iOS Simulator can only render 1 RealityView
I'm using RealityView in my iOS game mxied with SwiftUI. For the following 2 example usages, the simulator will only render the first RealityView, and the second one is either super laggy or show a black model. Running on the real device is all good, just simualtor has this issue. Have a TabView and each tab has a RealityView. Have a root view and detail view connected via a push navigation, both root and detail have a RealityView. In the Simulator, the second RealityView is going to be very choppy and basically unusable, but on a real iPhone everything looks great. Is this a known simulator issue or I did something bad?

MTLBinaryArchive Size
I'm trying to use MTLBinaryArchive. I collected a BinaryArchive from one device and used metal-tt to translate it for all supported iPhone devices, ranging from iPhone 7 Plus to iPhone 16. However, this BinaryArchive is quite large, around 1.5GB uncompressed, and about 500MB compressed in the IPA. I'm wondering how to address the size issue. I watched the WWDC 2022 video, which mentioned that the operating system or app installation process would handle compatibility. Does this compatibility support different GPU chips? I tried installing an IPA with a BinaryArchive collected only from an iPhone 12 on an iPhone 13, but the BinaryArchive didn't take effect. I also saw that Apple supports App Thinning. However, it seems that resources in the Asset Catalog cannot be accessed via URL, and creating an MTLBinaryArchive requires a URL. Is it possible for MTLBinaryArchive to be distributed through App Thinning? The WWDC 2022 video also mentioned using the -Os optimization flag to reduce size. Can this give an estimate of how much compression it would achieve? Are there any methods to solve the BinaryArchive size issue without impacting performance?

Game Center Achievement "Global Players" Always Showing 0% Issue
Hello, I’m the developer of the “ StepSquad” app. Our app uses the Game Center achievement feature, but we’ve been encountering a problem: the “Global Players” metric always shows 0%, even though there are friends who have already achieved these achievements. Initially, I thought it might be because the app was newly launched. However, it’s now been over two months since release, and it’s still showing 0%. If anyone has any insight into this issue, please leave a comment.

Portals do not occlude CollisionComponent and InputTargetComponent
Hello If you add a ModelEntity to a world inside a portal, the drawing of the model will be occluded properly to the portal bounds. However the invisible shape of the InputTargetComponent and CollisionComponent are not occluded. They are able to cross the portal, and if you have gestures on your ModelEntity you can trigger them in areas outside the portal bounds. This happens even if the ModelEntity has no PortalCrossingComponent.

PhotogrammetrySession crashes after update from iOS 18 to iOS 26
After updating iPad/iPhone devices from iOS 18 to iOS 26, PhotogrammetrySession intermittently crashes during photogrammetry processing. The same workflow was stable on iOS 18 with no code changes to the app. Environment: OS versions: Works on OS 18, crashes on OS 26 Device: iPad/iPhone (reproducible across devices) Source images: ~170-200 JPG files at 2160 x 3840 resolution Reproduction: The crash occurs consistently on the second or third sequential run of the photogrammetry session with the same image set. First run typically succeeds. Crash details: Xcode shows an uncaught exception during image processing: terminating due to uncaught exception of type std::bad_alloc: std::bad_alloc VTPixelTransferSession 420f sid 269 (2160.00 x 3840.00) [0.00 0.00 2160 3840] rowbytes( 2160, 2160 ) Color( (null), 0x0, (null), (null), ITU_R_601_4 ) => 24 sid 19 (2160.00 x 3840.00) [0.00 0.00 2160 3840] rowbytes( 6528 ) Color( 0x0, (null), (null), (null) ) This appears to be a memory allocation failure in VTPixelTransferSession during color space conversion. Has anyone else experienced similar crashes with CorePhotogrammetry on iOS 26, or found workarounds?

Achievement Banners Not always Showing
When running on my iPhone SE3 under IOS 18.4.1, achievement banners show as expected. The same code running on my iPad Air2 under IOS 15.8.4, achievement banners do not show, but they are accepted (as shown in the GameCenterViewController). The banners also don't show when running the simulator under iPhone 16 Pro Max under IOS 18.2 or simulator under iPhone SE3 under IOS 18.3. I haven't tried others. [Note that I clear the achievements each run during test so that I can duplicate this]

Is Using Metal Compute Shaders for Efficient Resource Copying to RealityKit the Best Approach for Streaming Data in Real-Time Rendering?
Hi Apple, In VisionOS, for real-time streaming of large 3D scenes, I plan to create Metal buffers and textures in multiple threads and then use a compute shader on the main thread to copy the Metal resources into RealityKit, minimizing main thread usage. Given that most of RealityKit's default APIs require execution on the main actor (main thread), it is not ideal for streaming data. Is this approach the best way to handle streaming data and real-time rendering? Thank you very much.

