recent JAX versions fail on Metal. E.g. v0.8.2 I have to downgrade JAX pretty hard to make it work: pip install jax==0.4.35 jaxlib==0.4.35 jax-metal==0.1.1 Can we get an updated release of jax-metal that would fix this issue? LanguageModelSession with multiple tools and structured outpout
Hi, I'm using LanguageModelSession and giving it two different tools to query data from a local database. I'm wondering how I can have the session generate structured content as the response that includes data one or both tools (or no tool at all). Here is an example of what I'm trying to do: Let's say the app has access to a database that contains information about exercise and sleep data (this is just an analogy). There are two tools, GetExerciseData() and GetSleepData(). The user may then prompt something like, "how well did I sleep in November". I have this working so that it calls through to the right tool, which would return a SleepSummary. However, I can't figure out how to have the session return the right structured data. I can do this and get back good text data: let response = session.respond(to: userInput), but I believe I want to do something like: let response = session.respond(to: trimmed, generating: <SomeStructure?>) Sometimes the model I run one tool or the other, or both tools, or no tool at all. Any help of what the right way to go about this would be much appreciated. Most of the example I found have to do with 1 tool.

Does ExecuTorch support VisionOS?
Does anyone know if ExecuTorch is officially supported or has been successfully used on visionOS? If so, are there any specific build instructions, example projects, or potential issues (like sandboxing or memory limitations) to be aware of when integrating it into an Xcode project for the Vision Pro? While ExecuTorch has support for iOS, I can't find any official documentation or community examples specifically mentioning visionOS. Thanks.
