APN push notifications failling
After my membership was renewed (auto-payment was rejected, and my account was manually paid), my app stopped receiving notifications I thought was an invalidation by membership but after some days, my app kept not receiving notifications. I just recreated a new key for my app, (I hope it solves the problem) My question is, do I need to make another change to my account to reenable services?

Alternate App Icon Change Does Not Reflect in Notification Center on iOS 18.1+
Version: iOS 18.1 and later (works as expected on iOS 18.0 and earlier) Area: SpringBoard / Notification Center / App Icon Rendering Description: When changing the app's alternate icon using UIApplication.setAlternateIconName(_:completionHandler:), the icon is updated correctly on the Home Screen and App Switcher. However, in Notification Center, the old app icon is still shown for notifications, even after the change has completed. This issue only occurs on iOS 18.1 and later. In iOS 18.0 and earlier, Notification Center correctly reflects the updated icon. - Steps to reproduce: Create an iOS app with alternate app icons configured in the Info.plist. Use UIApplication.shared.setAlternateIconName("IconName") to change the icon at runtime. Send a notification. Pull down Notification Center and observe the icon shown beside the notification. - Expected Behavior: Notification Center should reflect the updated (alternate) app icon immediately after the change. - Actual Behavior: Notification Center continues to display the old (primary) app icon. The new icon appears correctly on the Home Screen and App Switcher. Restarting the device does cause Notification Center to update and reflect the correct icon, which suggests a cache or refresh issue in SpringBoard or Notification Center. - Notes: Issue introduced in iOS 18.1; not present in 18.0. Reproduces on both physical devices and simulators. Occurs with both scheduled local notifications and remote notifications. Restarting the device updates the Notification Center icon, but this is not a viable user-facing workaround.

How to Retrieve Current Badge Count After applicationIconBadgeNumber Deprecation?
Hi Everyone, I noticed that applicationIconBadgeNumber has been deprecated in iOS17. While there's a new method to set the badge number using setBadgeCount(_:withCompletionHandler:), I couldn't find a way to retrieve the current value. Previously we used to call UIApplication.shared.applicationIconBadgeNumber, to get the current value, which is deprecated now. Does anyone know how to get the current badge count? Thanks!

Question About APNs Server Certificate Update and Firebase Cloud Messaging
Hi, Regarding the announcement about the Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) Server Certificate Update, I wanted to clarify whether it will impact my app’s push notification setup. I use Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to send push notifications to iOS devices, and in my Firebase project settings, I have configured an APNs Authentication Key under the Apple app configuration tab (Firebase Console > Project Settings > Cloud Messaging > iOS app configuration). The authentication key I am using was generated from Apple Developer > Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles > Keys. Since I am using this authentication method instead of APNs certificates, are there any changes I need to be aware of due to the APNs server certificate update, and do I need to update anything in my current configuration to ensure push notifications continue to work? Thanks in advance!

Not Receiving Incoming VoIP Push Notifications on iOS 18.4 (React Native App)
Hi Apple Dev Team, We have a React Native application that includes call functionality using PushKit and VoIP notifications. We are using APNS to send the VoIP notifications, and everything has been working smoothly on iOS versions up to 18.3.1. However, after updating to iOS 18.4, we are no longer receiving incoming VoIP push notifications on the device. There have been no code changes related to our PushKit or notification logic — the exact same build continues to work correctly on devices running iOS 18.3.1 and earlier. We're trying to understand if anything has changed in iOS 18.4 that affects VoIP push delivery or registration behavior. Would appreciate any guidance, and happy to share code snippets or configuration if needed. Thanks in advance!

Background Push Notifications for Emergency App Delayed Despite Critical Alert Entitlement
I’m using Appnotic from my server to send notifications for an emergency service, where it is critical that notifications are delivered immediately. My payload looks like this: "aps": { "alert": "Test alert", "sound": { "critical": 1, "name": "sound.wav", "volume": 0.5 }, "content-available": 1, "category": "alert" }, "topic": "com.fireservicerota.FSR-Primary-Alerting", "custom_payload": { "id": "11", "type": "alert", "incident_id": 23434, "incident_response_id": 2652343, "expiration_time": "2024-06-06T16:59:05+01:00" } } I already have the critical alert entitlement and background processing enabled. Everything seems fine when debugging, but I’m experiencing issues: • Some notifications never arrive • Around 60% of notifications arrive with noticeable delay Since this is an emergency app, delivery speed is crucial. What could be causing this inconsistency?

All Apple Push Notification Architecture
I've built an iOS & Watch OS app using Sign in with Apple & CloudKit exclusively. I'm now wanting to implement Push Notifications. I understand that I need a server to trigger the push notifications (I guess I could spool up a Node server somewhere or use Firebase), but I'd really like to not use any non-Apple backend services. Am I correct in understanding that I can do this with Push Notifications Console, or do I still need a separate backend?