EXC_BREAKPOINT, QuartzCore , Crash CA::Render::Image::new_image
We are seeing crashes in Xcode organizer. So far we are not able to reproduce them locally. They affect multiple app releases (some older, built with Xcode 15.x and newer built with Xcode 16.0). They only affect iOS 18.5. Is there anything that changed in latest iOS? It's hard to tell what exactly is causing this crash because setting symbolic breakpoint on CA::Render::Image::new_image(unsigned int, unsigned int, unsigned int, unsigned int, CGColorSpace*, void const*, unsigned long const*, void (*)(void const*, void*), void*) triggers this breakpoint all the time, but not necessarily with exactly the previous stack frames matching the crash report. Is it a known issue? crash.crash Thank you.

iOS 26.1 beta: third-party Broadcast Extension sessions doesnt work after 3 s, then picker frozen
It's a Broadcast Extension issue: on iOS 26.1 beta the extension never launches—after you tap “Start Broadcast” in the system picker the countdown disappears after 3 s and no broadcast starts, so every live-streaming app(and all other non-system apps that use Broadcast Extension) fails to go live (only the native Photos screen recording still works). Is this a known regression or is a new entitlement required?

Is there a way to get all the turnbasematches that can join
I am using Unity's GameKit to implement a turnbase game. I want to make a UI in Unity to show all the games I can join. I tried using var matches = await GKTurnBasedMatch.LoadMatches(); to get all the open matches. But it seems that I can only get the matcm related to the current apple account. Can you help me get all the matches? ALSO I used var match = await GKTurnBasedMatchmakerViewController.Request(request); to exit the gamecenter interface and start a game (automatic matching, no one was invited) Another device used var match = await GKTurnBasedMatch.Find(request); to find the game, but it did not find the game, but it start a new game (automatic matching). Can you help me solve these problems?

Regression: RealityKit spatial audio crackles and pops on iOS 26.0 beta 5 (FB19423059)
RealityKit spatial audio crackles and pops on iOS 26.0 beta 5. It works correctly on iOS 18.6 and visionOS 26.0 beta 5. The APIs used are AudioPlaybackController, Entity.prepareAudio, Entity.play Videos of the expected and observed behavior are attached to the feedback FB19423059. The audio should be a consistent, repeating sound, but it seems oddly abbreviated and the volume varies unexpectedly. Thank you for investigating this issue.

Place a box on a wall or on the floor
Hi, I wanted to do something quite simple: Put a box on a wall or on the floor. My box: let myBox = ModelEntity( mesh: .generateBox(size: SIMD3<Float>(0.1, 0.1, 0.01)), materials: [SimpleMaterial(color: .systemRed, isMetallic: false)], collisionShape: .generateBox(size: SIMD3<Float>(0.1, 0.1, 0.01)), mass: 0.0) For that I used Plane Detection to identify the walls and floor in the room. Then with SpatialTapGesture I was able to retrieve the position where the user is looking and tap. let position = value.convert(value.location3D, from: .local, to: .scene) And then positioned my box myBox.setPosition(position, relativeTo: nil) When I then tested it I realized that the box was not parallel to the wall but had a slightly inclined angle. I also realized if I tried to put my box on the wall to my left the box was placed perpendicular to this wall and not placed on it. After various searches and several attempts I ended up playing with transform.matrix to identify if the plane is wall or a floor, if it was in front of me or on the side and set up a rotation on the box to "place" it on the wall or a floor. let surfaceTransform = surface.transform.matrix let surfaceNormal = normalize(surfaceTransform.columns.2.xyz) let baseRotation = simd_quatf(angle: .pi, axis: SIMD3<Float>(0, 1, 0)) var finalRotation: simd_quatf if acos(abs(dot(surfaceNormal, SIMD3<Float>(0, 1, 0)))) < 0.3 { logger.info("Surface: ceiling/floor") finalRotation = simd_quatf(angle: surfaceNormal.y > 0 ? 0 : .pi, axis: SIMD3<Float>(1, 0, 0)) } else if abs(surfaceNormal.x) > abs(surfaceNormal.z) { logger.info("Surface: left/right") finalRotation = simd_quatf(angle: surfaceNormal.x > 0 ? .pi/2 : -.pi/2, axis: SIMD3<Float>(0, 1, 0)) } else { logger.info("Surface: front/back") finalRotation = baseRotation } Playing with matrices is not really my thing so I don't know if I'm doing it right. Could you tell me if my tests for the orientation of the walls are correct? During my tests I don't always correctly identify whether the wall is in front or on the side. Is this generally the right way to do it? Is there an easier way to do this? Regards Tof