Notifications not working
I’m receiving notifications from all third-party apps that I use however, most of the time there is no sound or haptics with the notification. In some cases, very seldomly I will receive a sound when a notification comes in, but that’s only with one of the many third-party apps that I use. I’ve spoken to Apple about this when this whole problem started during an update that you guys rolled out sometime between September and November 2024. They blamed it on the app programmers but I think at this point we all know that it’s Apple’s inability to accept that the problem is on their end. I never had problems receiving notifications from any of the apps prior to that. I guess my question is will Apple ever fix this or are they going to sweep it under the rug and pretend like it doesn’t exist?

Push Notifications and VOIP call not working.
My App supports two services that is Push Notification for Alerts and a Voip Call feature whose notification also comes in the same way as of PushNotification but video rendering is done with GoogleWebRTC. The App was working perfectly fine but from past few months these services are not working.[ Nothing is changed in App and on the server side to push the notifications] Issues: VoIP (Video call) not working: I have apns certificate which is valid in today's date and stays with the backend Server. My server sends the payload notification to APNS but on iPhone am unable to receive it. I have checked the App registration part also and is able to receive the token for the same. Framework used are: PushKit, UserNotifications, GoogleWebRTC . I don't understand where is the gap, the backend triggers the APNS but there no response. Ports enabled on server are: 443, 5223, 2197, 2195, 2196. Similarly Push notification were also not working, So I tried to change it to register on Firebase for device registration token And did some coding at backend to send the notification to that device. It was working perfectly fine from last few weeks, but it suddenly stopped. I checked the JSON Payload and tried to send it through PostMan, in both it says 200 Success. And in Application end am waiting for breakpoint to hit in userNotificationCenter(_: , willPresent, completionHandler). What all I have checked: 1)My server to APNS server connectivity. 2)Verified the apns certificate. The certificate was created in October 2024, whose expiry is in Nov 2025 and it support both Sandbox and Production environment. 3)Checked required delegates are implemented in App. With the capability enable in it, is also sending registration token to backend. Kindly guide me where I can check in this flow. Thanks in Advance!

Sending 'notification' risks causing data races
I'm attempting to leverage notifications in an app that is in Swift 6 language mode. I have the following code: func startLocationUpdates() { //if self.manager.authorizationStatus == .notDetermined { // self.manager.requestWhenInUseAuthorization() //} self.logger.info("Starting location updates") Task { do { let updates = CLLocationUpdate.liveUpdates() for try await update in updates { if !self.updatesStarted { break } // End location updates by breaking out of the loop. self.lastUpdate = update if let loc = update.location { self.lastLocation = loc self.isStationary = update.stationary self.count += 1 self.logger.info("Location \(self.count): \(self.lastLocation)") } if lastUpdate!.insufficientlyInUse { let notification = UNNotificationRequest(identifier: "com.example.mynotification", content: notificationContent, trigger: nil) try await UNUserNotificationCenter.current().add(notification) } } } catch { self.logger.error("Could not start location updates") } return } } As an aside, the above is directly taken from the following sample: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/CoreLocation/adopting-live-updates-in-core-location. With Swift 6 language mode enable, this generates a compiler error for the statement: try await UNUserNotificationCenter.current().add(notification) Sending main actor-isolated 'notification' to nonisolated instance method 'add' risks causing data races between nonisolated and main actor-isolated uses How can I fix this?

Delay in notifications iPhone 16 Pro iOS 18.3
Hi, I’m having issues with push notifications on my phone across multiple apps. When someone sends me a message, I only receive the notification 10 to 15 minutes later. For example, on WhatsApp, people say that my chat only shows one checkmark when they send me a message. I don’t know what else to do. I’ve already contacted Apple Support, visited an Apple-affiliated physical store, and followed all the recommended procedures. This is my first time using an iPhone—I bought it for professional use, but it’s practically useless if I don’t receive notifications instantly. They even told me that if I send it in for warranty service, there’s a 90% chance they won’t detect the issue, and the iPhone will come back with the same problem.

Push Notification Sound and Notification Service Extension When App is Killed
Dear Apple Developer Support, I am currently developing an iOS application that uses push notifications with custom .caf audio and a Notification Service Extension. I have implemented the extension to download and play a dynamic sound file from a remote sound_url. It works well when the app is in the foreground or background. However, when the app is force-closed (swiped up from multitasking), the Notification Service Extension does not seem to run. As a result, the custom sound is not downloaded or played. I would like to confirm: Is it possible to trigger the Notification Service Extension when the app is killed? If not, what is the correct way to play a custom .caf sound when the app is terminated? Should I preload and save the .caf file in App Group storage and reference it by name in the sound field? Are there any best practices or limitations regarding push notification customization when the app is killed? I appreciate your help in clarifying this issue. Thank you very much! Best regards, Phan Van Tung

Update Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) server certificate
Currently, our company server is using the push service by calling APNS through the p8 certificate. In this process, our server does not have a CA certificate or SSL certificate in use. Only the p8 certificate is installed and only performs the role of calling APNS. If it is used like this, is there no need to update the CA certificate separately? Or do I have to apply a new SSL certificate and add the CA to it? Can someone help me plz?