Custom Cameras in RealityKit
Hi all, I've developed some code that enables an arcball camera interaction with my scene. I've done this using components and systems. The implementation feels a bit messy as I've got gesture code on my realityView, and then a bunch of other code that uses those gesture inputs in my component and system. Is there a demo app, or some example code that shows a nice way to encapsulate these things in to one item for custom cameras, something like Apple's .realityViewCameraControls(.orbit) If not can anyone recommend an approach to take?

We are getting a blank image after capturing and compressing the picture.
We used below method to resize image while compress the image, Below method is correct or need to do the correction in method or "CGBitmapContextCreate" -(UIImage *)resizeImage:(UIImage *)anImage width:(int)width height:(int)height { CGImageRef imageRef = [anImage CGImage]; CGImageAlphaInfo alphaInfo = CGImageGetAlphaInfo(imageRef); if (alphaInfo == kCGImageAlphaNone) alphaInfo = kCGImageAlphaNoneSkipLast; CGContextRef bitmap = CGBitmapContextCreate(NULL, width, height, CGImageGetBitsPerComponent(imageRef), 4 * width, CGImageGetColorSpace(imageRef), alphaInfo); CGContextDrawImage(bitmap, CGRectMake(0, 0, width, height), imageRef); CGImageRef ref = CGBitmapContextCreateImage(bitmap); UIImage *result = [UIImage imageWithCGImage:ref]; CGContextRelease(bitmap); CGImageRelease(ref); return result; }

iPad - Can I prevent Multitasking on my app?
I have a game built in Unreal Engine 5.6 which uses tilt motion controls to rotate an object. I've restricted the app to only run in portrait for iPhone, and everything works fine, however for iPad I've had a few issues relating to multitasking and I can't seem to solve it. Forcing the app to portrait only still allows the app to run in landscape mode, but shows black bars either side of the game, and the axes for the motion controls are incorrect. X becomes Y and Y becomes X, and there's no way for my app to know which orientation it is because the container is still technically portrait. Allowing my game to run in all orientations makes the whole app more presentable, it doesn't add black bars and the game is still functional and I'm able to map the controls correctly because the game knows it's landscape rather than portrait. The problem with allowing my app to run in landscape mode is if multitasking is enabled on the ipad, you can resize the app to be portrait, and then I run into the same problem again where the game thinks it's portrait mode and all of the axes are wrong again. I tried getting the true orientation of the device rather than the scene, but the game is intended to be played flat so instead of returning the orientation of the OS the orientation is FaceUp, which doesn't help. I need to either disable multitasking or find a way of getting the orientation of the OS (not the scene or the device). I haven't found how to get the OS orientation so I've been trying to disable multitasking. I've got Requires Fullscreen true and UIApplicationSupportsMultipleScreens false in my info.plist but my iPad still seems to allow the window to be resized in landscape view. Opening the IOS workspace of my project Requires Fullscreen is ticked but under that it says "Supports Multiple Windows" and the arrow button next to it takes my to my info.plist values, but no indication of how I can change it. I'm using Unreal Engine 5.6 and Xcode 16.0. Xcode is old I know, but this version of unreal engine doesn't seem to support any newer.

ScreenCaptureKit recording output is corrupted when captureMicrophone is true
Hello everyone, I'm working on a screen recording app using ScreenCaptureKit and I've hit a strange issue. My app records the screen to an .mp4 file, and everything works perfectly until the .captureMicrophone is false In this case, I get a valid, playable .mp4 file. However, as soon as I try to enable the microphone by setting streamConfig.captureMicrophone = true, the recording seems to work, but the final .mp4 file is corrupted and cannot be played by QuickTime or any other player. This happens whether capturesAudio (app audio) is on or off. I've already added the "Privacy - Microphone Usage Description" (NSMicrophoneUsageDescription) to my Info.plist, so I don't think it's a permissions problem. I have my logic split into a ScreenRecorder class that manages state and a CaptureEngine that handles the SCStream. Here is how I'm configuring my SCStream: ScreenRecorder.swift // This is my main SCStreamConfiguration private var streamConfiguration: SCStreamConfiguration { var streamConfig = SCStreamConfiguration() // ... other HDR/preset config ... // These are the problem properties streamConfig.capturesAudio = isAudioCaptureEnabled streamConfig.captureMicrophone = isMicCaptureEnabled // breaks it if true streamConfig.excludesCurrentProcessAudio = false streamConfig.showsCursor = false if let region = selectedRegion, let display = currentDisplay { // My region/frame logic (works fine) let regionWidth = Int(region.frame.width) let regionHeight = Int(region.frame.height) streamConfig.width = regionWidth * scaleFactor streamConfig.height = regionHeight * scaleFactor // ... (sourceRect logic) ... } streamConfig.pixelFormat = kCVPixelFormatType_32BGRA streamConfig.colorSpaceName = CGColorSpace.sRGB streamConfig.minimumFrameInterval = CMTime(value: 1, timescale: 60) return streamConfig } And here is how I'm setting up the SCRecordingOutput that writes the file: ScreenRecorder.swift private func initRecordingOutput(for region: ScreenPickerManager.SelectedRegion) throws { let screeRecordingOutputURL = try RecordingWorkspace.createScreenRecordingVideoFile( in: workspaceURL, sessionIndex: sessionIndex ) let recordingConfiguration = SCRecordingOutputConfiguration() recordingConfiguration.outputURL = screeRecordingOutputURL recordingConfiguration.outputFileType = .mp4 recordingConfiguration.videoCodecType = .hevc let recordingOutput = SCRecordingOutput(configuration: recordingConfiguration, delegate: self) self.recordingOutput = recordingOutput } Finally, my CaptureEngine adds these to the SCStream: CaptureEngine.swift class CaptureEngine: NSObject, @unchecked Sendable { private(set) var stream: SCStream? private var streamOutput: CaptureEngineStreamOutput? // ... (dispatch queues) ... func startCapture(configuration: SCStreamConfiguration, filter: SCContentFilter, recordingOutput: SCRecordingOutput) async throws { let streamOutput = CaptureEngineStreamOutput() self.streamOutput = streamOutput do { stream = SCStream(filter: filter, configuration: configuration, delegate: streamOutput) // Add outputs for raw buffers (not used for file recording) try stream?.addStreamOutput(streamOutput, type: .screen, sampleHandlerQueue: videoSampleBufferQueue) try stream?.addStreamOutput(streamOutput, type: .audio, sampleHandlerQueue: audioSampleBufferQueue) try stream?.addStreamOutput(streamOutput, type: .microphone, sampleHandlerQueue: micSampleBufferQueue) // Add the file recording output try stream?.addRecordingOutput(recordingOutput) try await stream?.startCapture() } catch { logger.error("Failed to start capture: \(error.localizedDescription)") throw error } } // ... (stopCapture, etc.) ... } When I had the .captureMicrophone value to be false, I get a perfect .mp4 video playable everywhere, however, when its true, I am getting corrupted video which doesn't play at all :-

Metal and Swift PM
I have run into an issue where I am trying to use atomic_float in a swift package but I cannot get things to compile because it appears that the Swift Package Manager doesn't support Metal 3 (atomic_float is Metal 3 functionality). Is there any way around this? I am using // swift-tools-version: 6.1 and my Metal code includes: #include <metal_stdlib> #include <metal_geometric> #include <metal_math> #include <metal_atomic> using namespace metal; kernel void test(device atomic_float* imageBuffer [[buffer(1)]], uint id [[ thread_position_in_grid ]]) { } But I get an error on the definition of atomic_float . Any help, one more importantly, where I could have found this information about this limitation, would be helpful. -RadBobby
